  1. 7lb 10oz on a Zoom u-tail watermelon seed was invited to a private pond at a housing development.... the u-tail was what i had tied on from my last outing so i tried it..... 3rd cast!!! on light spinning gear with 8lb test mono trilene. the person who invited me had some good luck that day too.....but he only fishes about 4 times a year.. and he hasn't fished since... :'( i keep tellin him we gotta go again but he has 3 kids and never gets the chance....and i won't ruin a good thing and go without him. just waiting for the day he wants to go again. we caught at least 6 over 5lbs that day. some on black jitterbug at dusk... now thats heartstopping!!!
  2. i have only used their Live Magic Shad and it is top of the line.. weighted hook and even weightless.... great action. i'm guessing their other plastics are top notch too.
  3. i didn't realize they were so much bigger than just taking the tails off the dbl tail hula grub. which is what i had done a couple times since i could not find the Ika anywhere. 1/2 oz eh? guess i'll need to talk to the Bait Monkey.... 8-)
  4. i know RW swears by the fat ika.... (and i am a cult follower) i can't find them any where near me. i have used the double tail hula grub..... isn't it the same except it has "tails"?? is there a "best" best way to fish it/them? thanks...
  5. i know i have seen them mentioned.. are they good or bad? i can get 3/0 and 4/0 bronze straight shank round bend for about $4 for 25 each. good deal? thanks..
  6. If you look closely, BPS is overcharging for many (most?) merchandise. Online they rip your eyes out with shipping charges. Locally, they are really the only game in town for a lot of stuff. So, I still shop there, but I'm a little more selective than I used to be. i agree... i was so pumped up about goin to one a few weeks ago when we headed south.... yes, i bought a few things...all on sale... but was very disappointed in their prices.... give me dick's..... ;D
  7. well... here's whati ended up with.. 3 enticer football jigs 2 enticer swim jigs 2 packs of tender tubes 3 lazer eye spinnerbaits 2 slim dogs 1 xps crank mid 1 xps crank shallow some hooks and duo lock swivels i really didn't need any line, rods or reels...... but sure looked at plenty.. 8-) thanks for all the suggestions..... i have saved this list for future reference...
  8. thanks for all the suggestions... keepem comin' thursday is payday....and i'll be headin' out fri. a.m. 8-) RW... you serious? nothin' BPS brand? i can't afford the high end stuff like Lucky Craft....
  9. i do 95% of my tackle shopping at local Dick's or online through Cabelas.... yes, Cabelas....i have been loyal to them for over 30 years... BUT... we are headin' south Friday and i will be goin to BPS... what are some of their brand stuff that is worth gettin.. such as... their version of trick worm.....BPS "floatin' worm"?? their spinner baits?? tubes?? etc... suggestions please..... the Bait Monkey will be let out....
  10. The Good old ScumFrog!!! Not the bigfoot, but the original and the Trophy ScumFrogs X2 can't beat the price or the performance. to me they work just as well as the $8-$10 ones
  11. does "finesse" refer to the size/weight? as in under 3/8oz?
  12. usually 4 times a week.... between 2-5 hours i'm addicted....
  13. thanks guys.... i'll pick up a couple and give'em a try i just want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the excellent ideas/tips/suggestions on here. i have learned so much and have put as much to use as i can. you are awesome.... 8-)
  14. excellent suggestions....and links.. i would like to learn to be successful with jerk baits.. what other brands and sizes are good besides Lucky Craft (too expensive to learn with) IMO. i don't want to lose it...i fish 95% from the bank. besides Rapala also..... or is that the best "entry level" jerk bait? thanks...
  15. excellent lure... he "found" it.. lucky him.. i've never used the jointed ones but use the 3/8 black a lot... just chuck it and reel back steady... you will hear the "plop, plop, plop" and get ready... don't react too quick...wait til you feel the weight of the fish... it pretty well hooksets itself.... many think the hooks are junk.. so maybe replace... personally i haven't had bad experience with the hooks... but i did replace since many advised to it is one of my favorites... use it early in morn....and late (dusk) good luck...
  16. I hated having to maintain my gear as well as loaner gear...eventually got rid of the loaner stuff and let them use my stuff. Honestly who cares if it gets a little scratched up, it still catches fish. X2
  17. Zoom U-tail watermelon seed or red shad 4/0 offset Gammie 7" Ananconda green pumpkin 5/0 offst Gammie wacky- trick stick/senko watermelon or pumpkin blk/grn flake 1/0 Gammie weedless wacky hook
  18. TOPWATER!!! heart skips a beat every time... but.. i do know what you mean about the soft plastic... the "tick, tick" and then the anticipation of the line movin'... both are why it's ADDICTING...
  19. Zoom U-tail, weightless watermelon seed red shad
  20. what is the best way to fish these? i fish primarily from shore and fish my plastics weightless so i don't get hung up all the time. are these good for weightless application?' best color?? green pumkin w/black flake?? thanks..
  21. I use a pair of hemostats to those were the days... 8-)
  22. just caught my first Walleye last week on a chartruse spinner caught a catfish on the exact same watermelon seed u-tail zoom worm that i caught my PB 8lb 4oz bass on rockbass bluegill white bass striper hybrid bass
  23. has anyone had any luck with their Dominator or Skinny Dipper? if so, what colors? my local shop has them on sale for $2. they look like old packages but not dried up...thought i could add some megastrike to package and they would be fine if they are good baits.. i've never used them. i have used the beavers with some luck so thought these might be good too. just checkin' thanks...
  24. help please.. i have always picked out a cheap reel... under $35. they have worked ok. until now. i am fishing 3-5 times week. they are not holding up well. i am getting ready to order from Cabela's. where i can pick up more Yo-Zuri line at same time. they have these on sale... or i am open to other suggestions. i don't have more than $60 to spend. :'( Cabela's Prodigy model PD1500B $60 was $100 Quantum Kinetic model KT1oPTiA $40 was $90 Pflueger President model 6730 $60 also, stupid question..... when a reel says "line capacity" and lists 4lb. does that mean that i shouldn't put 6lb Yozuri Hybrid ult-soft on it?? :-/ i really appreciate all your ideas/suggestions. if you know of others that i should consider and where to get them.....i'm open. thanks..._
