  1. Not just for the consumers, our sponsors donated extra stuff so we could also hold a raffle. The BR crew, a very generous one,....raised almost $1000 for CAST For Kids!!!!!! You guys really blew me away with your kindness,....awesome. Thats pretty darn awesome. I love it when people do stuff like that for kids. Mucho kudos.
  2. Nice bunch of stuff right there. Gotta love when sponsors do that kind of thing for the consumers.
  3. In 20+ years of fishing I think I've had one rod break. I'm sure I beat the hell out of a few when I was a kid, other than that I can't really remember. Was fishing offshore in a large dolphin school and I grabbed a free rod, happened to be a very light tackle spinning rod. 15+ pound dolphin grabs it and spools the reel really quickly, rod bent just a wee bit too much and snapped. Needless to say I didn't land that fish. Like everybody else has said, if you take care of your equipment it'll take care of you. There are always those freak manufacturing defects though.
  4. Not a bad thing to see cruising around your backyard. Although this morning I did see a TON of small Largemouth cruising in schools around on one of the other lakes in my development. Small meaning probably around 10 inches or so, hopefully they grow into maturity soon.. ;D ;D
  5. You and me both, the Largemouth in my lake have stunk lately. Hopefully that'll improve before too much longer.
  6. I love this time of the year. A small cold front blew in a couple of days ago and the fish are active again right now. Especially the Peacocks. It's also nice when the kids are able to catch fish easily right now. Not all that bad for a pair of five year olds. I just realize how funny one of the kids looked with that loose tooth in the front. That thing is trying really hard to push out
  7. I second Sierra Trading post, I got a nice pair of Costa del mar's the one that came with interchangeable lenses (amber, grey, and yellow, all polarized) for about $62. I love em I've got a pair of Costa Del Mar glasses. Good stuff right there. The ones I have are somewhere down on the cheaper side of their line. My mother spent some ridiculous amount of cash for her Costas, but I can say that they are worth the money. Good glasses.
  8. Are those lucky craft lures really that great? I've heard a bunch of stuff about them, but I just haven't had the urge to go out and drop like 15 bucks on a lure yet. Thats a painful thing to lose if and when you do... If it catches me a ton of fish though, thats an entirely different story.
  9. Thanks for the welcomes you all. Great forum you have here. Lots of info.
  10. Gotta agree with that one. Worms are cheap enough to buy a few bags to experiment with until you find something you like. Unless you start experimenting with Senkos, they are really economical to play around with. Probably around 3 or 4 bucks a bag at most places.
  11. I love me some topwater fishing. Theres nothing cooler than watching a bass absolutely wreck a frog skipping across some weeds or a line of pads. It's d**n near as cool as when all of a sudden the frog gets vacuumed underwater with almost no splash. Good times. I actually just picked up a new pack of frogs earlier, go figure...
  12. Depends on the fishing I'm doing. If I'm messing around on the lake catching bass and whatnot, a pepsi and a smoke makes me a happy man. Toss in a few waters and I'm set. When I'm out offshore fishing I'll pound water or Gatorade down all day long. If I'm diving I'll usually open up a pepsi after getting back out of the water, it feels good on your lips after having the snorkle in for a while. And grapes. The regular junk food always finds it's way onto the boat as well though (chips/m&m's/etc etc).
  13. I've heard that there was a few fires in the area, none where I was though. I really didn't go all that far from the docks though. There was also a lot of commotion going on about the bald eagle nest thats in the general area. Lots of people stopping by talking about it. The ramps and docks were a lot more crowded for a weekday than normal. Mind you, it is spring break right now...
  14. Ended up picking up a nice new Revo S (thanks to those that recommened it) along with a Pro Qualifier. I couldn't resist getting the BPS reel when the woman at the counter rang it up an additional 15 bucks cheaper than it was marked at. Got it for 60 bucks (I had to wait a while for their computers to come back up). So far it seems extremely smooth. Only time will tell on that one. But I did manage to set myself a new PB on it earlier today, so I can't complain one bit about it.
  15. You ever have one of those days fishing where it seems like nothing is working? Well I certainly had one earlier today fishing out of Holiday Park in the Everglades. It seemed like nothing I was trying was working.. Cut to the end of the story after catching a couple of dinks...I decide to make one last cast on a small line of lilly pads about a mile away from the docks. Next thing I know I'm in a battle with a massive fish. A short time later I end up pulling in my first double digit bass ever. Whoot. 10.73 pounds of Largemouth fun. After celebrating for a moment I reach over to grab my camera only to realize that it had been left on all day and was sitting there with a dead battery. I knew I should have charged them up the night before. Oh well. I guess I can't complain, a new PB for me a few weeks after getting back into bass fishing. Now I just need to go lay into a Peacock thats in the double digit range. ;D
  16. I've got a stocked lake sitting behind my house. I used to tear it up, but I stopped fishing for several years due to my lack of time with the kids and whatnot, but now that they are a little older I find myself able to enjoy going out on my boat again and doing some early morning and afternoon fishing. What I'm looking for right now is a mid range baitcaster that I can pick up at my local BPS (I have two within easy driving range). I grabbed a Daiwa MF100TSH while I was there a couple of days ago picking up a few baits. I've come to discover after using it a bit that the "twitching bar" while an interesting feature, just seems like it gets in my way more often (that and I would rather twitch the rod tip instead). The 7.1 speed seems like it's a bit too fast for most of my applications anyways. Also some of the reviews on the reel seem to lean down to the negative side. I'm considering returning it and grabbing something that has better reviews. I was looking at the Daiwa Procaster PT100-6Bi as well as the BPS Pro Qualifier PQX10HD Any other reels that you guys could recommend would be great, along with any info on the Daiwa MF that I have right now (could save me a trip to the store). Thanks a lot. I would have added links to each reel, but it seems that I can't until I have a few more posts...
  17. Hey there, new to the forums and whatnot. Figured I'd post a message to say whats up to you all.
