  1. Just caught a pile of crappie last couple weeks. Just wondering if you all had a good crappie recipe to share.
  2. Thanks a lot for all your information. The problem i have with them is storing them over the winter months. Ive just started using jigs on a regular basis. Still havent had much success with them. Thanks to everyone for their help.
  3. Cool.......thanks a lot!!!
  4. Hello everyone..... Since you all helped me on the tube question I have another one for yall How do you keep the skirts on spinnerbaits and jigs? It seems like after several uses or over the winter, the rubber bands dry rot and I try to fix them up and it doesn't seem to work right. Is there any special heavy duty bands to use or do you think I could use like small zip ties or something?? Seems to always happen on spinner baits and the jigs. Thanks to everyone in advance.
  5. thanks a lot everyone......Was planning on going out today but mother nature had other plans.......don't mind the rain but when the lightning is coming straight to the ground things get a little crazy..... fishing tomorrow at Raystown now instead of today! Be safe everyone
  6. They were definetly largemouth. I have always used the 4" YUM tubes and really didn't have much of a problem. I had ordered a bunch of tubes off of ebay that said they were 4" and ended up being 3". There were some good colors which is why I kept them and tried them. Maybe I will just use them when fishing in open water with a jig head. I just don't want this pattern to continue into tournament season.....although the spawn is completely over before bass season comes in here in PA. Thanks for your help everyone.
  7. Hello everyone. Just the last couple days I have run into a problem and I don't know if it is just the fish biting lightly or if I am doing something wrong. I was using a 3" tube texas rigged with a 1/16oz bullet sinker and a 3/0 gammy ewg hook. It seems with when I use the 4 inch tubes I can get good hook sets with the 3/0 hook but when I downsized to the 3in tube I wasn't getting good hook sets. I either hammered the hook home or missed them all together. Had 3 large mouths to the boat when the spit the hook. When I would look at my bait, the tube (which was skin hooked to be weedless) the hook wouldn't even be exposed. Was thinking they maybe just grabbed the tail of the bait but thought it may be a hook problem. I changed hooks and also sharpened them to make sure that wasnt the problem. Has anyone had the same problem or possibly a solution for this?
  8. Hey, I just heard from one of my fishing buddies that Raystown was pretty active this weekend. Said the fish were still pretty deep.
  9. I know that fish commission "carp nazi" was very rude. I really try to treat everyone like that with respect. I'm a police officer and know what it's like to be treated like crap on a regular basis. First off when he motored up to my boat, he nearly knocked my front fishfinder off. He slammed into my boat really hard. Then he just was so disrespectful.......After he cited me, I saw two boats doing donuts around each other, a guy drinking a can of coors light when I drove by him, and two boats go under a bridge at full speed that was marked "no wake." I really think that they should be focusing on the weekend boaters that are going to hurt someone and not a local angler that spends most of their time going 3mph with trolling motor...... Oh well I am refusing to buy a new extinguisher so this may be a very expensive year fishing.......he told me as we were leaving....." I better not see you out here again with that extinguisher or there will be problems." I just shook my head and pulled away! Anyone ever have problems like that?
  10. Maybe I can just get myself one of those "Ultimate Net Men" Oh yeah, that's another thing......If I hooked a fish he wouldn't even get out of his seat to net the fish for me. If I wanted the fish netted I had to work the fish around to him.........Guess you are all right that I am better off. Just hope I can catch a couple to just prove that he didn't "put me on the fish" like he had said so many times......... Stand by for any updates....first tournament is June 20 or 27 I believe!
  11. The kicker in the whole deal is that I could have had someone join up to fish with me but the cut off date is 2nd saturday in April......he didn't even have guts to tell me before that!! Oh well......Ill just be asking you all some tips and tactics prior to the tournaments!!!
  12. Hey Mike, how did you do at Raystown? How was the water temp??? Glendale was up to about anywhere from 49 to 56 degrees.....really windy but did well on the bass and crappie.
  13. Well I would give the new guy a warning but he would tell my old partner right in front of me that my partner should leave me and start fishing with him. The new guy said he could outfish me anyday although he never weighed in a single fish during the tournaments. Oh well, I will fish by myself and hopefully out do them at least once..... guess we will see what happens!!!
  14. Thanks J, I understand what you are saying.....just kinda makes you feel worthless when you are dumped like that. I guess it would be cool if I won a couple tournaments. His new partner only actually finished 4 tournaments last year. He was always the first boat in to the launch at least an hour before tournament end or left a note with the tournament director saying he had to go home for one reason or another.
  15. Well, just found out today from another person that my club partner, whom i've fished with for the past two years, agreed to fish with someone else and has yet to tell me. Anyone ever have this happen? What is the main reason? We would use his Nitro on the bigger unlimited hp lakes and use my 17ft procraft on the limited hp and electric only lakes. I would pay his entrance fee and give him at least $25 gas money for the tournaments when he would drive. I used my boat for probably 8 tournaments the past 2 years and he didn't even buy me a soda let alone an entrance fee. My previous partners and I would split the winnings 50/50. This partner told me 2 years ago that he didn't want to do that. Since then I've won three tournaments and placed 2nd place in 3 others. I would start catching fish and he would block me out by pointing the front of the boat toward the shore and always get the first cast into EVERY spot. Sorry guys and gals......just wanted to vent a little.
  16. Well, I hope this past weekend is a preview to my fishing success this tournament season at Prince Gallitzin State Park in Central, PA. Started out fishing for 3 hours friday night and caught three keeper LM mostly on 4" YUM tube (smoke/red flake) and a suspending jerk bait. Went out on the boat Saturday with a friend to target some crappie. We found the crappie but also caught several keeper bass in the rocks on a 1/16oz red and white shad dart. Fished for approximately 9 hours and caught close to 70 fish. Went back out Monday and fished from shore for more crappie. Caught close to 100 crappie but only a couple were in the 10in range. Caught one that was probably close to 15 inches which is excellent for my area. Has anyone ever used a 1/16 oz shad dart for bass?? Seemed to be productive but not sure if it is just because of the time of year. Sorry, no pictures at this time because my partner's cell phone died and I forgot mine in my truck. Oh yea.......and I got stopped by the fish commission because my stickers showed expired march 31, 2009. I showed him the paper saying I renewed them online. He then cited me for not having a coast guard approved fire extinguisher.....(that I bought at a local boat shop not 6 days prior) The trip was definetely worth the $20 fine!
  17. Hey Robby, do you go to Penn State Main Campus or you go somewhere out east? I fish at Raystown, Glendale, and Howard. Where do you fish when you are at school??
  18. I've looked all over my local wal-mart and other "tackle" stores....can't find the JJ's anywhere......Closest BPS is like 100 miles away. Can it be purchased online?
  19. Has anyone used the orange spike-it on the pinchers of craws? Or on brush hogs or tubes or anything? Have they increased you fish catch ratio?
  20. I actually don't think that brand I bought was the "spike-it" brand. it was definetly a different name but can't think of it. Any suggestions on the best kind to buy?
  21. Has anyone experimented with the new "spike-it" paints or markers? For years I have been using a permanent marker to put black dots "eyes" on crank baits or put a second dot on them. I recently bought some orange spike it paint for soft plastics.....I thought orange would maybe look like a crawfish pinchers or something. Anyone have luck or do you think I should save my money buying other colors??
  22. Hello all, Just wondering. Do you all have your trolling motor and fish finders hooked up to the same battery? I wired two new fish finders onto my boat and now it seems like ever time i run the trolling motor I get interference on my fish finders. I put a second battery on the boat and it seemed to correct the problem but I don't like the extra weight. Do you think I could wire one for the cranking battery and put the trolling motor on the same one? Any suggestions.....hope I didn't confuse anyone!!
  23. I have a set from my old boat....think i will experiment before operating on the new ones.
  24. Hello all, I guess this is along the same question.....I had a butt seat/leaning post, whatever yall call them on the front of my boat. The post, I guess is 3-3.5 foot tall and it is just a little too tall. Im I able to cut them down a few inches and put the insert back inside??
  25. Anyone been out on Raystown lately? Last I was there was on day after St. Patrick's Day. Water was 44.2 degrees....very nice day but no fish. Fished for 7.5 to 8 hrs. Any updates let me know..... How bout Glendale?
