  1. LoL, I didn't think I would get a reply . Guess there are just too many lakes around here to fish? I will post a report on it, or maybe not, might want to keep this one a secret if it turns out good.
  2. WoW! That's a really nice looking smallmouth!
  3. Ya but if it ends up being Toddy I may look like a fool cause that lake could even kick KVD's butt! lol
  4. I probably won't be going your way during my vacation due to the weather. However, I have a lot of regular time off with my job. Mostly during the week days. If I ever get down your way and I don't have a fishing partner with me I'll contact you before hand and you could jump aboard.
  5. I love jigs my favorite way to fish! To be honest I only need four lures; Jig, Spinnerbait, Tubes and Suspending jerkbaits, but you know a fisherman needs more selection ! I almost wanted to jump in the lake to warm up!
  6. Thanks for the info! Our five fish limit for that day was 13 lbs, on a slow day, I told my father that I bet it's going to take a big bag limit. Those bass were fat and healthy.
  7. We fished the south end and then all of the back coves with weeds. We didn't have much luck around the rocks. Is there any off shore structure? Like rocks or grass beds? We didn't get to fish the lake that thorough. Do you catch them in the rocks? I think the bite was really off when we fished it.
  8. Quick question; have any of you fished Spednik Lake in Washington county? I'm on leave for the next couple of days and as soon as I get a decent day weather wise I was planning on going to this lake. I live in Washington county and have not fished this one before. It's suppose to have great smallmouth fishing. Read a report that said it had a slight downfall in the 80's but they took bass from Meddybemps and stocked them in there to help bring them back up to par, wondering if the fishing is back to good?
  9. Cool! Maybe you don't need to get that boat rigged up? Thats funny I threw a crank a lot this past weekend and didn't get any takers. i want to know where the heck you found the sun? This weather system followed me up from Augusta and won't go away. I'm on vacation and I'm wondering if it's worth my time to fishing in this cold wet weather? I know I'll catch fish but frankly I'm sick of being wet all the time! Ok I'm done crying now.
  10. On sunday we made the return trip home and fished Three Mile lake on the way. Once again it was raining and it was cold, I mean my hands were going numb in June! We caught a good number of bass but it was a game of patience. We flipped jigs into matts of lily pads and just dead sticked the jigs as long as we could stand it and sometimes you would get a thump and have one heck of a fihgt trying to pull them out. I believe that I had one real big hog on but I just couldn't clear him from the pads! Not a bad lake but it is not very big and I feel if we get the 35 boat cut off limit at the tournament, (plus we have 25 boats from our club going) its going to be combat bass fishing. There just isn't a lot of lake to fish and everyone is going to be fishing right next to each other. All and all it was fun fishing new water but I wouldn't trade it for the fishing in Downeast Maine. The lily pads that held the bass:
  11. Day two started out overcast but warn then turned to cold and then rain! Go figure drive half way down the state for a three day fishing trip and run right into a major cold front with rain. We could see our breathe on Saturday and Sunday. It's June and I'm cold whats going on with the weather this year? We ended up going into this shallow cove that had grass banks and logs and stumps scattered throughout it. I could see a few bass swimming around so we knew there were bass in the area. I ended up rigging a 3/8 oz black and blue jig and attached a Rage tail lobster in June bug as a trailer. It proved to be the right combination as I just started pulling them in Right after another. My dad was useing a black and blue jig with some other June bug colored trailer and he was only catching a few here and there. By the end of Saturday I landed 30+ bass and my dad caught about 12. We only took pictures of the better bass. After two days of fishing on Cobbseecontee we thought the lake was pretty cool. We do feel that we hit it in bad weather conditions and that the bite was off so we could only imagine how the fishing was on a good day. We did catch a few bass from off shore humps with grass on them too. All and all the fishing was good but my father and I are spoiled back home fishing on our home waters where we have the whole lakes pretty much to ourselves. Back home we don't have to worry about other bass fisherman getting to the good fishing cover before us, or the places that we go "lets try over there" and as we head over there a faster boat passes us and goes strait to where we pointed. Did catch a few spinnerbait bass too:
  12. I was planning on going for a three day fishing trip to a new smallmouth lake a few hours from me called Nicatous lake. My father ended up calling me and told me that he had taken the same time off and that he wouldn't mind going fishing too. He made a proposal that instead of going to Nicatous lake we should travel down to southern Maine and try fishing Cobbossecontee lake for two days and on the third day travel back and fish Three Mile lake. We have a tournament on Three Mile Lake in two weeks so I though it sound like a good plan. We have never fished these lakes before. Cobboseecontee lake is suppose to be one of the best bass fisheries in the state, I kind of think that it is considered one of the best just because most of the out of state fisherman stop there to fish and go no further. There were more out of state license plates there than state of Maine plates. We fished there Friday evening from about 3:30 pm to sunset. We had no clue where to go so we fished as many different types of cover as possible and we tried to cover as much water as possible so we both alternated between cranks and spinnerbaits. My very first cast with a spinnerbait produced a nice three pound smallmout but I lost him because he was full of spunk. The water temperature back home was 65 degrees, it was 76.8 degrees down therer. About six more cast later I hooked into a very large fish and I only got a glimse of it before the hook fell out, but I believed that it was a Northern Pike. We have no Northern Pike in my part of Maine we just have Chain Pickerel. My Dad ended up catching the first Pike and it ended up weighing 5 1/2 pounds. I know this is the small end for Pike but boy did that guy fight. It was awesome because it was our first pike ever. We ended up catching a few nice largies that first evening.
  13. Wow! more amazing hogs! Why don't you ship some of the hogs up to Maine so I can stock some of my lakes? With post after post of the same quality bass I don't believe that's called Luck!
  14. Jigs are my go to baits! I love dressing them up with a nice Rage craw too. I don't like looking at BIG-O's post anymore, he makes my 4-5lbs bass look like dinks!
  15. I hope you went out and bought yourself a good scale, I don't want to see any post of "how big do you think this fish is?" You will get your new PB if you fish those lakes enough. If they were not so far away I would have probably topped my PB by now. The gas prices have forced me to fish my local lakes, (eight of them within and hour).
  16. I went fishing yesturday with my great uncle and we caught about 30 bass. Most of them were in the 1 1/2 pound range but that is the norm on that lake we fished that day. I caught one nice fish and my Uncle lost one right at the boat that looked to be close to four pounds. I went back out today to my favorite lake and the bass licked me today. I only caught five bass. I saw plenty of them but they didn't want to bite. It was a blue bird very warm day. No wind at all! I fished in the stream and saw a couple of big bass cruising but when I cast my lure towards them they spooked on me. Oh well! thats fishing. On the up side I took my rabbit dog out fishing today for the second time ever and he is proving to be a very good fishing dog.
  17. Once you get your boat rigged you need to get out on that lake, it is a good place to fish for big bass both largies and smallies!
  18. About time ICU! LOL, I bet you I can pm you the location of where that pic was taken. My buddy and I use to fish there a lot. Good size bass in there. Our best day there we had close to a four pound average. In the spring of the year right where you took that picture we use to catch some real hogs right from the bank. We would jump out on those rocks way down to the right and cast out into the middle. Congrats and go catch some more.
  19. To be honest I hate fishing spawning largemouth, they do not guard their beds as aggressively as smallmouths do. I like fishing them after the spawn thats when the bite usually picks up again for me. One of these days I will probably bump into at Toddy, if I do I will say hello. By best friend and I fished a tournament together on Toddy about 4 years ago and he threw a huge swimbait. He had two massive strikes and two massive line breaks! Found out later he was using 8lbs test with very heavy swimbait!! I wasn't that happy with him the rest of that day.
  20. I've been bass fishing the lakes around me since I was 8 I'm 30 now, so I have a general idea of what works on a given day and time of the year, that is all. The bass were mainly focusing on spawning activities. What I discovered was that they were grouping up in last year pickerel grass flats for spawning. I was throwing a 1/4 oz jig with a twin tail grub trailer, (my rage craws are getting low need to make an order), and casting into the pickerel grass in about 3-4ft of water. Then it was a matter of patience. It seemed that the longer I would let the jig just sit in one location with a fairly slack line, still tight enough to feel the bite, the better off I was. You would get one bop and then the line would run. The only problem is that I lost a couple real good ones because they wrapped themselves up bad in the pickerel grass. That stuff is strong and I was fishing with braid. Have you been to Toddy yet? I've only gone there once this season. I caught one right at 4lbs and then a bunch of smaller 1 1/2lbs bass. That was all, but my home lakes the next two days fished about the same so something was up all over.
  21. I got off a twelve hour shift this morning and I have to work another twelve hour shift tonight. Like the fishing fool that I am I decided to go fishing between shifts instead of getting the much needed sleep that I needed. Well the morning started off very slow. It was sunny and calm but there was a chill in the air. At around noon that chill left the air and the warmth moved in. I finally figured out the right presentation and I started boating bass after bass, almost every cast. Well the clock was ticking down and I needed to get a little sleep before I go back to work, so I decided to call it a day. Do you know how hard it is to quit when the bite is on? It felt like I was going to catch my next PB on any giving cast but I had to go! I'm off tomorrow though! These are the only photo's that took:
  22. Cool thanks, and good luck tomorrow!
  23. LOL! "Moose Magic",.....On the bottle in fine print: "WARNING!! DO NOT USE DURING THE RUT!! MIGHT CAUSE UN- WANTED RESULTS.....!!
  24. Ya, and I'm taking leave from 10th to 16th of this month and I plan on fishing every day! As if I don't go enough already! Thinking about trying a new lake and camping out on it. It's suppose to have good smallmouth fishing and its called Nicatous lake. I really don't want to have to pound my boat and trailor over 25 miles of dirt road one way to get to it though I will also fish the heck out of my local lakes too just because of gas prices, It will be fun either way. Just pure fun fishing before the tournament season starts up again.
