  1. Gander Mountain has President's for $59 and get a $10 rebate. $49. a great deal and the Supreme MGX for $99. with a $20 rebate and a $10 gift card. net $69. I just bought another one.. lol..
  2. "all the input"...is about 95% Pflueger...and I agree 100%. I own 2 Presidents, 3 Supremes and 1 Shimano Symetre and would recommend the Pflueger everyday of the week.. the President is an awesome reel for $59 and will last years and years... at least mine have..
  3. so... I was doing some spring cleaning...and ran across a couple Cotton Cordell wiggle O's. I don't think I 've ever used them they look very similar to the Wiggle Wart. anyone have any experience with these?
  4. I like tufline supercast. It works perfect for spinning reels. it is a coated braid.super smooth It casts a mile.
  5. I'm a day late....and more than a dollar short... BUT Happy (belated) Birthday Gary....
  6. Avid would be a good choice. But for the money I bought the Fenwick Aetos and couldn't be happier
  7. Fenwick HMG... in your price range and a full cork handle (which I prefer also) that is a great rod for the money.
  8. Fenwick is hard to beat.....a lot of rod for the price.
  9. 3/0 1/8oz if you are going to use a weighted hook BUT I agree with DVT on the straight ball head jig. 1/8oz. Rhino turned me on to these on last year's Roadtrip.....he was tearing them up. I soon followed his lead and we did so well we had to place an order with TW and have more delivered to our cabin.. lol..
  10. well... you are going to get all kinds of suggestions...and they will all be good.. in the $80 range... and since it sounds like you are close to a BP. I would consider these.. BP Extreme I own one and I like it. BP Johnny Morris carbonlite they have a good following here Abu Garcia Vendetta.. for $20 more you can get Abu Garcia Veritas. I own one and like it Shimano Compre I also own one of these and like it.. Fenwick HMG. a great rod for the money. I have their Aetos and it is an outstanding rod Duckett Ghost rod there are many, many more but I would not buy anything that you can't hold and check out that it why I limited my suggestions to what BP carries
  11. I have a BP Pro Qualifier low gear ratio paired with a 7ft MH Crankin Stick for deep cranks. I like it and it does well. what do you plan on your son using it for? just cranks or as an all around rod? I would not recommend a crankin stick for general/all around use. there are much better options for an all purpose rod.. imo
  12. just a heads up...for us spinning reel guys.. Gander Mountain has a $30 rebate on the Supreme MGX AND a $15 egift card plus free shipping since it is over $50... just thought I'd let everyone know.
  13. I only use the live magic shad also.. on a: scrounger head (my no. 1 choice) weighted swim bait hook chatterbait trailer buzzbait trailer A-rig I like the 3.5" for size of my baitfish
  14. I like what others have suggested.... one that hasn't been.. a hair jig (in particular, bear hair) with a pork trailer. a great bait for me under those conditions. I picked up some bear hair jigs last year and had a lot of success in my 1st tourney...water in the temps that you have now. not as deep ...but all mine were caught in at least 8-10ft of off-color/stained water. the bear hair "breathe" and the pork stays pliable, get some scent (jj's) to help also. good luck.
  15. hey mike...... (I may be down that way in mid-April) sounds like kinda half and half. I typically have used a fluke type. but just had wondered if a paddle tail would be good or bad. if it would inhibit the action on the blade like it kinda works negatively on a scrounger hea. I have also used a SK rodent rigged horizontal. a perfect baitfish imitator.. imo and use that on a scrounger head too..
  16. what type of Chatterbait trailer do you prefer? one with a paddle tail? Or just a regular fluke type?
  17. Yes, I use the improved clinch with every type of line with no problems. Yada yada yada
  18. Hey Joe I'm still interested and would definitely be glad to meet up with you somewhere this summer. And happy to split all the costs. Let's stay in touch. Jon
  19. lc pointer hair jig flat sided crankbait lipless crank fluke
  20. Because it's nice to be able to choose between braid and another line depending on how and where I'm fishing that day and only have to switch out spools. Makes it very easy and saves line
  21. Thanks. I have two of The Supremes. And really like them both. They both came with an extra spool and it looks like this one does not. But the MGX does come with an extra spool. I wonder if the ones that I have for the two Supremes that I have would fit the new supreme?
  22. yes, spinning reel. The "new" Supreme, and the MGX. both are $99. I am trying to decide between the 2 and can't see a difference.
  23. What is the difference between the two? Thanks
  24. I own 2 Presidents and 2 Supremes. Both are excellent and never had a problem with either. I would highly recommend either one. I started with the Presidents and was so happy with them....I "stepped" up to the Supremes and am very happy. There are slight differences as previously mentioned. I am just waiting for a TW sale to buy another Supreme since I just bought myself a TW gift card at 10% off...lol.. you can't/won't be disappointed with either one.
