  1. I am glad yall been catching them, cause I haven't caught jack worth anything all summer....... seems like all my good fish (which been rare) are 3.80 or 3.67 and haven't caught one of those in over a month ....... cant break my barrier. c'mon Needham.... i know you're tellin all your friends those are 4 lb'ers...... lol!! besides....you're single and have kinds of money... seriously....hope you are doin' well....
  2. i like the red better...easier to see for me. no problem with bleeding...it has lost some color over 4 years of use.... but i'm ok with the color (almost a pinkish) lol!!
  3. Siebert set me up...when you can get 19 jigs and free shipping for $50. you can't go wrong. quality is outstanding. and he's a great guy!
  4. i fish as a co-angler. 3 tackle bags is wayyyy to much. i take one that fits 4 plano 3700's. there is plenty of room in those for any crank i may need. there is also room for 10-12 bags of plastics of various types. i can fit 8-10 spinnerbaits in the plastic pouches that are made for them from BPS as well as 6-8 jigs. i don't take full bags of anything. i'll have 6-8 of each plastic. and various sizes of hooks. as well as a few different weights (not a whole bad of each weight). i use snaps or swivels w/snaps so i can change quick depending on howmy boater is fishing. i only take 4-5 rods. i adjust what i take depending on what lake we are fishing. yes, i drive myself nuts deciding on what to take...but you just gotta narrow it down. i usually end up only throwing 4-6 different baits anyways. lol!! good luck..
  5. this is what i use and it flat out works.. Mustad W37754R weedless fishing hooks
  6. mike's jigs are awesome! very high quality. and excellent service...superfast shipping.
  7. don't be afraid of using a trailer hook (Lake Fork Tackle frog trailer hook)....i haven't had any problem with it gettinghung up in the slop. it does make a difference. i hooked a 4lb'er on the trip....from about 25 yards away. it was only hooked by the trailer. and, yes, braid and at least a M/H rod is the only way to go.
  8. i started using a Lake Fork frog trailer hook.... it has made a huge difference. i landed a 4lb'er on the Roadtrip from about 25yards out and it was only hooked by that trailer hook...it is still pretty weedless. i haven't got hung up on anything.....yet. i also tried bending the hooks up a little bit...i can see that helping some too...
  9. for gnats and biting flies.....Buggins spray is the ticket! it is all natural...no DEET....it is not for misquitos. OFF or REPEL or anything like that designed for misquitos DOES NOT work for gnats. i fish alot on a local river and we get back in "the slew" and the gnats are so bad it is amazing.... they get in your eyes, ears, mouth...shorts...etc. Buggins spray is the only thing that has worked that is available to be purchased...... before i found that spray....i would put together a mixture of pure vanilla and rubbing alcohol and it worked pretty good too. i think i mixed 2 parts alcohol to one part vanilla. they key is to mix it with alcohol and NOT water. the water dilutes it...the alcohol evaporates and leaves the vanilla... it smells pretty good too...lol.....
  10. to address your question... and not recommend rods... no i have not used a heavy rod for that....BUT... knowing that you will allow for the rod strength by adjusting the line and drag.... i think it should work ok.... imo obviously the only way to tell would be to give it a try. but if you are only doing it one week a year....it would be worth it to give it a shot and see before you go buy a rod for just that. if you have a MH.... depending on the rod (since not all manuf ratings are the same) i would be ready to give that a shot too... good luck Jeff.....let us know how it works out..
  11. i've had the same PP 20lb on 4 different spinning setups for 4 years now.... it hasn't failed me once. love it. i see no need to change. although i did put some Tufline Supercast on one spinning combo and gotta say i really like it. super smooth and casts a mile! BUT, it has lost some of the coating on it....i don't think it has affected the strength...."don't think" being the key...just not sure..
  12. way too much to be able to express... everything possible about bass fishing can be found here.... it is incredible the knowledge that is shared. it was awesome to meet everyone at the Road Trip.... i'm looking forward to next year's already.. i also joked with Glenn about "how much money the forum has cost me" it's all good.... i've stepped up the quality (based on the recommendation of others) of every piece of equipment i own. i'm convinced i have caught more fish, better fish, and not lost fish..... with the upgrades.... and if it's all mental...then so be it...but it makes me have more confidence....which is a big part of it all... thanks guys.... (and Kerri)
  13. between the 2 asked about... i use the improved clinch.... even on braid. never had an issue with it slipping
  14. saturday on my home lake... a 3lb 6oz and a 5lb 2oz'er. both on a jig... my # is 4lbs and to me those 2 average over 4lbs.... so, 2 more combos for The Storm!!
  15. that looks awesome!! looks like i will be adding that to my collection of Cavitron's...
  16. IM IN! 10 bucks for every fish over 4# after rooming with Brian on the trip.......i know his mind (and his mouth) works endlessly....(something about that just doesn't sound right does it??) to clarify....he talks alot...ok.. LOL!! you know i love you man!! (yes we are rooming together next year) Brian...fantastic idea!! it is awesome to help a child in this way!!
  17. thanks on where to get them... i also use the Lake Fork frog trailer hook....my last fish on a frog was a 4lb'er....the only hook he had was that trailer...
  18. i like to trim the legs....helps prevent short strikes and i do trim one a little shorter to help walk. you got a Booyah Pond crasher....popper?? where did you get it? i can't find one anywhere. i like the scumfrog popper that i like ok......the spro has a harder body than what i like...i'd like to pick up one of the Booyah poppers...
  19. had an awesome time!! my 1st Roadtrip and i don't plan on missing another one...i'm already looking forward to next year...where ever it is. it was great to finally meet everyone. had a great time fishing with...Brian, Swabby, Rhino, and ProCrafter. i caught fish on techniques that i had never had success with. and got my 1st smallie... overall a total success. thanks to everyone.
  20. 100 fish day.... wow!! you guys are killin' it.. great job... to say i'm excited is an understatement... mike i hope you are able to get things fixed... looking forward to meeting everyone...safe travels for all..
  21. ok... i'm a non-boater...so if anyone ends up wanting to....i'm in...if a partner is needed... i understand the "last minute" call thing....
  22. just purchased my Alabama license!! i don't think i've ever been that excited to buy a fishing license... lol!! question.... is there any night fishing done? if anyone is looking to....i'd be up for it...
  23. i'll take a 50 fish day in the 2-3lb range any day then again i've never had a day like that.....or 5 8lb'ers....or 5 5lb'ers... lol so....i'll take any of those.... the "home" lake here is commonly known as the dead sea among the big hitters that come here i'm really looking forward to fishing a "real" lake.....and experiencing that...
  24. My question is what size Scrounger head and what size Magic Shad? (and your favorite color?) i use 1/8,1/4,3/8 and 1/2oz depending on what depth i'm fsihing i like magic shad and barfish color (because of the chartruese)...and watermelon/red some
  25. Lake Fork Live Magic Shad X2 it is one of my go to baits....it seems to produce in all situations for me.
