  1. I use a 3/0 or a 4/0 gammy superline ewg on swimmin senkos. I fish them a bunch and have never had an issue using those hooks. Either those, or a 4/0 Owner XXX straight shank if thats what I've got tied on at the time. I just throw them on my normal t-rig rod. Crank them back, bounce them, twitch, etc etc. They're a really versatile bait. Gary Yamamoto recommends using a florida rig weight on them. I've done that and had succes, but I prefer to just use a pegged weight on mine.
  2. I'm primarily a plastics guy... 9:30/10:00 am till I leave around 1:00 pm or so: My most productive set of lures so far this year have been anything in the Rage Craw lineup (baby craw, craw, lobster). Toss it out with a pegged weight in almost any depth. I've really started to like a 1/2oz tungsten flippin weight pegged to the lobster and just drag it along the bottom. I've added into my arsenal the 7" Anaconda in blue fleck, which is producing really well also. I'm also very quickly getting addicted to jigs with a rage chunk on them. Haven't had the chance to get out early enough for a solid topwater bite. Xcalibur Xt3D jerkbaits are working really well for lakes that have peacocks. The Xr50 (I believe) in tilapia is fairing pretty well also. The only lipped crank I've had any success with this year is a Series 3 in Sexy Sunfish. No size, but plenty of smaller fish on it. I've also got a few 12"-14" worms for the larger bite. I've picked up a few really nice fish this year on a 14" worm poured by a local company. But this is Florida, monster worms are always good to use. I'm starting to use tubes more down here when I'm not in thick grass. Coffee tubes in Golden Shiner with an 1/8oz tube jig have done fairly well on both Peacocks and Largemouth.
  3. Way to go. Great fish. I really need to get out to tree tops one of these days. Wonder if I can take the Jon out there. I hit that big lake off of 172nd again today. 4 hours or so and about 35 fish in the boat. Ridiculously hot outside with no wind though. There are some seriously big fish in that lake. I saw several in the 7lb-8lb range cruising around.
  4. Ok then. Whats the review on the weights without inserts? Inquiring minds want to know.
  5. Nice bag right there. I'd pick one up if it wasn't in such a horrible color scheme.
  6. Man, I'd love to see something like this happen in south Florida. I've gotta start searching around to see if it already exists, or start doing a little researching myself.
  7. Was looking at them earlier. I'll probably grab some of them myself.
  8. I use a MH cheapo Daiwa rod that I got for like 8 bucks because it had a broken tip. BPS Pro Qualifier and 40lb braid. I've never had an issue pulling a fish out of the junk with it. It's cheap enough that I can beat the snot out of it and not really care, and I fish frogs a lot down here. My gear takes a beating.
  9. I've got one of the XPS Stalker Bags. Love mine. I had one of the extreme qualifier backpacks and wasn't really happy with it.
  10. Safest place to be with an AK-47 drawn on you is right in front of the sights. All joking aside, thats some crazy stuff. Now you need a high powered boat to get to fish quickly...and run from pirates. Stories like this are the primary reason why I invested in a good quality marine grade shotgun a few years ago.
  11. Definitely great to get out with the kids fishing. My daughters love it whenever we get out. Glad you guys are catching fish up there. It's becoming hard to find where the largemouth have disappeared to on my lake. Slim pickings right now. Peacocks are all over the place though.
  12. I've got some stuff from Dichoso before also. Great baits. Romeo is an outstanding guy to deal with. He did some custom pouring for me that came out fantastic.
  13. x2 You think the bait monkey is bad, try feeding Phillip Morris. It's my one nasty habit that I left over from my days in the Army. Granted, I smoke A LOT less than I used to, but it's still expensive as all hell.
  14. I use a 6'9" MH Xfast for my worms and jigs. 30 lb braid and a 6.4:1 ratio. I don't own any heavy rods because I rarely fish in grass that thick. If you do a bunch of flipping and pitching into heavier cover, you should be fine. Other than that, I couldn't tell you.
  15. I've been loving a Rage Lobster lately for pitchin and flippin. Gambler's Ugly Otter has produced a bunch of fish also.
  16. Stuck a couple more fish using a jig. So far using the jig only is very quickly building confidence in the lure for me. Really appreciate the advice you all have given. The fish I've caught on them definitely seem to be a better quality fish also. I'm on probably a 3 pound average with them so far, and that's something I'd never complain about when using a new lure.
  17. Way to go George. Great fish as always.
  18. The one on top looks like a Storm Kickin Shad. The second one, I have no idea.
  19. FWC introduced them down here in the early 80's.
  20. Yeah I got that in my email earlier. Going to sit down tonight after dinner and fill it out.
  21. I think with an extra 20 bucks you can pick up a Carbonlite at BPS. I've really enjoyed using mine. The Bionic Blade that Fishohio mentioned is also a decent rod.
  22. You don't really need that many tools. A decent circular saw and a jigsaw are about all you need. To put the carpet on a pneumatic upholstery stapler does make life easy, but it's not really necessary. It's a fairly easy process if you can follow a line with a saw. You just need to make sure you trace out a good template before you start cutting. I used some large brown paper that came on a roll for my template. Lay it down where you need it, and trace a rough outline with a sharpie. The wood and carpet are really the cheap part. How much would it cost to have somebody professionally do it, I couldn't tell you. I doubt it would be cheap down here though.
  23. So I decide to go out for a few minutes this afternoon just before our regular afternoon thunderstorms roll in. Tossing out a jig with a rage craw on it, and this bites.... Caught a couple others on the same lure before I called it quits after noticing how frayed my leader got. Had another one of similar size yesterday without a camera handy.
