  1. Jigfishn10, will do, I'm working also, but I'm spoiled at home. Have 3 well stocked ponds around my house with-in walking distance. One of my fishing buddies says it's like having my own personal aquarium. Other than the occasional kid, no pressure except me usually fishing these waters.
  2. Thanks all for the information. Makes a lot of sense. Will be wading out into the brush this afternoon. We have another front moving through tonight, so right when the pressure drops should have some fun, hopefully hoisting a pig out of the water. Hope to post a pick of my catch tonight. Thanks again for the good advice.
  3. For the more experienced is it worth your time to fish when the water is up? My main source is a pond, but I do make it to two separate rivers and right now all of them are extremely high. I usually fish from the bank. I want to know is it worth my time or do the fish go deep? I'm guessing they feed on new exposed food sources and would not be as interested in what I have to offer. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Thanks, I really like the freedom of walking out the back door to fish. I realize I'm spoiled, but then again I can't complain.
  5. Thanks very much. Really enjoying the fishing this year, wife is not so crazy about how much I like to fish. Oh, well.
  6. Thanks,I got back into fishing after 20+ years away. Moved to a subdivision with very large retention ponds, healthy environment, and very little pressure from fishing. Makes it nice to walk out the back door and catch fish of this quality from shore.
  7. Caught two nice ones today, about 53 degrees, barometric pressure was abot 30.12, caught the first one on an unknown manufacturer funky creature about 4 inchs long on a jig with 8lb test, 5.15lb, 23 inches long. Second fish was caught with a yum wooly worm, watermellon green, 6lb test 2.12lb 17 inches long. Man if feels good to catch some bass. These early bass are not putting up much of a fight, but still fun. No photo of the second fish, trouble with the upload.
  8. Land Surveyor, I'm not from there but did get some specialized training in plant identification through a group in the School of Pharmacy. Fell in love with the area, want to go back in the worst way.
  9. Thanks, I'm thinking it might be my largest of the year also. But that won't stop me for sure.
  10. Stained water, use the color plastic that closely resembles the stain. Try a variety of shapes, bouncing on the bottom, along the points, the bass are moving up to the shore here. hope this helps.
  11. What are you fishing for , bank or boat, plastics slow on the bottom have worked for me, Im in SW OH. Location wold help along with what your target fish/fishes.
  12. Yes it was! Thanks. Missed a few last week, redemption was sweet.
  13. First LMB of the year. Caught in SW Ohio, private retention pond, 4+ lbs, on a Yum wooly worm, green, 8lb test.
  14. I have not really fished since just before Thanksgiving. But I would think unless the air temp warmed up the fish will stay deep. As for where I fish, your correct it is the retention ponds in and around my neighborhood. I can say that I've seen plenty of people fishing around the Mulhouser (SP?) barn. But again, very little activity due to the depth the fish.
  15. Very nice. Sounds like the perfect day.
  16. Yes sir, I really did not think there were fish that size, I was a wee bit nervous but it was very exciting. I wish I could say that it happens all the time, but I like the challenge of trying to bring in a fish on lighter weight tackle.
  17. Sorry, forgot the details. Yum Wooly Beaver tail, watermelon on a 1/16 ox jig, 6lb test. It was a hoot!
  18. Personal Best today in a retention pond around my neighborhood. 5 lb large mouth. That was an absolute rush. No jumping like the little ones, pulled straight down, he was a pig!
  19. Size of your hand unless it is petite. Cooked anyway is great but hard to beat what was already posted.
  20. The pond I fish in has been great. The bait fish have moved up and the bass followed. Caught 15 in about 5 hours of fishing over the last 3 days, all between 1 to 2.2 lbs. Catching everything on a Yum 3 inch wooly beaver tail in watermelon. Trying larger lures to catch the bigger fish, any ideas?
  21. Sweet fish.
  22. I think I want to cry every time I see the photo's of Dwight's smallie's.
  23. That is one nice Jack. Beauty Sir Snookalot.
  24. Another option is Acadia sports. I for one can not afford the top end rods and tried this company and was pleased with the product. I know they are not as popular but as mentioned by sirsnookalot above there are alternatives that can be quite good. Check their selection, you might like what you see. http://www.acadiasports.com/rods.asp?ru=0&v=&tdt=&ssid=
  25. Thanks, did the google thing and came up with a couple of ideas. Thanks again.
