  1. i am not sure when and what baits to use each type of hook and what is best. when is an EWG best and for what and when is a straight shank hook best? i appreciate the help.
  2. Cavitron. they have a longer shank for better hook-up and have a distinctive squeaking (not sure if the squeaking helps or not) bit i like it. and i've had more luck with them than any others.
  3. this may be a Mr. Obvious question... does KVD line conditioner work on mono? i see where it is always recommended for fluoro. is it necessary for mono? i use trilene XL and XT there is some memory with these...not a lot...but if KVD will help it would be worth it thanks...
  4. i do 95% of my fishing from the bank look for any cover to start. weeds, brush, laydowns etc. or shade during the day. i used to cast straight out.... wrong... cast parallel to the bank. i would start out with worms. i like to rig mine wacky, using a weedless hook, size 1/0. they give the most action and work best under most conditions. let it fall on slack line. watching the line. then reel slow and feel for any tug, tap, twitch, weight. if you get a strike...watch your line... if it is moving set the hook...if it is a tap, just stop reeling a watch your line, most likely you will get another strike and then you can set the hook. i also like to go at dusk and dawn. using top water. black jitterbug is my favorite. again, casting parallel to bank. it is easy to work and once you get a topwater blast..... you will be addicted... there are many good articles on here to read. what i just said is very basic but easy to learn and practice. good luck!!
  5. top- black jitterbug (my favorite) black Cavitron buzzbait mid- black spinner w/single colorado blade bottom- 10" black blue fleck powerworm it is really warm here too...92 and humid.... but i am headin out at 8 tonight... will be out til 11...bank fishing...and back it at 6 in morn
  6. and...how about the good 'ol black jitterbug?? that is my go to at dusk and dawn. it rarely fails.... i wonder if it is because so many have moved away from it and throw buzzbaits or something else?? :-/
  7. Cavitron rocks!! 8-) i own other buzzbaits but advice from here steered me to buy a couple Cavitrons. have had success and lov'em. they are the best. seem to have a longer shank to avoid fish hitting the blade allows for better hook up ratio. also can run them real slow or fast. very versatile. will be putting on the BUZZZZ and.... the 'ol black jitterbug
  8. i read a lot about the fluke here. but not much on the gulp jerk shad. is the fluke that much better for LMB? just wonderin' what makes one better than the other..... or are they pretty much the same and it is just a prefernce thing. headin' to Dick's after work and wantin' to know which one to get... and color(s) thanks.. also, what size/style hook is best.
  9. that is an awesome creation!! there is no doubt it will catch fish.... can't wait to hear/see results
  10. i've got a 3yr old BPS spinning reel that the bale just flops open. i am assumming it is a broken spring? can this easily be fixed? it is not an expensive reel....under $60. and the closest BPS is over 4 hours away. i don't have ANY experience repairing a reel. suggestions??? thanks in advance.
  11. If you fish in heavy cover or around a lot of trees, I've had good luck with 5" senko's on a Mustad W37754R Ultra Point Weedless Wacky Worm Hook X2 this my go to. 1/0 is plenty big with this type hook. it also consistently hooks them in the corner of the mouth i use an o-ring. i have caught 15 LMB on one senko. good luck!!
  12. i do most (90%) of my fishing from the bank since i don't own a boat. and even when i fish in a tourney with my club as a co-angler, i realized i rarely/barely use a crankbait. and i own a whole assortment cause of the Bait Monkey.... but after this weekends tourney i swore i would not buy anymore cranks.... i fish plastics 75%, buzzbaits and other topwater as well as spinners..... so... for me...... i don't use cranks...
  13. these are what i use. and i fish wacky 70% of the time from the bank. before i used these i was having the same problem, even watching close. i don't have that problem now. these always get corner hooked in the mouth. and i use the 1/0 size Overall Customer Rating: 5 out of 5 Read Reviews(7) | Write a Review Additional Info Buyer's Guide The weedless Wacky Worm Hook has an extra-wide gap for deep, sure hooksets. Return to Search Results Mustad® W37754R Ultra Point Weedless Wacky Worm Hooks - Per 5 Item:9IS-313915 $2.89 ok... i can't tell if the pic came through before i post this.... sorry if if didn't.
  14. i have had success with the Yamamoto double-tail hula grub. weightless, slow fall and texas rigged unpegged 1/8oz slow crawled on bottom, lift and let fall, or swimming it. it was my go-to most of last year.
  15. ok...great... thanks guys... and Raul.... i appreciate your detail...... bigtim... you too
  16. ok.. maybe another dumb question... Raul , or others if i use a regular jig head that doesn't stand up..... what's the point of using a jig head? if it falls over to the side....wouldn't it be pretty much like a texas rig at that point? of course i do beleive that 95% of jigs will end up on their side anyway....so maybe i'm answering my own question :-/ i like the idea of it standing straight up ( 8-)) so, i should invest in the evolution.....but i can't get them at Dick's... what would be similar that they carry? until i order some evolution online? thanks for the feedback.... much appreciated.... i'm fishing in a tourney sunday....as the co-angler.... i'm like a kid waiting for a friday night date
  17. thanks sam... and tim.. i appreciate your info. i only have "regular" bare jig heads. i need to get the ones specific for "shakey". i have seen the ones from megastrike...the evolution one look really good
  18. pumpkin blk/grn flake senko wacky rigged lake fork tackle- live magic shad dawn- popper dusk- jitterbug
  19. this may sound dumb to some.... (hey, that rhymed) but... i need educated on how to fish a shakey head worm. i don't own a boat so 95% of my fishing is fromt the bank. i don't fish jigs much at all (afraid of getting hung up all the time). when it comes to shakey head worms.... do you just rig them on a bare jig head? and bounce them on the bottom or let them sit and "shake/wiggle" them just as the name says?? sorry if this seems pretty stupid... but i didn't know if there was more to it than that. i really want to start fishing jigs w/trailers and do the "shakey" thing to expand my techniques. i already own some jigs and trailers but no shakey head worms. what shakey head worm do you like best? Zoom or Berkley? and colors? i'm goin' to Dick's tonight. Bait Monkey is already in my car thanks for the help...
  20. ok... i'm goin to Dick's this evening to pick some up. what is the best/favorite color??? :-/ i know... different colors different opinions....just seein' what everyone likes. i was leanin' towards watermelon/red or junebug... not both :'( thanks...
  21. Wacky rigged Senko or one of the best baits ever invented. ....the Jitterbug X2
  22. I've been using the Scum frog Popper for years and for me it still out fishes Spro ,Horny Toad, ect. Also you can buy 3 Scum Frogs for what one Spro costs. X2
  23. Except Snagproofs Bobby's Perfect Frog. Casts farther, softer body for better hookups and Not $10.00 a pop. X2 and the scum frogs aren't bad for the money either. have caught many on just the basic $3.29 one.
  24. homemade start out with Kraft Hickory (or any brand really) add; ketchup mustard brown sugar pancake syrup vinegar chopped onion all to taste.... 8-) yes, Sweet Baby Ray's is the shizzle for straight out of the bottle
  25. Crosby, Stills, Nash & (must have) YOUNG Aerosmith Led Zepplin Scorpions AC/DC (old)
