  1. X2 if you are using baitcasting
  2. i use mono or braid. they both float so it doesn't deter from the action.
  3. hey mac... a jig takes some patience to learn. but once you feel that "thump"...you'll be addicted to the jig. i think you are fishing it too slow... imo. i agree with a few of the posts...cast it...let it sit for a bit. jiggle it. then slowly (this is the part where the will tell you how fast "slowly" is) i tend to drag it more than hop it. but i do hop it some too. pausing every once in a while. laydowns... are best. good luck..
  4. i don't use a trailer....other than a trailer hook. i only throw Cavitron and i use both 1/4 and 3/8. colors..white and black..
  5. the lawn mower gas line i use is yellow...no idea of exact "size"...there was clear and yellow. the clear was a little bigger than the yellow. the yellow was recommended by Sam on here. you can buy it very cheap at a hardware store to see if it is the size you like.
  6. i use duo-lock snaps on a couple of my setups. as a co-angler i need to be able to switch a lot and quickly depending on what the boater decides to do. and i do what Felix does... i use lawn mower gas line tubing....get it at the hardware store.. just clip a small piece off and you are good to go. i have all my spinnerbaits pre-rigged like this it keeps the snap from slipping down the wire on spinnerbaits
  7. imo that rod is way too long for him...especially for bank fishing. i also wouldn't recommend a flippin stick. i use M or MH and fish from the bank 75% of the time with no issues. but to each his own i guess. i'd recommend for your height 6'6"...7' max. the 6'6" does allow for easier casting if in tight places. MH will allow for various presentations with no issue.
  8. X2 on Pflueger... he knows of what he speaks...
  9. some great ones mentioned.. Neil Young should be mentioned. if you've ever seen him live...you would know where i am coming from.
  10. both have their place....answer the above question and we'll help with which one..and size too. 4" senko... i use a 3/0 offset round bend..
  11. "mutually exclusive"?? how so? as i read it...he wants the best reel priced under $100...that is not mutually exclusive. he is simply looking for the best value at $100. is he not? while there is no clear cut answer...(as we will soon find out...when the repsonses come in)..opinions will vary...and that is what he is looking for...he wants to makes the best, educated decision based on what feedback he gets here. as for my opinion... Pflueger makes the best spinning reel for the money. for $100...the Supreme would be my choice. i own 2 and they have performed flawlessly.
  12. i've fished them for a year or so..and i do like them. they are soft(er) like a senko...and not durable as you mention...but good action.. a little less money than senkos.....a good alternative imo
  13. i'm familiar with this situation quite well...when i 1st joined a club...boy was i in for an awakening...i was used to bank fishing and working a spot for a while before walking down the bank...i used as light a weight as possible, many times even weightless so as not to get hung up. but i soon learned that that wasn't going to work very well when my boaters were "speed fishing".. so i had to adapt...if i was to catch anything using plastics. so.. i learned some new "favorites" as far as plastic presentations....in no order.. obviously heavier weights on texas rigs...Yamamoto Hula Grub, Zoom UV Speedcraw, Zoom Speedcraw, SK Rage Craw, (after getting to the bottom..these can be "swam" with good results) moving plastics.. like a Lake Fork Magic Shad on a Scrounger... a swim senko, with a belly weight swimming caffiene shad, with a belly weight swim a grub shakey head...enough weight to get it down...and then can be hopped/drug for a while behind the boat..
  14. Pflueger is the best spinning reel for the money imo. i own 2 President's and 2 Supreme's and never had any trouble at all..
  15. for ease and to start with, i would go with 8lb mono. Berkley XL or Suffix Elite. both are good lines with little memory and very affordable. imo anything heavier than 8lb is going to coil and give you fits if you are just beginning. that should get you started and many people stay with one of those lines ...
  16. thanks... i'll check them out next time at BP.. and..i'll see if i can find the Kicker Fish too.. thanks..
  17. i swapped them out to Gamakatsu..round bend. but Owner and the KVD's are good too..
  18. oops...sorry...the muddy water you mentioned 1st. i typically only fish a hula popper at night...and use black.
  19. imo you can't beat a Pflueger spinning reel for the money.. i'd go with a Supreme for both... i've got 2 Supreme's and 2 President's and never had an ounce of problem with either.
  20. black.. and just as important on a Hula Popper.. change the hooks...
  21. i fish from the bank alot...and around rip rap most of the time. rip rap and jigs don't mix well at all... if they are hitting a jig really well...then... i love a Yamamoto hula grub...as light a weight as possible..even weightless... it is a great jig imitator....
  22. mono.. trilene xl suffix elite and i also use Tufline Supercast..on spinning gear that i fish some topwater with....good, bad, or ugly...no issues with it..i like it because it casts a mile..and i don't lose fish because of the distance..due to the lack of stretch.
  23. yep...that is the article..i'm at work (lol) and couldn't remember the mag or the angler.. let me know if it does indeed "float"... thanks..
  24. in one of the recent magazines(can't remeber which one) there is an article that the guy talks about using a 10" inch ribbon tail worm with a "floating tail". it never tells the specific brand.. i'm not familiar with any 10" ribbon tail worm that has a floating tail... anyone?? thanks..
  25. i think you've got the right idea by talking to your boater...and taking what seems best for that day. that is what i do..and based on how he fishes and what lake, determines what i bring. i narrow it down to 5, maybe 6 max. what i usually take... 1) Fenwick Aetos 7ft mh, Citica, 30lb braid. i can use this for jigs, texas rigs, frogs, etc. 2) Pinnacle Perfecta 6' 8" m spinning rod, Pflueger Supreme, 8lb fluoro. shakey head, shallow cranks, wacky, weightless senko, etc. 3) BPS crankin' stick, 7ft mh, BPS proqualifier, 12lb berkley big game, deeper cranks from 8ft to 20ft. maybe spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, etc. 4) Veritas, 7ft mh, Shimano Symetre, 30lb braid, jigs, texas rigs, frogs, etc., buzzbait. 5) Lamiglass 6'6" m spinning rod, Pflueger Supreme, 12lb Tufline Supercast, spinnerbaits, topwater, senkos, crankbaits, there are prob much better setups for each application...and i'm sure i am "crossing the lines" on how i use some of these but i try to have what is versatile and use what i have to be able to switch and still be as effective as i can be. (obviously, i am not opposed to spinning setups... ) i also have these and will switch out depending on partner and/or lake BPS extreme 7ft mh spinning rod, Pflueger President, 30lb braid.. Loomis GLX, 6'6" heavy, BPS PQ, 30lb braid BPS bionic blade spinning rod, 7ft heavy (older rod) Shimano Compre casting rod, 7ft m (a little to whippy for my taste) i have those 2 rods as back ups to swap out as needed. here is an example of a duo-lock i use on occasion..especially for crankbaits. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-FastLock-Bass-Snap/product/7816/ hope this helps... it is difficult for us non-baoters to know what to take and then narrow it down, on setups and tackle.. good luck..
