  1. I would love to see the review on it...banging my head on a new rod right now when I get home in a couple of days (have a new GLX to try out myself and right a quick review).
  2. Yeah, you're right, crankbait rod (or any reaction strike bait) was a bad :-[ comparison. But if you're throwing a plastic and wanting to feel that such suttle bite...would it make "that much of a difference"? IMP, I buy a rod on how it handles the fish more than the sensitivity of it.
  3. :-?...This is a spin off from the thread of GLoomis to stop selling their blanks. I was reading the article on Tackle Tour (also was reading the thread on Berkley Amp Rods) and there was a post on tackletog.com that raised this question...Is a more sensitive rod really necessary? The person quoted that they believe sensitivity is overrated. They were saying (for example) that they would get more bang for buck with "say" Diawa Steeze rods, not as sensitive as GLX but that not so much as it would matter. So why spend $400 for a GLX blank for a crank bait rod then "say" spend $60 for a Berkley Lighting Shock Rod? I love my Loomis rods but I'm starting to re-think this whole "sensitivity" thing again :-/
  4. Here is a thought on this...as the line lays (either spinning or casting) on the guides, it's the vibration of the line that rests on the guides that is transmitted to the rod blank. So let's look at it like this now...Sensitivity of the rod isn't based on "how fast" you feel it but "how strong" you feel it. Any rod that is longer than another would have more guides on it which is more contact on the rod blank making the blank vibrate stronger. No matter if the rod is 4.5' or 10', if you're running your crank bait at 17' in the water the same type of hit will still reach the tip (first guide) at the same time because the length from the first guide to your bait is the same distance. Here is an easy experiment to do. Go to a tackle shop with a buddy with 4 pieces of line (either fluro, braid, mono, guts from 5-50 cord). Keeping 2 around 8" inches and 2 around say 8'. Now take 2 rods of different lengths but the same model with the same action and power. Tie the end of the 8" line to the first guide and have your buddy thumb it. Which one did you feel the thumb with the most? Now take the 8' of line and tie it to the last guide and run it thru as if it was rigged and do the same thing and see what you come up with. You could even add some small weight to keep the line tight.
  5. WOW, I thought I was the only one from the Watertown area...what else do you have?
  6. True that it did...maybe there should be a pole for the brand of reel that everyone uses :-?
  7. 6 Spinning (4xQuanutm, 1xDiawa, 1xOkuma) 3 BC (well, 2 since my shimano it NMC, 2xQuantum) Plan on 2 more BC (Quantum) and 1 more Spinning (free Quantum with purchase of Cajun Line) when I get home in May. Spinning is mostly ultralight for finesse fishing (with two Heavy Action for Salmon, Lake Trout, Catfish) Lot of people stating how many they have of what type but not what brand, just curious. :-?
  8. Those are some d@*n good customs jobs OSB, that red with gold frame takes the cake (IMO). You got me sold on the 10BB upgrade
  9. Fear no Fish ....G Loomis hands down, can't beat their warranties ;D

  14. Welcome aboard Bass...Magician, there's a wealth of knowledge on here, just type what you want to know about in the search and I'm sure you'll find it.
  15. Welcome to BR.... ....another Central/Upstate New Yorker....need to all get together one day and do some fishing.
  16. I've always had good results w/ Pop-Rs (any color close to bait fish in the area). Have this one white frog (I think it's by Rebel, given to me some years ago) caught a variety of fish on but my all time favorite has to be 152nd StreetBaits "Toadster" (hand poured plastic) in either green flash w/ red flakes or watermelon w/ red flakes.
  17. I heard Mexico has some Big Bass wait a minute, that's not a state :-/ what about Alaska , nope, no Bass at all :-[...j/k...I would love to be back in Florida...on the gulf side, great fresh and inshore fishing...but might change my mind once I move to San Antonio, with Corpus Cristi an hour and a half away ;D edit...I'm no longer a newbie
  18. Yeah, it tells me something too AJR...you can use braid for almost anything. Fish a spinner, crank a crankbait, pitch a senko, toss a frog, skip a craw...tow your car to the shop...anything .
  19. OH, that's right, I read it here...but do you think it's more of how you work the bait than what it's tied too I remember using a wacky rig in Lake Annacoco in LA and my partner and I got close to 30 LM that day, and I was using all braid. I think.
  20. ok, we have all this talk about using flouro leaders w/ braid...now I can't remember if it's this thread or another one but I read that somebody (I think) was jigging and decided to use two setups. One all braid and the other with a flouro leader. He stated that he caught just as many on braid w/o leader than with leader. So that raises a question. Is a(any) fish really paying attention to your line or just eyening the (if presented right)? Just a thought.
  21. Fishin' with ugly women is never fun ...
  22. Well now, Who here thinks Raul sacrifices performance for style or visa versa? ;D ;D ;D Now with his comment, I think it's the latter....
  23. WOW...polls still open. I personally like spiderwire over power pro (only 2 I've ever used). I want to give Momoi Diamond Braid a try (yeah, it's offshore, but hey, you never no) :-?
