  1. You know with the AR crazy being what it is I completly forgot about the Ak's. Your right, you can't go wrong with the Rem. 700 or the .308. And I have to say "YOU DOG". I want a Barrett. Shooting one has spoiled me, have wanted one ever since. The K98 Mauser is without a doubt the grandfather to all bolt guns. Not the first but the first great one. DJ
  2. hey, don't hate on a bolt gun...lol... I bet you are an AR guy??? Can't blame you I like an AR too but I love a bolt gun. I like Remington 700 but the Winchester model 70 that I built as a do all gun in 7mm WSM is my new fav.
  3. Yeah, I did that too. I ended up going to PSU. It's about the same thing as AIG. Doesn't cost as much though. They send you your test and give you access to all their vids and text. They also have a teacher that is asigned to you to help you with any questions you may have or problems you run into. Iike I said earlier going to school is hand down the best way to learn because of the hands on experience in the classroom. But this is a close second. And you still get the same gunsmithing cert. as you would if you were in the classroom. DJ
  4. Clayton86, you should check out PSU, AGI Gunsmithing video courses or one of the other online gunsmith training if you don't have time to go to school. I'm getting mine this way and it's something you can do in your spare time and at your on pace. Once completed you can work from home, open a shop, work for someone else, or just be able to keep your own guns in great shape. honestly, I think you get a quicker understanding in a classroom a more hands on enviorment. But if your like me a working to pay the bills and can't just tell the power company to stop sending for a few months so you can go to school, it's a good alternative. DJ Please look over the spelling

    28 Ga.

I have a Remington 1100 28ga. that I have had since I was 2. It was my first gun and now at the age of 30 my wife shots it alot but as far as a hunting gun I'll stick with my 12 ga.
  6. I'm working on becoming a gunsmith. The projects your talking about are fair easy to do just take your time and enjoy your guns when you have finished. Jeweling the bolt will make that gun look great. Good luck, would love to see some pic.s when your done. DJ
  7. I was unware that the steel weights were larger than the lead. I guess that answers that question. One would think that a stainless steel weight would be smaller/denser than lead. Thanks for in info. guys
  8. I've noticed that there are alot of post about lead or tung. weights but why not steel. I have seen them sell as cheap as lead at times. Why aren't they considered as a good option? I haven't used them but it seems to me that they are smaller in size than lead of the same weight and of course more dense. Isn't that the whole marketing bs behind the arguement that tung. is better than lead? My question is, is tung. better than steel? Just wanted to get your opinions on this matter. Seems to me that steel may be the best, most economic choice. DJ
  9. Wieghtless T-rig is my fav. way to rig a fluke, but you can also put a small bullet sinker(1/32-1/4 oz works great) on the line infront of it, or use a belly wieghted hook/Jighead.
  10. I'm also have trouble figuring out where the tube from the guage goes on the motor(1984 Johnson GT 150). This motor had a water pressure guage on the boat that it came off of and worked at one time, but I can't find where it was pluged into on the motor. It's not from the tell-tale and I can't see where it was T'ed into anywhere else. I'm confused. Where should I be looking or where should it be hooked up at on the motor? Help please, DJ
  11. I have just installed new guages on an boat that I bought. It's a 1988 Laser Bass Boat 3880 Flippin Deck. I have replaced the 175 Suzuki with my 1984 Johnson GT 150. Now I'm having trouble with wiring up the trim guage. I have it wired according to the instruction that came with the guage. I have the purple ignition wired to the I term. on the guage, the black wired to the G term, and the tan with white stripe wired to the S term. The tilt/trim from the control works the motor fine but it doesn't show on the guage. The guage reads all the way down all the time. The instructions that came with the guage sead to cross the G and S with a short wire to test the guage and I did this and the guage read all the way up. So the guage works, What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help. DJ
  12. Thanks alot for the info. Mine is the 3880 flippin. Thats part of the reason I bought this boat. It has alot of deck (front and rear) for an older boat but not alot of storage. Two really big rod boxes though. The boat has two built in battery boxes in the rear of the boat (one on each side) but nowhere to put a third. I want to put my 24v TM on it but not sure how to mount the third battery? Thanks again for thr great info. I want to learn as much as I can about this boat. DJ
  13. I just bought a 1988 19' Laser Bass Boat. I bought it as a project boat. It has a Suzuki 175 oil injected motor on it but it has a burned up piston. I'm not going to keep this motor on the boat. I'm going to put my Johnson GT 150 on it instead. Don't know enough about a Suzuki to try to work on it is my reasoning. I was hoping someone could give me some more info on the boat. It now has aluminium lids on the compartments. Not sure if came with them from the factory (most likely did giving Lasers racing history) Any info you may have on the boat or motor would be helpful. Thanks guys DJ
