  1. hmmmmm.... I would maybe find a large flat (a future spawning flat) and back off of it until you find the first drop in depth. I would keep with the crankbait/jerkbait if possible and just slow try slowing down a bit more or a finesse worm or jig Good luck dude!
  2. I bought a David Fritts Rod from a fellow angler for $40 used and in good condition that was $110 on *** I believe....I like it. Might be worth putting it in your hands to see how it feels for you
  3. For some reason it is tough to keep people under the legal limit let alone releasing the trophy's and keeping the little ones.....Sure sounds easy enough but a lot of people just don't care, it is frustrating.
  4. I normally bonked them on the head with a hard wood mallet
  5. I prefer the sound of nature to the radio/music It is a nice escape and the lack of noise adds to the experience
  6. better be a solid MH or H 7foot + I'd make sure it has some tip to it or else casting with a broomstick will become frustrating!
  7. x2 I crank it tight when flipping/pitching on my baitcast reel I will change my drag depending on the line I'm using mainly (ie light drag breaking on a hookset I will soften the drag)
  8. i agree I have a hard time feeling like I move the bait (and penetrating the hook) on a big hook set with mono haha feels like I just stretch the elastic
  9. If you are part of a bass club, a lot of the guys are always looking to offload some of their old rods/reels. Sometimes they are sponsored by the rod/reel company and get good deals to begin with. And it is always nice doing business with people you know. I have found the amount of things you can buy from your buds in the club is crazy! Better selection than bass pro haha
  10. I have some older cork handles I should clean/seal I wonder if there is any way to maintain the eva foam handles (my new shimano flipping stick has the foam handle)???
  11. I tend to use EWG for tubes I have some Offset worm hooks that I use for worms (and senkos) I also use straight shank hooks for flipping/pitching craws/creatures I think the main difference is the offset point and therefore how it is held in the plastic? I feel that with the smaller EWG I miss some bites b/c the point and the keeper are lined up and not much space between...that's when I like switching to the offset worm hook. I will throw a big EWG or offset worm hook on big 10" worms, Im kinda undecided on that as both seem to work for me. For me its just how I feel my hook up ratio is with each hook/lure combo.
  12. I think you hijacked your own thread hahaha
  13. I break off flouro leaders with baitcasting gear. I go straight flouro or straight braid. However, I fish smallies on spinning gear I will go braid with a flouro leader (and gentle hook sets!)
  14. Another vote for the jig. Its just an awesome awesome lure. If you get good at jig fishing, you won't have a problem transferring your skills to any plastic meant for flipping. I love getting on a jig bite. I always start with a jig on my big rod and only change it if The mat is too thick and needs a plastic . Good luck dude!
  15. want to bring me?? safety in numbers and all haha I'm jealous, have a great/safe trip dude! Good luck catching the bass of a lifetime!
  16. That is fine as long the laws are being followed. Where I'm from "bucket fishermen" refers to those poaching (typically piling their fish into their white buckets). All of us that deer hunt ethically and legally would be livid with people setting up illegal traps and poaching deer. Same thing in my mind, poaching is poaching. Of course it is unfortunate that stereotypes (such as this one) gives those who are hungry and fishing legally for their dinner a bad reputation...
  17. I agree with everyone on the YZH I like to use braid as well on my big stick for jigs and punching plastics however I have been happy with fishing spinning gear on braid with a leader of YZH. I fish smallies in lakes with 20 foot water visibility and I can still cathc'em. The braid is minimal maintenance and lasts a long time b/c you are always just replacing the leader. With largies, I just fish straight braid. Anyways, give it all a try and choose whats most comfortable for you
  18. I like to flip them on a Texas rig and 5/16oz sinker Up in my part of the woods we drag them on a 1/2 oz jig around lake erie in the fall
  19. I agree with brushhoggin, I think they are similar to the zoom ultravibe/speed series And if thats the case, they have awesome action
  20. Nice stuff guys! I plan on getting some new trailer bearings.....haha boring I know, but needed!
  21. Just play with what works best for the typical lure you are using. My jig rod is set different than my other rods. If your line is backlashing at the beginning of your cast (jumping off the spool immediately) than turn some more breaks on. If the backlash happens towards the end of the cast, turn up your spool tension. That trick has helped me.
  22. Black friday is usually a good time I like then, or whenever the budget says I can afford to haha
  23. I like it weightless on a t-rig I just chuck it out or skip it and let it sink most the time. You can twitch it a bit like you are walking the dog and it reacts like a soft jerkbait. Thats how I like to throw it...no rule says you gotta do it that way maybe you can come up with something better and let me know! haha Good luck dude!
  24. I have one on a rod all the time. If I ever switch it is b/c I'm punching mats and need to go to a straight shank hook craw. Throw it in pads, brush, weeds, anywhere. Take a fishing trip and don't put down the jig rod. Once you get a few bites you will be hooked (is that a pun?) Be creative with it and have some fun!
