  1. Use as big a hook as you can get away with....thats my rule of thumb. with that being said, grab a package of of each size and throw them in the tackle box. Then you can just throw whatever hook in you need/want. I mainly use 3/0 hooks for my tubes, worms, etc for my smallmouth buddies, and a 4/0 hook for most of my soft plastics for largemouths. Extra big stuff or topwater I go 5/0.
  2. Loomis says he catches bigger bass the day or two after a full moon....I think it was on bass edge. He based that on less fishing pressure and some other factors that don't really apply to me up north where the water temp never gets warm enough to bother night fishing instead of day fishing haha.
  3. Only about 5 more months for my bass season opener. I might have to move.
  4. I like "hookin' up" It's starring Bob Izumi's neice or something........I don't even think there's much fishing in it. THe reasons why I like it are personal.... hahaha
  5. I think that the Berkley hollow belly is good, but only 3 for the price? My buddy was using a Yum money minnow and it was solid for him, more bait for the same price to.
  6. I am fortunate to have a girlfriend that will do some (casual) fishing with me. She always likes catching small ones, the smaller the better, she thinks they are the cute ones hahahaha, so my pictures of fish are me and 5 pounders, hers are pics of fish the size of her palm. She is a real good sport.
  7. Ohh! I got a smaller swimbait, but a wicked hook for it if you can upsize the hook. It's by Eagle Claw. It has a spear on it with barbs for the lure keeper, so it slides right in and stays in, always straight never twisted. Then it has a weight on the hook as well. It makes rigging way easier and straight everytime
  8. I think I got a VMC 5/0 hook EWG with a 3/16oz (1/8oz if not) weight on it, works great for shallow water. The speed of the retrieve and the weight balance each other out for a shallow run.
  9. typically I will toss the crankbait in more clear water (my lake is really clear). I found that if the water is calm and clear I have a hard time getting a spinnerbait bite as the fish sees it too good. As soon as the wind picks up and stirs/chops up the water and things are a bit hazy, I toss the spinnerbait. I like spinnerbaiting better, it is a hassle free lure. Sometimes I hang the crank up and it gets tiring. Both work great tho.
  10. white and chartreuse have caught me all my fish great pile you got there!
  11. in my FLW magazine, I can't remembe who, but he won the tourney using a couple lures, but his main one was fishing a football head jig with a baby brush hog as a trailer along a ledge....if it wins a pro tourny for him, I'm sure it'll work great I think I will try it to!
  12. maybe 2 or 3 in 5 hours....on a jig/pig and topwater buzzfrog. Georgian Bay. Up here in the north we have some big fish, but they aren't as common as you fellas down south.
  13. Sorry, I know it's over. I hope you did well! I catch largemouths flipping the bullrushes around the holland river, there is access to deep water. The banks are undercut from the passing boats.
  14. You will break it for sure dude! All the best.
  15. I was wondering about that duty stuff, it is such a big question mark haha. I am hoping the Bass Pro up here starts carrying the screamin' eagles....and I will be all over them at the fishing show, hopefully someone will be bringing them for me!
  16. zoom super chunk. I try to match it more or less to the jig, I'm not super picky, but just so it is close. My best jig is a brown and black with a brown zoom trailer.
  17. I'm sure it was just a fluke. I don't seem to loose fish once I got them hooked on a jig. Although one sticks out in my mind....it must've been a fluke for ya bro. A stiff weed guard and a big hook usually keeps it tough to throw. I'd maybe follow it up with a worm...I've followed up fish with a jig, followed by a jig and caught it haha. Keep fishing the jig it'll pay off.
  18. 50 foot cast aint bad I maybe have gotten it out 60 foot max. 50 is a solid average. Just from my mental imagery haha.
  19. Zoom super chunk, super hog, shaky worm, lizard are all awesome!
  20. I have had luck on the northland slurpie craw Yum's beaver version Bass Pro's flippin' craw. I think if you drop one of those in the face of a largemouth, they'll bite it. They have good action. I got the Zoom Super Hog for this year, wicked action.
  21. ya that is what I would do as well. I use tubes instead of a fat ika. I think a c-rig bounced up over the rip rap might not be too bad either.
  22. I like the advice from the local pro about the hot spots/techniques/lures thats going on OUR lake. I would even spend an extra dollar or 2 on line or whatever to help support his local business. Backwater Tackle
  23. Often when the backlash happens at the beginning of the cast, the brakes need to be tightened up. Make sure the spool drag is set good to Work on your thumb with the spool and practise.
  24. TW shipping costs are quite reasonable actually. you don't say.....I actually couldn't find their shipping fees. I was just assuming based on the others I found. Thanks! I will look more into that then.
