  1. Only 1425 days until the next one starts in Brazil. Looking forward to it.
  2. Almost every saltwater angler I know uses a larger leader than mainline. Thats an extremely common thing, at least down here in south Florida and in the Bahamas.
  3. Read through this page. Great info on using a sonar. Don't mind the fact that it's showing a color unit. They all work basically the same way. http://fishinweb.com/messages/messages/13028/13028.html?1254779454 Remember, you won't always get a fish arch, even if it's a fish. They have to pass completely through the cone to get that "arch." Make sure you have the transducer angle correct wherever you mounted it. If it's not running level it can throw off the readings as well.
  4. I think the majority of my plastics are all Zoom. I've got an ever increasing supply of Rage Tails though. Throw in a several packs of Gambler baits and a few Yum branded plastics. It's hard to beat the price on Zoom baits.
  5. I mainly just cast and retrieve. If you like a steady retrieve try using the new style Flukes with the paddle tail. They seems to work well for that. For a steady retrieve, the Swimming Super Fluke on a weighted hook would be the better choice. The normal fluke, like mentioned, is a jerkbait. Just gently twitch it back to you. You can use them on a weighted hook as well, slowly work it back with twitches. It should dart all over the place.
  6. Simply an atrocious game. The goal by Iniesta was nice. I can't believe Robben didn't score on either of his chances. Spain deserved the win though. The Dutch were hammering them all day long. They should have been down to 10 men early in the game with that flying judoesque side kick. At least the third place game was worth watching.
  7. Lots and lots of prayer and elbow grease with some kind of super cleaner. Some of those foam automotive upholstery cleaners may help out if you let it soak in for a while. Whatever you use, may sure you spot test it in an inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn't change the color of the fabric.
  8. Definitely sounds like you spooled it wrong. Either use some mono backing on the spool, or use some arbor tape. A lot of the newer reels are coming braid ready with small rubber strips already on the spool. Do either of those and you'll solve the problem.
  9. Thats just part of fishing. I try hard to not beat up my gear, but it is going to happen eventually no matter what you do.
  10. That stinks. I've used Charlie's Worms for a long time. I think I still a single package of their paddletail shads here. Great baits.
  11. I've caught a couple of big rays before, that is one awesome fight. I've never hooked up with a large AJ before, the smaller ones that I've caught though have been fantastic fights. I think my favorite fighting fish is probably a large tuna, wahoo, or kingfish though. Just the sheer power and long runs they make is awesome. Make sure you've got some decent gear though or you may be buying a new reel after hauling in a decent fish. Big Dolphin can be fun too, but the fights don't last all that long unless you're using light tackle.
  12. Love my 6'9" MH x/fast Carbonlite. Ultra lightweight, very sensitive. Makes a fantastic worm and jig rod.
  13. Zoom swamp crawler in Green Weenie. Nose hooked with a drop shot hook. Without the drop shot weight. It barely sinks, work it in and around sparse surface vegetation. Doesn't target the big fish, but it can put a limit in the boat fairly quickly in the right areas. The only drawback is that you can't cast it super far because it's just ridiculously light. I've got fly's that weight more. Man I wish I could find those locally more often. Love that worm.
  14. It's real hard for me to go out now without some kind of wacky worm tied on if the bite gets really tough. In the summer when the fish are holding a little deeper (at least down here) on some of the ledges and drop offs in deeper water, I love to have a flick shake tied on. Allows you to get a wacky worm down quicker into the deeper water. For me at least, it can turn a bad day into a productive day fairly quickly. Theres just something about that worm wiggling like that in deeper water that fish can't resist. Going with your strengths is definitely some sound advice. If you're good with deep cranks and t-rigs, I would start with that for certain. When you find fish, saturate the area until you find what pattern the fish are really hitting on. Thankfully it doesn't take that long to change out lures and or rigs if you need to.
  15. I absolutely love night fishing. Like Shane said, the sound of a strike on a topwater at night is just unbelievable. Night fishing also forces you to develop you sense of feel with your rod. You can really learn how to use a worm or a jig if you fish them enough at night.
  16. Do a search here on BR on the 570. Myself and a few other people have had serious issues with that unit. I'd stay away from it.
  17. Tee hee. Man that looks nice. Riley's already working more magic. Bosh and LeBron come on sign and trades instead of outright contracts. Looks like Mike Miller is close to signing as well.
  18. I understand that they can be very good to eat. I've had it before in some of the small villages in the Bahamas. It's more of a pain in the butt in the fact that when I'm targeting other species, you either get broken off or your quarry gets chewed in half. Trust me, I don't mind the fight at all. But if I'm fishing for grouper, snapper, dolphin, etc et I'd rather catch them then deal with a big ole toothy critter that I don't intend on eating. Gotta love the cuda tubes though. I've still got a few sitting in my box for those days when you just want something to tug on the other end of the line. Great lure.
  19. Oooh, me three. Thanks, Sam.
  20. Great fish, Shane. Heck of a Cuda. For such a pain in the butt fish, they sure put up an awesome fight.
  21. I've got braid on all of my setup except my cranking rod. Fluoro leader on all of them. I'll go straight braid if I'm fishing at night for an extended period of time, in dirty water, or very heavy cover. Sure, the wind can make it a little aggravating at times, but it's nothing that I can't deal with.
  22. I've used and abused my PQ's. They get fished every single day. Rain or shine. I've never had a problem with one of them. General maintenance throughout the year and call it a day. Once a year I do a good solid cleaning and re-lubing to clean out all the accumulated gunk buildup. If I were to do anything to them, it may be to just swap out the knobs to eva foam ones if I can get some that fit on the cheap. They are by far the best reel you can buy for the money. On sale, it's a ridiculously good buy.
  23. Actually, he's making less than he would in New York. There, he would have had a max contract. In Miami, he won't. He's taking probably two million less than he would in New York, Chicago, etc etc. Yes, in Cleveland with the current CBA he would have banked quite a bit more.
  24. Is 3/8" the inside diameter? If so, that sounds kind of fat. And do you run the hook thru the heat shrink or under the heat shrink? Thanks. Through the heat shrink. I don't remember if it was ID or not though. Was from Home Depot. It's garbage heat shrink, but for worms it works just fin. Clear package with a red paper label stapled to the top of the bag.
  25. Wow, great fish right there. Bet that was a ridiculously fun strike to see happen on top.
