  1. Personal I would go to Ville Platte for Mardi Gras before New Orleans. Experience real Mardi Gras not a commercial version.
  2. Aluminum Jon either 12' x 42" or 12' x 48" Plastic boats are fine except they have no sides which I prefer with young kids or women. Sides keep kids contained & offers a sense of security for women.
  3. @senile1 imagine a 16' 52" aluminum boat pushed by a 40 hp coming straight at you! I WILL PUT IT ON THE BANK!
  4. @senile1 That's the deadliest down here in our marshes. To get around you have to run boat trails that are wide enough for one boat.
  5. To this dumb Coonass if ya wanna increase your skill level at catching bass of any size, learn your predominate prey species. Learn what they do morning, noon, & night. Winter, spring, summer, & fall.
  6. If you are looking at the Atchafalaya on Google Maps/Earth you will be misguided.by what you see. While the Basin is absolutely beautiful lots of it doesn't hold fish. In my opinion this is a body of water that requires an outboard motor to effectively fish it. If I were to fish the Basin out of a kayak, I would look at the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge areas.
  7. I've read surveys that suggest if given an equal opportunity & adequate number a bass will eat crawfish first. We have to keep in mind what is the predominate prey species is in your body of water. In some bodies of water this could be a single species or multiple species. Down on the Gulf Coast we fish a lot of brackish water & grass shrimp are a huge portion of a bass's diet. These shrimp are only an inch or an inch & half long but there's millions of em.
  8. How much bass relie on crawfish as a food source depends greatly on the body of water. Some bodies of water have a limited population while others hold vast amounts. Just a dumb Cajun's thought but I'm fairly certain the bass knows the predominate prey species in its body of water.
  9. It's not that crawfish lack the protein, they lack the size, or they are not available in a high enough concentrations. Big bass are controlled by certain environmental factors 1. Reproduce effectively 2. Feed efficiently (maximize food intake and minimize energy output) 3. Prosper during extreme seasonal changes 4. Achieve good growth rates by domination of the warmer areas of the lake during the colder seasons. This is a quote from Doug's book Big Bass Magic; I believe these to be rules that big bass must follow to survive

  11. The goal is to never have to go beyond "B" 😁
  12. Master of plan B 😉
  13. I keep telling y'all I keep a Texas Rig & a Jig-n-Craw tied on 24/7/365 & I throw em both. Right now it's pre-spawn, I'll work my way into a cove with a Texas Rig, work my way out with a Jig-n-Craw.
  14. Yes Sir Spent $80 Friday getting ready to go up Saturday, ended up with food poisoning instead!
  15. To add to the excitement I go food poisoning from a local restaurant! Talk about ruining a fishing trip 😒

  18. @Clinton john Hang around more often you'll avoid that problem
  19. "Best all around Texas Rig" consists of a bullet weight, hook, & a piece of plastic.
  20. @PlanoSooner P4s are legendary The entire Pantera series is, the Classic is probably the best entry level bass boat on the market.
  21. 74 & holding 😉 A friend of mine added a cleat in front of his throttle on the gunnel for this reason. He has a short rope with loops on both ends. I have a boat pedestal that's 3-4" taller than normal, its part of my tackle, & goes everywhere I go. I absolutely hate foot controlled trolling motors, mine is a Riptide hand control. Don't have to stand of one foot to fish. Most of my fishing clothes are either camo, browns, or greens. My kids said since I still bank fish they bought me reds, yellows, & other bright colors.
  22. So do I 😥 Between the wife & I we drank a gallon every 3 days. I might drink 1 or 2 soft drinks a month & maybe a 1/2 gallon of sweet tea a month.
  23. Y'all ready!!!!! 😉 Weather for Hemphill Texas
