  1. Nice bass! I caught one that was 22 1/2 or 23 inches long, can't remember don't usually measure them, and weighed 6lbs 03oz (my pb) it had the same build as yours so it’s in that ball park probably. I usually slap the Rage Craws on a jig, I've never tried a keel weight on one. I'll have to try that. What size hook was it 2/0 or 3/0 or do they come in a standard size with the 1/8th ounce hook?
  2. Your a big dude so its kind of hard with you behind it but my guess would be 2lbs 14oz - 3lbs 06oz. He looks very healthy, That said all bass fisherman should get themselves a scale, its like the Bible of the fishing world and keeps us honest>
  3. Your right about that! I've caught smallies around that size and thought I had a much bigger fish, you one of those "get the net" shout outs to your fishing partner just to find out its a smaller fish. Smallies sure are fun no matter the size! Sounds like you had fun dday07, wtg!
  4. Speaking of Brown trout my Aunt and her friend went fishing last week and they shared my Aunt's fishing rod. They were fishing from the bank using an ultra light rod and 2lbs test line. This is what my Aunts friend caught!! 7lbs 06oz 26" Brown trout!
  5. Well I went smallmouth fishing today. The wind was horrible, a steady 20-25mph with gust close to 30mph. Maid it very difficult to fish. Caught one decent smallie with a 1.5 crank and then I caught a few 1 1/2 - 2 pound smallies on a spinnerbait. I spotted a few beds but they mostly held small males. I tied a tube on and started fishing the outer edges of the spawning grounds to see if I could catch the bigger fish. This paid off very well as I started boating a three pound average. It was very hard fishing the tube effectively due to the high winds. I put a heavier jig head on and that seem to help a little. I believe that I really would of nailed them today if I could of fished slower, but the weather wouldn't let me. I had a five fish total of a little over sixteen pounds and my biggest was 3lbs 07oz. I usually do better on this lake but then again the weather is usually better. It was still a great day, and I did catch a 17 inch brown trout that I forgot to take a picture of.
  6. average is around 65.8 degrees, the smallmouth and largemouth are starting spawn. I've seen beds from both.
  7. Once you get that trolling motor and get out on the water, you'll start pulling them in too. Maine bass waters will make anyone look good! Our bass aren't as pressured.
  8. Went fishing today with a terrible storm front coming through. Very gusty winds and Thunder storms. My jigs didn't work today, nor the cranks so I picked up the spinnerbait and on the first cast this guy bit. They were located around rocks in last years pickerel grass. Caught close to thirty between 2lbs - 3lbs. The first one was the biggest at 4lbs 4oz. The lightning got a little too close so I called it a day even though the bite was on. If the weather is better tomorrow I think I'm going to try my favorite smallmouth lake.
  9. Congrats, nothing like a fat healthy smallmouth!
  10. Way to go with the new PB!
  11. Great looking bass! Stay in em!
  12. congrats
  13. Its not bad if you can get past the odor!
  14. Caught a couple of nice bass around this dead moose, must be attracting bait fish. The alewives are running and its getting hard to catch the bass, I think they are really focusing in on the alewives. Think the next time that i go I'm going to try a swim bait to try and mimic an alewife.
  15. WOW! WTRDOG! Nice group of bass you got there! Man all Maine lakes look the same, that lake looks just like the one I fished the other day but I know its not.
  16. They just had a tourney at Toddy pond and the Lunker was an 8.2 lbs largemouth!
  17. We caught all of these bass power fishing; if we didn't get a bite we would move on to different cover, shoreline and different baits. They are willing to bite if you use the right presentation, lures and cover. Fishing over 10 feet of water right now seems a little too deep! I wouldn't fish that deep until around the end of June or the beginning of July! Not trying to sound like a know it all but shallow 10 feet or less cover is the bet right know. Spinner baits, straight rigged senkos, tubes, jigs, suspending jerk baits, cranks and jigs are great right now! Check out my club's website; http://www.themainebladerunners.net/ We have had some nice bass weighed in so far.
  18. Well its been a great season so far! Took my Great Uncle out today for his first trip of the season and he catches a nice one. Just shy of 5 lbs. This might be his last trip for a few months too because he has to start treatment for his cancer. This fish put a smile on his face though! Both fish were caught on jigs rig with a Rage Craw. That rod with the spinner bait was just put there, thats not what it was caught on. And mine from Saturday.
  19. Fishing a jig and craw again today, the lake was like glass today, which is a nice change from all the wind! Caught a nice 4lbs 08oz largemouth on the black jig. Put up a nice fight. Caught a few three pounders too. They were very active today, you would toss your jig out and see a V-line come from 10 yards away and smash your lure. It was great fun and we caught 32 bass all together. Here is the 4lbs 8oz. largie: A few more from today: A few smallmouths from a few days ago:
  20. The hale bouncing off the deck: The snow: Time to go home!
  21. Lets start here! First fish of the day and the lure: Second fish of the day: Lets cast into these alders! Thunk thunk whats that? Oh ya a nice 5lbs 03 largey! Followed by a colorful dink: A 3 1/2 pounder A almost 3 pounder: Got too wet and cold no more bass pictures but it was 26 total for the day
  22. Just got back from an uncomfortable day of fishing. Got on the lake around 0930 today, I almost didn't go because it was suppose to be very windy. It was suppose to be in the high 40's so I decided to go fishing instead of sitting around on my butt. Well the weather man was wrong again! It ended up only topping out at 41 degrees and thats not counting the 15-25mph winds. I tried fishing a couple of spots in the lake and ended up not getting any bites. So I decided to go and fish the stream out to the main river. The water was very high from all of the previous rain storms. There was a bunch of trees blown down into the water, which should make for some nice cover later on. The water temperature was right at 46 degrees. Came up to a beaver hut and started fishing in the stream. I grabbed my rod that had my 3/8 oz black and blue jig with a black and red fleck craw trailer. First cast tight in next to the beaver hut. I let the ripples settle and then I reeled in the slack. Bang bang, my first bite for the day, "awesome", my mind thought! I set the hook and reeled in my first very feisty largemouth for the day. He weighed two and a half pounds. Very healthy looking and boy he gave a good fight, even in cold water. This proved to be the pattern for the rest of the day. It was miserable out there though. It rained, then it haled, and then it snowed and the wind was awful. However! I had a great day of fishing! I caught 26 bass for the day. One dink but the rest were good solid 2 1/2 pound bass. I caught one 3 1/2 pound largemouth and lost one at the boat that looked to be in the four pound range. The highlight for the day was the beautiful 5 lbs 03 oz largemouth that I caught. It was the third bass for the day at that time. She was laying in about a foot of water right tight inside the alders. She put up a great fight and took lots of drag! And she put a big smile on my face. Going out again tomorrow. Going for smallmouths again. The trip to the stream: It was calm for the first hour, thats why the lake is so flat, that changed! Tempting shoreline: Should be good cover a little later on in the season:
  23. I know you all have probably seen these already but it is just to show both largemouth and small mouths are biting good: so I recommend that you all get out there and nail them while you can! He is a trooper we woke up to rain again this morning but there was no wind. I called him up and asked if he still wanted to go and he was like your dang right I do! Got love the spirit so I suited up and met up with him at the gas station. This guy hardly gets to go fishing and his tackle is made up of whatever essential bait that I told him he would need. Lets make a long story short; we fished in the river and he hooks into his largest bass ever, and it put up a nice fight. In fact it was kicking his butt but he overcame the obstacle and landed a nice 5lbs 05oz largemouth. This is his new PB! his Previous PB was 1lbs 08oz, a big bump up. He said that it was because of his excellent guide and I told him nope it was all you. He has only caught maybe 20 some odd bass in his life. He couldn't believe how much bigger a 5lbs bass looks and then he said I wonder what a 8 pound bass looks like, I said don't push your luck! Well here is the proud fisherman! He caught it on a Black and Blue 3/8 oz jig with an Okeechobee colored Rage Craw trailer. A few more from the day;
  24. And now the bonus brown trout:
  25. sorry pic heavy
