  1. Why is it that a baseball game with a zero/zero score going into extra innings is a great feat but a soccer game at zero/zero is boring. The reason is that Americans understand the nuances of the game of baseball (or golf - the most boring sport of all). If you understand the game of soccer it is not boring. To the casual observer I can understand why it looks that way. Soccer: No timeouts, No helmets, No shoulder pads, No halftime shows. So if that is what you need, go play football you WUSS.
  2. I don't know were you heard that top water does not work in the rain. I throw top water in any weather but especially kill them in the rain.
  3. Zyla's in Merrimack on the Daniel Webster was a great place. Have not been in five years do not even know if it still exists.
  4. I agree with pithinKid. I love Lizards do not give up on them. Normally on hard lures if they are boiling on it and not grabbing it you fish it faster. Try that. I have fished a lot of lizards and never had them just roll on it. Bass hate lizards they usually crush them. I fish 6" on a 4/0 offset weightless.
  5. I actually fished with Scott for two days. He is a super nice guy and was a great guide. I enjoyed talking with him and he was very humble. He helped make the trip awesome. Lazy? You do not get that far being lazy. He got up early for us to get us out there. He put aside items at the store for us. Not lazy at all. I would have to say Roland Martin has had a way better career. Not sure there is even a comparison. If you watch Scotts show he plugs a lot of items so he is marketing things as much as anyone. The ethical lines are to blurry on this type of thing. If you really believe commercials that much that there can be an ethical question. You might want to know they all lie. Comparing it to crack?
  6. I fish from a canoe also. I do have a trolling motor now but paddled for years. An achor (a chunk of metal on a rope) is almost required when you do not have a trolling motor. Have you seen these handle extensions? http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0001127012535a.shtml My has an extender handle built in (not quite long enough though) I can stand in mine just fine. One leg in front of the seat and one behind so I can reach the motor.
  7. Are you sure they were smallies and not carp? Were they sitting on the bottom and facing upstream not moving. This would also explain the fact that they were not hitting conventional lures.
  8. Its a good lake. Seems I caught mostly LMB. Have not fished in in years. I would fish it if it was close to me.
  9. No real right answer here. Several problems that people mentioned I had originally also. It is a pain to load on a vehicle. I have a trac rac on my truck. Tell the people you want a front higher than the back to keep it off the cab. A trailer is a nice option also. As far as the front lifting up and balancing the weight. Turn the canoe around and sit in the front seat. It centers you in the boat better. Not an option if you have a transom model. I stand all the time in my 14' 42" beam canoe. It is pretty darn stable. They make a mount for the motor that goes gunnel to gunnel and get a motor with an extending handle to help the reach issue mentioned. Anchors - I use a chunk of steal (like an old window weight) if works well. Boat position is difficult with one anchor but position the boat were the wind puts the rest of the canoe were you want it. As mentioned many times it is a personal thing. I would love a bass boat but my canoe is 14 years old no maintance and I am on and off the lake quickly. I fish all small water so this works for me.
  10. I just sent you a PM. It is a small place I used to go to. It was close by a friends house and a decent place to spend a couple hours. Small pond, no big boats, some fish.
  11. Also from NH and I fish a shallow pond also. Here is what is working for me. Sitting near the bank and casting out into a drop off (only about two feet drop) that has some rock. Using a small tube (gizit) and work it real slow. When it comes through the rock pause it and wait for the strike.
  12. I actually was thinking the same thing today. I live in NH and I caught a bunch of fish already. None appeared to be egg ladden females. They look like males bass to me. If they were males this time of year the tails are usually wrecked from making the nest and these were not. I have not seen a single bed yet. I would say we are still prespawn.
  13. New Hampshire The Granite State State Motto: Live Free or Die Need I say more? Cast the deciding vote to ratify the constitution New Hampshire was the first to vote for the declaration of independence. Still first to vote in primaries. Citizens of New Hampshire have fought in every war including being at Lexington and Concord to begin the revolution. It is ranked number 1 livable state. No state income tax or sales tax. Buy liquor on Sundays with no bottle deposit or tax. Unrestrictive Gun laws One of the lowest crime rates in the country. Very diverse geography including the highest mountain in New England but still has 13 miles of beach. Highest wind velocity ever recorded at 231 miles an hour was on our Mt. Washington Some of our most famous people include Robert Frost, Franklin Pierce and Alan Sheppard (the first man in space). We have some of the best teams in the nation (at least right now). The Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins and yes the Revolution. The downside is long winter. This means smaller fish and less time to do it in. No it does not suck
  14. One trick that is pretty handy. Several people mentioned weight up front. The best thing to do is to sit in the front seat facing the middle of the canoe (basically go backwards). This balances it better.
  15. I fish from a canoe a lot. The advantage is it is easy to get in the water and can go anywere. Mine is wide beam so I can stand up and it is pretty stable. It would be hard to convince me that getting a crawdad into the water is easier than a canoe (I have a few years on me also and have fished out of both). Not sure either has a big water advantage. Not sure I would like to fish all day out of a kayak. The wind is a disadvantage for sure in any small boat. If you have a small budget a canoe is a good way to go. My opinion is to get the lightest one you can afford. Mine is a fiberglass 14' with a 43" beam. Problem is it is heavy.
  16. I am thinking of a spring trip some where south to warm up. Possibly Virginia. Any with ideas on a lake with access and a good time as far as the bite picking up?
  17. Tape a cigarette (or something) to a long branch. Melt the line so it falls in the water. Swim out and grab it.
  18. When you take the user input just use toLower or conversly toUpper and change them all to the same case before doing any compares. There is a lot to it. If you try to do a complicated program for your first program it can be overwhelming. Take small steps. Bite off a bit at a time. Really, there are many ways to do this and I do not want to send you down the wrong path without knowing a lot more of what your doing. Try this site http://cplus.about.com/od/learning1/a/cpptutorial.htm Grab a book that has the basics. Like the one written by Deitel. Draw a flow chart of your program and then wite each blob.
  19. You cannot use a String data type in a switch statement. So your right there. There are what is called enumerators. Not sure exactly what your try to do. If your trying to get a string for the state name and then putting that into your class then use an enumerator. Are you trying to find the correct object to put some data in then maybe a linked list. Overall do some googling. There is a ton of stuff out there.
  20. I have done it twice. Cannot say it was the best experience. I would get a guide on a less commercial lake. The price for Disney is most definately higher by a lot. The guides were OK nothing special. Good trip for average week end or less angler but not a serious guided trip. IMHO
  21. LBH, Agreed, I hate reading articles that mention Shad movement this time of year. No such for us here in N.E. I have seen some balls of baitfish but they have not resulted in a pattern. I have had the opposite experience this fall with regard to bait types and retrieve speed. I have caught very well on spinner baits and top water. Burn those spinner baits to make a wake and quick retrieve on the top water especially if they are short hitting it. Catching real well around humps with dying weeds. The deeper the water around the humps the bigger the fish have been. With regards to the rocks - True very true. Expecially the bucket mouths.
  22. If your looking for a spot to fish in Nashua I would suggest the pond off Amherst St. If you go down Amherst st. from exit 8 towards Milford and turn right on Continental blvd. Then a quick left on Naticook rd. Bear right toward the end onto camp seargent rd. and then look for the state park on the left (or local park - I do not remember the name). Stay right in side the park and there is a launch there. Good little pond. I have done well there when I worked in Nashua.
  23. Walkingboss, I have fished Kingston and Wini, I have not fished Canobie Kingston does have smallies. If I were practicing for Wini I would try Bow Lake. That is more comparable to Wini then Kingston. Last Bow lake report was not good still lots of ice.
  24. They can exist in small ponds. Not sure how they originally got there but I have a small pond near my house 4-5 acres and it has smallmouth in it. Yes, I do know what smallmouth look like and I am not mistaken them for some other fish. The pond is small but gets 25-30 ft deep in the middle. The only spot I can catch them is off one specific point that goes into or near that deep spot. I have fished this pond for 20 years and caught maybe 10 smallies or one smallie ten times. So yes it could happen. Probably not very likely but possible.
  25. I also agree with RW about the structure instead of cover and with his lure choice. Find a good sized rock surrounded by some softball sized rocks and you will find a smallie in the area. Marty mentioned top waters. If there is a chop on the water or it is raining most definitely throw a spook or a spittin image. My only addition would be a spinnerbait. I am from New Hampshire and I kill the smallies on a spinnerbait. White if the water is gin clear, Gold if it has a little color and chartreuse (better yet a perch color) if it is stained. I do not find a lot of folks on this site that are spinnerbait fisherman I swear by them. Personally, give me a gold spinner bait that when you throw it sounds like a wind chime and has blades the size of hubcaps.
