  1. I'm sure this question has been asked before, I didn't turn anything up on a search though. I really want to have a cranking set up this year but I don't really have any money to buy a new rod. Do you think I could make due with an ugly stick? The action seems pretty slow to me, but I've never used an actual cranking rod so I have nothing to compare it to.
  2. I'll move to Canada (completely serious)
  3. I took apart my reel today to lubricate it (first time I've ever taken apart a reel). When putting it back together, the side plate doesn't seat flush against the reel. There is a gap in the 6 oclock position. Everything is in the proper place as far as I can tell, anybody have any idea what the problem may be? I'll try and post pics soon.
  4. We had a fairly early winter in OH, I'm hoping we get an early spring. I plan on fishing pretty much every day from ice out until the end of the spawn.
  5. Double Uni-knot. If you're not familiar with the uni-knot... http://www.animatedknots.com/uniknot/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com
  6. Ever since I bought a baitcaster, the only thing I use my spinning gear for is anything too light to throw with my baitcaster. Realistically, you could fish effectively with a cane pole...so there's nothing wrong with using spinning gear if that's what you're comfortable with. That being said, I still think everybody should give baitcasting a try. Once you learn it, it's irreplaceable in my opinion.
  7. Very good interview. I propose the next video be a how-to on fishing over large wood piles
  8. I think he's pretty passionate about FireLine, but not without good reason. I've heard nothing but good things about it, I personally have only used PowerPro, but I have since strayed away from braid.
  9. Abu Garcia Silver Max baitcaster and a Pflueger President spinning. I was thinking about having someone do it but I would really prefer to try and learn on my own. There is a Gander Mountain where I live, I might see if someone there will show me how to do it. They're nice guys and I'm in there all the time. And thanks for the link tbird. That was pretty much what I was looking for.
  10. It's pretty much the end of the fishing season for me, and I would like to give my reels a good cleaning before I put them away for the winter. I have never taken apart a baitcaster and I'm a little hesitant about just jumping into it. I've searched up and down for videos with no luck. Can anyone refer me to a video, or an article that will help me out? I also don't have a schematic however I could probably find that online. What constitutes a good cleaning?
  11. I'm looking to upgrade my set up for next year, I mostly fish soft plastics and right now I'm using an Abu Garcia Silver Max and a Berkely Lightning Rod. I'm pretty decided on a Revo STX but I'm still undecided on the rod. My main question is what do you prefer as far as power goes for a jig/worm rod? It seems a lot of people use MH. I like to throw heavy jigs, but as far as plastics go I hardly use anything over 1/8 oz bullet weight and on a 6" worm I don't think that falls into the lower range of lure ratings on a MH.
  12. I always get it when I'm trying to dig out a buried hook of the small bulls, I really haven't gotten it that bad though. If I ever do I'll be sure to give this a try.
  13. I suddenly have the urge to go pike fishing
