  1. Great looking bass and nice boat. Hope to see many more post from the new boat.
  2. Thanks, its a little bit of a trip to this lake but I keep going there because one of these days I believe that I'm going to break 5 pounds on a smallmouth here. I honestly think I may even be able to get close to six pounds here, but that might be pushing it a little. It is a pretty clear lake and I have seen some bruisers cruising around that I can't get to bite.
  3. Great post!! I don't care where you are a 4 pound plus fish is great fish. 8-) And if it isn't you are spoiled!! ;D
  4. I've thought about getting one, and probably will someday. I wonder how many logs it would get snagged on though?
  5. I love spring fishing as soon as the Ice goes out!
  6. We got on the water at 9:20am and we left at 2:00pm because I'm feeling pretty sick. Once again the darn cranks and suspending jerk baits are smoking hot. We caught 24 smallmouth bass for the day. They were very healthy looking and feeding heavily. Every single bass we caught either had a big bait fish sticking out its throat or a crawfish. We only took pictures of three pound bass or better so our total was eight over three and one over four. Our five biggest bass weighed 4lbs 01oz(mine and was the last fish of the day), 3lbs 15oz, 3lbs 11oz., 3lbs 10oz. and 3lbs 09oz. for a total of 18lbs 14oz. As we were leaving the fishing was getting better. When I caught the 4lbs 01oz. bass at the landing there were about a dozen more bass chasing him around trying to get the bait from him. Oh! and boy were they fighting today, jumping and pulling. You would get them next to the boat and you thought you had them beat and then they would pull for the bottom again. Its hard to beat the fight of a smallmouth!! If I look like I'm standing kind of funny its because of that old men and cameras thing again. I have to jump into the frame. ;D My 4lbs 01oz. smallmouth he had my jerk bait and just got done swallowing a big crawfish! My biggest smallmouth for 2010 so far 8-) This is my lucky crank, lost both eyes and the paint is gone but it just keeps getting better with age
  7. Thanks, I have lots of overtime too, so I get out any chance that I can. These fish were caught up to Grand Falls Flowage. That's in your neck of the woods.
  8. Wow!! Makes me not want to waste your time by posting my 3 pound dinks
  9. Been there, done that, even here in California, early Jan. Nice pics of some nice looking smallies. I'll bet they pounded those crankbaits!!! Jerry They slammed the cranks. Usually right after it crashed into a boulder!
  10. Thanks, we ended up fishing in the streams and in the river due to the huge waves in the lake.
  11. Went out today for some smallmouth fishing. My Father and I went and fished a lake that we have a tournament on April 25th. It was very tough fishing because we had a steady 20-25mph wind with gust over 30mph. We couldn't get out of the wind so we had to use the anchor, which limited the amount of water we could fish. All most fell out of the dang boat a couple of times. I caught only one bass today on a tube that they usually nail there this time of year. I ended up catching them on a fluorescent orange floating jerk bait and my dad caught his on a suspending husky jerk bait. They were in 8-10 foot of water and they were hungry. We had like five to six bass chasing the baits back to the boat and then when you hooked one the others would try and take the bait from him. We caught 29 of them and all of them were over two pounds except one. The two largest weighed in at 3lbs 09oz and the other was 3lbs 05oz, which made us very happy considering the conditions. There were 4-5 foot waves on the lake. You can't see them in the picture because we anchored just behind a point that blocked the wind a little. Fat bellies!! Think these are the same two just with a flash
  12. Thanks, the Ice usually isn't out until the 16th to 20th of April. We got very lucky this year.
  13. Went fishing on the tenth and had a pretty decent day. Between my Father and me we caught 27 bass. It was pretty tough fishing because of the high winds, 15mph 20mph with gust up to 30mph. The hot baits were a jig with a rage craw and crank baits. The fish were anywhere from 2 foot of water at the bank to 8 foot of water offshore. The biggest bass was only 3lbs 14oz but we averaged in the high two pound range so that was pretty good. Told my Dad that he looks like a dang terrorist!! ;D Smallies and largies living in Harmony. :-*
  14. Great looking smallies!!
  15. There was a wide range of water temps on the largemouth days, It ranged from 48-57 degrees. I was finding them in the 51-57 degree range and they were pretty much tight to the bank in about four foot of water. I caught a few off the bank in about six foot of water too. They were also located mostly on the heath shorelines and if there were a few rocks mixed in those heaths those were the really hot shorelines.
  16. All of mine are weighed, and I actually go through the extra trouble of checking my scale with a certified five pound postal weight and it is always right on. I'm very picky and want to make sure that I get the exact weight of a fish.
  17. Just remember that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger!
  18. Just to put things in perspective; the day my friend and I went on April first our five fish limit was 17lbs 09oz, which I think is awesome. I would have won a lot of our local tournaments with that weight last season! My best five fish total on this lake is 19lbs 10oz. with all smallmouth there are no largies in this one.
  19. I didn't hate your post, I was just stating that you should go out and take them on!! I honestly don't worry about those things, maybe I should? I worry more about feed, water temp, wind direction, structure and which way the water is flowing or not flowing!
  20. LOL, he likes doing that!! The weights are true though. I weighed them on my x-tools scale and that thing is dead nuts on! I verified it on my certified 5 pound weight!
  21. Ya, I know pictures can be deceiving. He probably is closer to 6. I have that same exact rod and I love it!!
  22. How much did she weigh? Are you casting or are you trolling for those? Great looking bass, awful fat! You ever try deep diving cranks? because I'm having great success with them this year. Going to where you are located is at the very top of my to do list! We have numbers and some pretty big smallies but nothing like the average size of your smallies! I can have an average weight of about 2lbs 8oz to 3lbs 10oz., but to catch a four pound plus bass is something special around here, at least for me. I'm still trying to break the five pound mark, one of these days I hope it will happen! One more question, how does a smallmouth that big fight? are they so fat that they don't fight as good a smaller one? Sometimes I swear the little two pounders fight better than some of the four pounders I catch.
  23. Awesome!!
  24. Congrats! nice jig and nice looking bass, but I do think you should add a nice scale to your arsenal. I'd say that bass is closer to 5 pounds. Still an awesome bass. Of course I've been wrong before ;D
  25. You can learn a lot on this site, but at the same time you'll learn more by actually going out and breaking it down yourself. Time on the water is way more valuable than reading about it. Man if I worried about all the little things I'd be bald by now. Just because the calendar says that the fishing is going to be bad, doesn't mean you shouldn't go! I've gone on days that according to common knowledge should have been terrible fishing and yet I hammer them. Who knows? Maybe you will go out there and unlock some little secret tactic that you could later share with us!
