Albright special for braid to leader, San Diego Jam for any mainline and/or leader to terminal, and milller knot for dropshot.
Thank tackletog for the albright and miller knots.
It may come as a surprise, but there are many "freshwater only" reels that can withstand salt-use taking into account a regular and thorough maintenance regimen. I find that almost all Shimano's are salt safe (including Aldebaran, Conquest 51, Curado 201E). Spool bearings may lose performance but again, with regular and complete maintenance it shouldn't be an issue... Daiwa reels on the other hand I would not risk unless explicitly stated as saltwater safe.
Though I don't have one myself, I throw a bunch of light stuff (1/5-1/8oz) with a bunch of different reels (Curado E, Citica E, Sol, Calcutta 101B, etc.) and in my opinion, the rod has a greater function on the ability to cast light stuff.
