  1. My favorite plastics for smallmouth are tubes, grubs, texas rigged rage tail craws or 1/4oz. & 3/8oz. jigs rigged with a rage tail craw. For top water action I love stanely ribbit frogs.
  2. Must be nice to be looking for that first seven pound smallmouth!! I'm personally looking for my first over Five pounds. I have caught alot of four pounders but for some reason the all mighty doesn't feel that I'm ready for a five plus!! I don't agree with him! 8-)
  3. Nice looking bronze backs guys!!, Well the winter time blues are here. The boat and tackle are cleaned up and put way. Time to get some hunting in till spring. Most of the waters I fish hold both smallmouth and largemouth. I love fishing for both of them and yes I feel that they fight differently. In my experience a largemouth might give you one or two decent jumps and then they just pretty much pull for the bottom. They are usually easier to net. Smallmouth on the other hand seem to jump and move a lot faster pulling side to side and for bottom and they never like going in the net. Just when you think you have them you put the net in the water and they go ballistic again. River smallmouth are the ultimate fighters. I've caught a few lazy largemouth but I don't think I have ever caught a lazy smallmouth no matter the size. I love both of them but if I had to pick just one to fish for the rest of my life it would definately be smallmouth hands down.
  4. Cool great fish, new PB's rule!
  5. Sounds about right, Nice fish!!
  6. Heck of bass!
  7. I have always been a jig man, but I just added the crankbait to my arsenal this year and man is it producing for both the largemouth and the smallmouth! Don't know why it took me so long to use them?
  8. Thanks, my last PB lasted 3 years, hope it doesn't take that long to top this one!
  9. I have to make this quick because I have to eat dinner. Went out for a quick trip today and caught my PB largemouth. It was 21 inches long and weighed 6lbs 03oz. caught him on a 10-13ft crank in about 14 foot of water. Well here he is and he was my first bass for the evening. I would tell a better story but I'm hungry!! This ensures that I catch him when he is over 7lbs!!
  10. Thanks all! I've been back up there three times now and have done pretty good. I've got one of those "the one that got away stories" that just makes me sick. I went back the next day and hooked into my biggest largemouth ever and the line broke less than 5 feet from the boat. I got a very good look at him and I don't even want to say how much I think he weighed, because you can't say for sure until you weigh it. Put it this way I would be very lucky if I ever hook one like him again in washington counth Maine, let alone anywhere in Maine. I fish a lot and I mean a lot and I have never layed eyes on one like him before and I probably will never again! :'( Oh well, that's what keeps us going back out right? That 5 pound smallmouth was 21 1/2 inches long and this largemouth looked to be noticeably longer!
  11. Great post and nice fish!
  12. Nice!! You have a heck of a fishery there you lucky dog!
  13. The three pound smallmouth spit one up that was about 7 to 9 inches long and about 2-3 inches deep from the top of the back to the belly. I couldn't believe a smallmouth that size could eat something that big.
  14. All three of these bass were spitting up big alewifes. The alewifes are running hard right now and they are good for fattening up the bass. Caught two 4lbs pickerel that day too, they ended up in the smoker though!
  15. Well had a great day of fishing today. There is a guy in my bass club that I have have been trying to go fishing with but we can never seem to get the time to go together. I went fishing solo today but I have to drive by his house to get to the lake that I was heading to. He noticed that I was alone in the truck. Well I was already on the lake fishing for about 20 minutes when I get a call on the cell from him. He asked where I was and if I was alone and then he kind of invited himself which I didn't mind. He told me he could be at the landing in 10 minutes and I said I would pick him up there. I have to work tonight and he had to pick his kids up from school at 2:30pm so we decided to make a quick trip of it. We decided to go fish the river instead of the lake. I started the day off with a nice 3lbs 05oz smallmouth that I caught on a lip-less crank. Then I switched over to a 10inch worm and within a couple of cast I caught a nice 4lbs 04oz largemouth. I was feeling pretty good at this point having a guy that I normally compete against in tournaments fishing in my boat and I'm doing pretty darn good. Well he is skunked up to this point fishing a wacky rigged senko. Well we get up to where this brook flows into the main river and there is a nice beaver hut with a feed pile right at the enter section. Well he cast up in there and lets the senko sink. His line immediately takes off and he reels down on it and sets the hook. His drag starts a singing and he goes holly beep beep I got a monster. I drop my rod and grab the net. This fish is owning him and we don't even know what it is. The fish is diving under the boat bending the rod over the gunnel and then it gets wrapped on the trolling motor. I dive down and unwrap the line and some how he manages to keep him on. I lift the trolling motor out of the water. At the same time we are running laps around the boat dodging each other as he fights the fish and I try to position myself to net the fish. The bass starts to head for the main motor so I run back there and hit the trim to get it up and out of the way. We are finally in open water where we can fight him. The fish takes one more dive under the boat and I think he is about to come up when we hear a splash on the other side of the boat, we look over to the other side just in time to see this giant smallmouth jump four feet out of the water, we are fighting the bass on the opposite side. We go ballistic at this time because we now know what it is and we don't want to loose it. It finally came over to our side and I dive the net in and land the pig in the net. We get her in the boat and we are both shaking and talking in tongues and screaming and high fiving. This is his biggest bass ever even bigger than his biggest largemouth and it is the biggest smallmouth that has been landed in my boat. She ended up measuring 21 1/2 inches and weighed 5lbs 06oz and she was spawned out. We ended the day with 17lbs 13oz for five fish. It was a great time with a new fishing friend. Here they are: My 3lbs 05oz smallmouth My 4lbs 04oz Largemouth: The rest are his 5lbs 06oz smallmouth: Don't worry about the blood she was hooked in the top of the Tongue not in the gills. We flushed her out good and she took off no problem.
  16. LOL, you guys are trying to make a living at it with a five dollar bet! ;D My Dad and I are cheap and we only go for a one dollar bet ;D
  17. Good job on the new PB and a nice bunch of smallies.
  18. Well this was my best worst day of fishing ever. I fished a new lake today that I will be fishing a tournament on in two weeks. I must of made a couple of thousand cast or at least it feels like it. I only caught five bass and my father only caugth two. My first bass of the day was a dink largemouth, not even a keeper. My second bass was a 5lbs even largemouth, my first five pound bass this season. Then my third bass for the day was a 5lbs 07oz largemouth that was very angry and didn't want to get its picture taken. Then I caught a dink smallmouth and then I finished my day with a 2lbs 09oz largemouth My father ended up catching a 2lbs 04oz largemouth and then topped it off with a 4lbs 09oz largemouth. After his big fish the bite went south and we never caught another fish. I would have been happy with our five fish weight in the tournament with a total of 19lbs 13oz. My first five pound bass of the season at exactly 5lbs even same one Next three pics are of the 5lbs 07oz bass My Dads 4lbs 09oz bass The funny part of the day were these two loons. Loons are protected in this state and there are "Do not bother the loons" signs posted all over the lake. Well I'm about to call the game warden and file a formal complaint on these two loons because they wouldn't leave us alone and kept trying to eat our cranks. We had to leave and go fish a new spot because of them. ;D There is no zoom in the photos they were that close and you could watch them swim under the boat going after the cranks. He is actually looking under water and then when he sees the bait approaching the boat he would dive for it.
  19. Awesome!! sounds like the man to hook up with on Erie!!
