  1. Im shopping for a motor for my boat and wondering whats the difference between a standard 9.9(4 stroke Suzuki) and a high thrust 9.9(4 stroke Suzuki). If i buy a standard, could i convert it into a high thrust sometime in the future if i wanted??
  2. Well, i actually had something to get excited about last friday. I was at Marburg trolling in about 35 feet of water with a Rapala (30') Tail dancer and busted a 3lb Largemouth. We were trolling back to the ramp to go home. Kinda forgot what it felt like to reel in a nice fish.........felt good
  3. Wel that makes me feel a little better.........least i know its not just me having no luck at Marburg. You know its pretty bad when nightcrawlers and minnows dont entice any strikes.
  4. Anybody catching anything decent up there........cause i sure havent done much at all. Got about 40 -50 hours out on that lake since April and ive only caught two 2lb Laregemouths and two small bluegill. Ive thrown everything at the fish.....thinkin maybe the lake is overfished??? Getting a little discouraged :-[.
  5. Was thinking about building a deck/platform on my '08 Lund WC 14. Basically it would be from the very tip of the bow back to the 2nd bench. It would sit roughly about 6" - 8" below the gunwhale. I would like to put a seat on a pedestal at the center point. Antbody have any experience with this, as far as safety and tipping issues??
  6. Guys, just bought a Humminbird 565 series fish finder and the only bracket in the kit to mount the transducer is the transom mount bracket. I dont really want to drill into my 14' aluminum Lund to mount this thing. Besides the other option of buying the trolling motor mount, what is the best/easiest way of hooking this thing up......
  7. Anyone have any luck catching walleye or pike at this lake. been out on the lake 4 times this spring and have had no luck. All ive been using is some deep running lures.....mostly the new Rapala's(DT series, Deep Tail Dancer,Deep Husky Jerk, Clackin Rap).....no luck. Only one 2lb Largemouth.
  8. Anyone use an electronic "Lure Color Selector"? My fishing partner wants to get one but im not sure i its worth the $100 plus dollars he wants to spend. Do any of you guys use these and are they really worth the effort?
  9. Before i make my second trip to the lake, i wanna get some bunk style guide-ons. Which ones work better in guiding the boat sqarely on the trailer: a (low profile)5' board with brackets that mount in front of and in back of the trailer tire, or a single bracket with a 2' board that mounts towards the rear of the trailer. Im leaning towards the low profile 5' board set-up. What do you guys think??
  10. WOW!!........your right, maybe its not that bad ;D. Hopfully your dad wasn't hurt.
  11. Well, today was the day to take my new Lund WC14 out on the lake. Keep in mind here that this is the first boat i've owned. Ive rented fishing boats before that you just bring your own electric motor and batteries, hop in the boat and push off from the shoreline.....no biggie. I got to admit i was a bit nervous today hoping everything would go ok getting the boat in and out of the water. Well, before me and the wife launched the boat, i got everything ready: putting rods, tackle, food inside, removing the rear boat strap and attaching a rope with a C clip to the eyelet on the bow of the boat where the trailer winch strap attaches to. Well i pulled the boat into the water and told my wife to get on the dock. I threw her the rope which was attached to the eyelet and told her to pull the boat to the side of the dock once i pushed it off the trailer. I removed the trailer winch strap and pushed it off the trailer. She started pulling the boat towards the dock while i was walking around the truck to get back in so i could park it on the upper lot. All of a sudden i hear her yelling my name. I look back and the boat is adrift in the middle of the cove with her still standing on the dock but the rope was not attached to the boat.. . I believe in the rush and nervousness of my first launch i did not have the C clip on properly!!! A gentleman who was in a pontoon boat seen the whole thing happen and picked me up and gave me a ride to get my boat.....how embarassing. Needless to say it was a learning experience :-/.
  12. You are out on the lake in your aluminum boat and a quick storm blows in with lightning? Get to shore as quickly as possible and get out and wait for it to pass????
  13. Count your blessings, that boat rolling down the driveway could have been a lot worse. As far as fitting the boat in the garage, just re-support the shelving to make room and you'll be in business. ....good luck
  14. Allright guys, im looking for some options........Since my boat stays in the garage and i never take any of my tackle out of the boat, im looking for some options on how to secure my fishing rods during transport. I have everything else(Oars, batteries and tackle boxes) secured. I really dont want to drill into anything, so im thinking of putting a strip of velcro on 2 of the benches, buying 2 Berkly (4 rod) holders...then putting velcro on the holders and then securing them to the benches during transport. What do you guys think and how do you transport your rods? By the way i have a Lund WC14 aluminum boat.
  15. the only problem mounting 3' aft the stern and bow is that i would have to mount them on the gunwale.......which is not flat so the cleats will not mount properly?????
  16. Cant decide where to mount an anchoring cleat on my 14' Lund. Im thinking at the stern, right on top where it says Lund. What do you guys think......maybe post some pics if possible.
  17. I also just bought my first baitcaster a month ago. I havent been out fishing yet, but i probably have a good 2-3 hours of practice in the backyard. Im pretty confident at this point.....no more backlashes. It just takes awhile to get the hang of adjusting spool tension and braking with your thumb, cause honestly the centrifical brakes do not prevent backlash. cant wait to get out on the water with my new rod and reel!!!!! Just keep practicing..................Good Luck
  18. not to go totally off subject but, what is the proper way to hold a pike/musky/pickerel? According to my state fishing handbook, you should never grab by or under the gills. Every video i watch, the fish are being grabbed under the gills. :-?
  19. So i'm assuming that if a big fish starts to flop around while on the Bogagrip, the prongs will not tear the fishes mouth?
  20. Any of you guys use the Bogagrip? If so, how do you like it. It seems the prongs would actually tear into the fishes mouth because they are too small????
  21. Thanks for the input guys.........Ive been told walleye from family and friends before so i guess they were right. Looks like i might be doing some walleye fishing this spring......
  22. gonna be getting back into fishing this spring since the early 90's. Even back in the day, i always released my fish. Now i plan on actually eating some fish i catch. I was wondering, out of these fish (bass, crappie, bluegil, walleye)which ones taste the best. What i mean by taste is: i like a fish like pollack, cod or haddock.....something that doesn't have that strong fishy taste. What do you guys think?
  23. Anybody know of any good informative video links on using a Baitcasting reel. Searched Youtube.....only found a couple that was good.
  24. You don 't have to mount anything nor drill anything if you get a pair of collapsible ones. Ive been to Bass Pro and Gander Mountain......haven't seen collapsible ones yet. Not sure if they would be long enough and sturdt enough though.......gonna do some research
  25. Allright guys, you convinced me. I figured it would be wise to carry a set. Gonna try to fab some brackets so they will ride on the outside of the boat when im in the water.
