  1. i have had really good luck in clear water with Yamamoto 4" senko in color 196. pumpkin blk/grn flake hooked wacky style. good luck...
  2. are both of these pretty much the same or are there differences that i would need both (bait monkey) pro's and con's of each... thanks.. and i already have a rapala DT3 and a manns baby minus 1 obviously lookin for the 1-3 ft depth. keeping cost in the $5-$7 range
  3. a comical story.... to me anyways.. 8-) took my son fishin' for the first time 3 years ago... we had went to Dick's to get some tackle. he picked out Yamamoto pumpkin/blk/grn flake senkos cause they looked "cool" i let him rig his own set up and didn't pay attention to what he was doin'. about his 3rd cast he hooked a 3lb bass!! i helped him land it and get it off the hook. we released it, (he wasn't thrilled about that.)ha! then i watched him rehook the senko. he put the hook right through the middle. i laughed and said "what are you doin?' he said that was how he did it before. i laughed and said i'll try it too. we caught over 15 bass that day. and then i hear all about the wacky rig craze. not to mention the Yamamoto senko i had never heard of!! all from an 8yr old i still smile when i think of that...
  4. Okay, I'm going to try to explain this again because it seems like some people don't understand my point. I am not saying that cheap baits don't catch fish, I am not even saying that cheap baits don't catch a lot of fish. I'm also not telling anybody to spend beyond their budget. I am simply making the observation that some people spend $100 dollars on 20 lures in a 20 different colors, 15 of which will probably never see the water and they think they are saving money by buying cheaper lures. I'm am saying that it might be wiser to spend $100 on 6 or 7 lures in productive colors that you know you will actually use. I'm not telling anybody how to spend their money because its not my place and frankly I could care less what people do with their money. I am simply making an observation based on my experience with the people that I have met and fished with. Take it or leave it. I'm not trying to step on anybodies toes. Bass-Brat summed it up best, buy what works. aren't we really talking about the infamous BAIT MONKEY we all get caught up in it in some form...whether it is the high end or the budget fisherman. i see your point. i tend to buy the "cheap" hardbaits rather than the LC (ok, never bought an LC) but i find myself going 3 or 4 times. and seein' what's on "sale". i would be afraid to use the LC cause i wouldn't want to lose it. but also since the 'ol BAIT MONKEY bites so often, even if i bought the LC's i'm not sure i could keep from buying other "stuff" :-/
  5. so..... Sirsnookalot.... I have an unlimited budget do you take that "girl" as your fishin' buddy with you often?? 8-)
  6. to reduce space, i take a few out of the original bag and place in zip-lock bags. i add a small amount of megastrike in the zip-lock, move them around to coat them, and all is well. i've never had a problem of plastics drying out in their original bags though.
  7. is it ok to use improved clinch knot with the the Yo-Zuri? :-/
  8. i also use spinning gear and have been using Trilene XL 10lb. exclusivley. seems like a good all around line. and i always use an improved clinch knot... i know i should learn more knots...but i havent. i'm always wondering if i should try a different line though. :-/ i fish a lot, 95% of time from the bank. in some cover but not too heavy. mainly wacky rig, use some cranks, not a very good jig guy (always worried about getting hung up), and top water whenever i can. i always see that RW recommends Yo-Zuri Hybrid should i switch from mono?? if i do.... can i use my improved clinch knot?? i'm just really torn on what line to use. i don't have problems with the XL, just wonderin' if i should try the Yo-Zuri. or do i need to? kinda like the bait monkey has me on the line. workin' on a tight budget.... i know it's under $10, but if the XL is ok..do i want to switch??
  9. Not much love for the Mann's Baby -1. By far my most productive shallow crank. Any of the firetiger colors are my favorite. yea. why is that? i thought it was one of the best?? :-/ and i just went and bought one last week... > obviously the RC is getting the raves....but it is twice the money... curious, why no one really is mentioning Mann's Baby ??
  10. i don't own anything to cut the hooks off. is there a special tool for that? :-/
  11. my absolute favorite early morning and night lure. last year i fished in a night tourney as a co-angler, i put on the "bug" and my boater kinda laughed at me and said he hadn't seen anyone use that for years. well, after about 4 nice size keepers (released) he changed his tune. 8-) i know he went and bought one ;D i keep 2 in my box. never want to be without... one thing i have read here is that the hooks are no good. i personally have not had a problem. but also looking at it, i'm not sure how i would replace them??
  12. thanks for all the feedback.. maybe one of these days i'll step out of my comfort zone and buy a baitcaster and use Fluoro too... :-/
  13. raul, thanks... i appreciate your detailed feedback. i have never seen or heard of the "big game" of course the largest bass i have ever caught is between 5-6lbs. so maybe even i'm over doing it with the 10-12lb test i use now. :-/ i guess i use the higher lb line for when/if i get hung up i can pull harder to get through or un-hooked... or.... if i do latch on to the MONSTER i hope for.. 8-) i'm glad the XL is a good line.... since i bought 3 spools about a month ago when it was on sale.
  14. thanks... i was hoping the XL was ok/good enough yes, i do "step up" for the hooks. using Owner, Gamakatsu and Mustad thanks for the others suggestions too... i may try them if given the chance
  15. ok... i am a relatively low budget guy. you know... married...kids.. :-? i do not own a boat. i have 4 low cost ($40) spinning reels and $40 rods. i fish as often as possible. 3-4 times a week. i have always used 10-12lb mono line..... for a couple reasons....what i am used to and the fear of the unknown for knots/abrasion/etc. and the general versatility of mono. could i get some suggestions for what mono you might use? currently i use Trilene XL. would you choose different? thanks...
  16. i just got one of these last week. seems like i have to crank it really fast to get the action. very wide/quick wobble. is fast the only way to work this? am i doin it right??
  17. sounds like i was just being "cheap" on my frogs... now i wanna go buy one... 8-) best color?? thanks for the info...
  18. what makes these so much better than say.... the scum frog popper? :-/ they cost twice as much.... and the "you get what you pay for" reason i am not sold on.... yet.... i have the scum frog and have done ok. are they softer? better hooks? if they really are that much better i will convert. when i looked at both, i just didn't see that much difference.
  19. i know what you mean. seems like i always start (and stay with) a wacky worm now. i may switch colors but i seem to stay wacky. i'll fish it different ways. dead stick, slow retrieve, fast, even bringing it to the top. i once was hung on the Yamamoto double tail hula grub. before that it was an original rapala minnow.
  20. "use 2 o-rings and hook thru the X. " i can't get them to X. ?? they are on tight and seem to stay as put on? but i still have not had any hook-up problems. and much easier than the heat shrink wrap. IMHO plus if/when worm finally gets too torn up, i can reuse o-ring... lol!! no that's recycling 8-)
  21. seller name on ebay atrevizo1 item number 310140466300 good luck. he has many listings for these. can't beat the $3.50 and free shipping i asked him about "size" before i bought because i saw different sizes too. but all went well.
  22. well worth it. i got the tool with 10 o-rings from cabelas. then ordered 100 for $3.50, free shipping, on ebay. i know others say use heat shrink wrap instead of an o-ring, but i have had success with the o-ring so i am sticking with them. i just caught 15 fish on the same worm (***), using an o-ring and a 1/0 weedless wacky hook Mustad. i was worried about hook up since the hook now sits horizontal to worm. but i haven't had any problems like i thought.
  23. do they work? it seems to me that imbedding it in the plastic/worm will deaden any sound??? just curious... :-/
  24. thanks for all the ideas...and your successes...or lack of... :-/ i'm goin back this evening...it is supposed to be raining...maybe they won't see me....i'm wonderin' if maybe that was it....but i was as far away as i could get. i did try the swim senko...swimming right past their noses and lettin' it fall....also shook the wacky worm and trick worm right in their faces...i thought i could at least aggravate them into takin' it.. i'm gonna try a jig with a rattle and trailer... and just leave it there.. i'm afraid of missing them if they just pick it up and move it though. i am weak on my jig fishin' since i do 95% bank fishing i tend to get hung up too much to work on it. and if that doesn't work a drop shot.... i do have some old storm swim baits (bluegill) that i may try too. i haven't bought crawlers forever......but....i just may... i'm not familiar with a "stinger hook"?? thanks again for your guys input...
  25. are there times when they just won't bite if on the bed? :-/ went to my favorite place last night...saw two LARGE ones around a bed i found, they were on and off it...i could see them chasing bluegill away. i was bank fishing....i didn't get too close (at least i didn't think so)..i had to stand about 8 feet above since it was too steep to get real close. i tried all these.. 5" trick stick wacky watermelon candy 4" tube green pumpkin bubble gum trick worm chartruse gulp crawler zoom lizard watermelon red berkley chigger craw swim senko pumpkin blk/grn flake even tried a jointed shad rap...suspending.. right on their nose all got attention...but ZERO bites.. i tried for over almost 2 hours... idea's or suggestions?? or are there times they just won't hit anything?? after i left i thought maybe a jig?? since i have never had much luck with a jig i didn't think to try when i was there. FYI... i catch and release ALL..... so no thought of keeping any bedding bass.. thanks.... and yes, Bassin is addicting... 8-)
