  1. cork... no question. love the feel and the look. the only rod i own without cork it is my Veritas spinning rod...while i love the rod. i hate the grip. my index finger actaully goes numb after i use it a while. seems that finger is more on the metal part than the actual grip???
  2. i have to fish with a different boater each tournament. so i am at the mercy of that particular boater. it has gotten close to the point of not bein' much fun on more than one occasion...i've had boaters get mad when i catch a nice one behind them...it is not the money...our tourneys don't pay much...it is just them not being very sportsman-like. i don't get a boat because of many different reasons...so that is not an option. ok... i'll stop whining.... i try real hard to not get hung up so the boater doesn't have to "stop and lose focus"...i think that that actaully hurts me...since you need to throw as close to cover as possible to be the most effective.
  3. heck yes!! it was on last years' Roadtrip. with Needham. we were talking....well, let me correct that. he was talking....i was listening....another correction...i was acting like i was listening...lol.. he said he would be primarily fishing a jig. i told him i'd never caught one on a jig...he said..."you will today"... he was right... and now i am addicted to the jig. and mike (siebert) was awesome enough to make some for me that night....in his truck, using the light of the cab and his wife's cell phone. i have since bought another 20 jigs from him and have one tied on at all times.
  4. Magic eraser then seal with u-40 X3 i got my U-40 on ebay... it was from a tackle/rod repair outfit that sold on there.. so i felt confident it was not "old" stock.
  5. i fish in a small club.... 13 boaters and about 5 non-boaters. i don't have a boat.... we do not fish as partners. i am totally at the mercy of the boater as to where and how we fish. everyone of them is a bank-beater. so i am fishing 2nd to everything. only a couple of them are what i would consider fair as to not throwing at every single piece of cover. i've finished in the top 10 4 out of the last 5 years....i have to adapt as to how slow or fast they fish. and since i only bring 4-5 rods so as not to clutter up the back of the boat, i use snaps on every rig but one. this allows me to change quickly when needed. i agree the posts that mention crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jigs. i've also had luck with various texas rigged plastics. i try not to throw the same thing...unless my boater is killin' me. but when the boater hugs the bank, it makes it very difficult to fish much different than he is. (thats when i want to ask him, if he was me...and getting "back-boated" just how would he fish?)...but that is another topic.
  6. xcalibur xs100... goes about 3ft for me... great bait i also like the timber tiger... dc3 rapala dt4
  7. you sure can tell it is non-fishing weather im many parts... this post has taken a life of its own. i too consider 95%+ of all fisherman/women my friend. i'd love to fish with each and every one of you, there is no doubt in my mind we would get along and have a great time. taking a lure's name as offensive seems to fit the "looking to be offended" catagory ....but then again...if it truly does offend someone, i am not insensitive to that. i believe the intent is to catch fisherman with the names...certainly not to offend anyone. if it were meant that way.....how many of us would be offended by the Norman Fat Boy???
  8. Pflueger President. i own 3...bought them all about 4 years ago...fish 3-4 times a week...can't beat them for the price IMO
  9. Bomber Fat Free is my go to...water clarity dictates color why? i've caught the most fish on that crank at that depth and they don't wear me out...comes through the water pretty easy and it doesn't seem to get hung up...as much as others.... imo
  10. c'mon Needham....tell the truth...you just want to know when it is so you can count down the days when we room together again.. lol... last year's trip was awesome!! can't wait for next years'
  11. absolutely... especially since you say it is your "last chance" to get out... of course, i think it's always worth it...
  12. last year was awesome... every day fishing with someone different....and fishing a different way.. jigs one day.. 1st fish on a jig...25-30 that day...thanks Needham.. and that led to Mike making jigs that night using the light of a cell phone in his truck....talk about customer service... frogs the next day... 4lb'ers...need I say more? then shakey head.... 1/2 oz shakey head in 25ft of water with current... that was awesome Gene.. that trip sure did spoil me....
  13. the only trailer i use on a spinner bait...is a hook.
  14. gotta admit.....i'm looking forward to it....last year was my first.....and won't be my last....it was a great time! everyone was awesome.... and thanks to ghoti...i'm hooked on garlic stuffed olives...
  15. a Zoom speed craw in Junebug fished by itself texas rigged is my go-to in night tournaments and in muddy/stained water..
  16. anyone have any inside info on Brookville? i'll be fishing there the last weekend of this month and have never been there. any help would be appreciated.... thanks...
  17. i personally like the ban. i'm of the opinion. one rod...one line...one bait.. A-rig is non-sporting. IMO
  18. i would agree that 8lb Big Game is not good for spinning reels. unless the reel is at least 3000 size.
  19. Buy TW giftcards when they have their 15% sale off giftcards. Then wait until they have one of their sales, and you can apply the cheap giftcard on the sale prices X2...or 3....or 4.. whatever it is by now. you get 15%...then another 15% off when they have sales...no sales tax...and free shipping... that is when the bait monkey is the happiest.
  20. On my spinnerbaits I will cut a thin slice of clear tubing and slide it over where you tie on, and then use a snap with that. Keeps the snap from riding up the arm. X2 also...everything J Francho said....i do... it works...
  21. i use the Tuf line supercast 12lb that i picked up for the special offer for $5. kinda tricky when tightening the knot to not strip the coating...but i like the performance of it on 2 spinning rigs. i've used 20lb PP on 2 other spinning rigs. and just started using the 20lb Tuf Line braid that i won at the Roadtrip (2,500 yard spool) a lifetime supply.. no complaints yet with it.
  22. another combo for the kids... a 4.1lb'er saturday night in a night tourney. 3rd cast....on a crankbait
  23. i've got one for deep crankin' . i know there are better rods out there but not for the price.. the only thing i don't like is that i think the handle is too short.... i prefer it longer to brace against me for added leverage
  24. brian, you made me a "jig" man for sure... thanks... i'll send ya a pic of 5.2lb'er. and thanks to Seibert jigs... they are awesome!! take care.. i've got a night tourney comin' up next weekend... maybe i'll be able to donate some more for a combo...
