  1. Looks like you had a great day, I have never fished the Potomac, but a planning a trip in the next two weeks or so. Does anyone have any generic advice to get me started? Where is a good place to launch out of, maybe an area with several options near by. Where have the fish been holding this time of year? I am coming from Richmond, VA. Just FYI I have very limited experience with tidal water. Thanks in advance. Joe
  2. We have that type of grass in some of the lakes around here, look for green grass with deeper water near by. Some of the best spots I have found are 4-6 feet deep with 8-10 deep creeks running close by. Get a 1 to 1.5 oz tungsten bullet weight, heavy braid or mono, 4/0 heavy wire hook and a beaver or craw lure. Pitch the the edges or any holes you see 10ft or so back from the edge. Bites will normally be right as the lure punches through the matt. Be ready and have fun
  3. So this time of year do you plow your way back through the mats into those creeks or just skip them all together? Joe
  4. I am new to fishing the Chichahominy, this is my first year, and I have fished the lake about ten times. I have had some ok catches, a couple of five pounders, but not much more. I have noticed that most guys seem to prefer fishing the river sections, what is the thinking behind that? Are those areas more predictable because of the tides, better structure, more fish? I am just wondering if I should continue to grind it out on the lake or venture down to the river. Any thoughts would be great. Joey
  5. Thanks so much for all the feedback Joe
  6. Thanks for the reply, I have tried the EWG hooks, they are the ones along with the Yoevella's that I keep bending open. Maybe it is because I use the 2/0 size anything bigger seems hard to rig. I feel like the hook is to big for the lure Joe
  7. Just wondering what you guys are using for your flipping hooks on smaller "beaver" lures and 4 inch craws. Everything I try either the lure slips down every flip ( we are flipping heavy grass) or I bend the hook open when I set the hook. I have seen the keepers people are making with shrink tubing, anyone have any tips or instructions for doing this? Thanks for the help Joe
