  1. Once again nice bass Dwight! Glad to see you back on northern waters!
  2. Boy it was cold today! My reels and guides on the rods were freezing up. Saw a deer getting chased by a coyote, the deer swum across the stream then I fired a few shots at the coyote, the deer lived to see another day . My father went with me and he ended up getting the dollar for big fish. :unsure Actually, he caught all of the bass I didn't get one bite! Oh well; at least my Dad had a good day. He caught all four of them on a Texas rigged pacca craw. He pretty much caught them all in a five foot circle dead sticking the bait. The biggest of the four went 3lbs. 05oz. The water temp was 44.2 degrees. I think I'm going to try some smallmouths tomorrow even though the weather isn't going to be any better. My Dad says he ain't going again until it warms up a little. Well here are three of the four bass he caught, hopefully I can convince a few smallmouth to bite tomorrow? 3lbs 05oz. dollar bass 2lbs 14oz 1lbs 11oz. dink bass but his first for 2011
  3. Another beauty Big-O!
  4. I like catching, so numbers are great. However, I do love those days when you hall a bunch of 3+ pound bass.
  5. Other than being very destructive to the property they are great for fishing. The waters that I fish here have lots of beaver huts and each hut has a feed pile. These feed piles sometimes get washed down stream or river or further out into the lakes. These are great natural brush piles. I pull lots of bass off from each one of these huts and feed piles.
  6. Yes, we are way behind compared to last year.
  7. The lakes in my area have all opened up!
  8. Thanks Big-O, First tournament is on the 24th can't waite!
  9. This season is already looking like it is going to be a unique one compared to previous years. I've been hitting one of my favorite holes in this stream that is usually on fire right about now. I've been there four times so far and until today and the ninth of April, I haven't managed to get a bite. I fished it on the ninth and managed four bites. Lost one at the bank and then caught a pickerel and that was it. I went back today and fished a black and blue jig with a black/red fleck craw trailer. I only managed to get one bite but I caught him. I had to drag the jig slowly across the bottom of the stream. He put up a nice fight for an early bass. Only weighed 1 lbs 08oz., but boy that first bite of the season is awesome! The other good news is that my lakes have finally opened up and now I will be able to take the bass boat out! Well here is the monster:
  10. Looks fun, great looking bass! Sure is nice to see some New Englanders catching some bass finally. All my lakes still have ice on them. Going to go fish a stream today, haven't pulled the boat out yet though. If I catch anything today I will pull the boat out and get her running. Then I'm taking her fishing on Saturday.
  11. Tell me about it. I was catching bass in a lake on March 26 last year. Won't be long, if you think about it though, traditionally the ice doesn't go out until the second or third week of April. I think we just got spoiled with early ice out the last few years.
  12. Great advise! I live close to these areas, they are great.
  13. WOW! nice looking hawgs there! The Rage lobsters work really well for me after the ice goes out here. Them largies are hungry and they seem to like the larger profile of the lobsters. I'm heading out today, might pull out some junebug colored lobsters?
  14. Went back on Sunday, but I think the front still had them locked up. Had a couple of nice sunny days now. I'm heading back around noon today so that I will hit it around the warmest part of the day, maybe it will be just enough to wake them up?
  15. Great pictures and great looking bass! Its nice breaking an existing PB
  16. Welcome to the Forums. Are you going to be a snow bird or are you moving permanently?
  17. Went fishing for the first time for 2011 on April 1st. Hiked two miles in during a really bad Northeaster! Didn't catch anything but it felt good to wet a line. If the sun had been shinning I would have caught bass here, always do but the the weather was crazy. Going back there on Sunday, the sun was out all day today and it is suppose to be out tomorrow! Might have to put on the snowshoes this time? Hopefully this is the last of the snow!
  18. Took a ride today to check out a couple of my lakes. Couldn't even get to the first one, dang road into the landing is still snowed in too much to drive on The second one was a little more promissing there was open water about a half acre around the landing and the middle of the lake was looking real dark April first I'm strapping on my snowshoes and going to hike about a mile into one of my secret spots, I will catch a bass there!....AND THATS NO APRIL FOOLS JOKE 8-)
  19. My Dad and my grandfather are avid bass fishermen and we live in smallie country.
  20. Calling all fellow Mainiacs! Is there any Lakes in Maine with ice out? Got all my rods and reels cleaned and lube. Got my new trolling motor installed, I'm ready to go fishing but have no place to go yet!
  21. Those are great pictures! They are an awsome bird of prey to watch in action.
  22. Of course we are located in downeast Maine, But the Maine Blade Runners would welcome you into the club. There are a few female members already in the club. We are either the second largest or the largest private fishing club in Maine. We have a couple of open tournaments about half way down towards you this season.
  23. Very nice you lucky dog! I still have a few weeks to go till the ice goes out. However, my friend sent me a picture of one of my favorite lakes and its starting to open up around the edges.
  24. One last thing about the lake. The bass fishing would be a lot better there but the bass get pounded hard there through the ice. They kill numerous big bass there during ice fishing derbies. I also hear that some of local camp owners are trying to thin them out so that their beloved salmon and togue can do better@ : I don't believe that the largemouth affect the salmon and togue, they live in different parts of the lake.
