  1. 15# CXX or Maxima Mono are my favorites
  2. make sure you get a rod with a solid backbone and flex in the tip regardless of brand. I had a "broomstick" once which was great for hauling a bass out of cover but I couldn't cast a frog 20 feet. Dean Rojas I believe said in bassmaster interview he uses a solid MH for that reason.
  3. I had a good go with a Daiwa Procyon rod, you can get a 7'0 MH. They are 50 bones and were work horses for me.
  4. I use a basic net frame that has nothing fancy but is functional But I have the rubber basket on it and I really like that feature. It is supposed to be nicer to the fish, it seems to be with how slick it is. Its also nice b/c my crankbaits come outta it without tangling all up! haha
  5. I got some 5/0 worm hooks perfect for me, I like to throw my worms
  6. Nice win dude!
  7. I caught some on Yum's version of the beaver....they work I just flip or pitch them into heavy cover I like the dark colors b/c of the heavy color I'm fishing Netbait makes them for cheaper and their product is pretty solid to
  8. 7'0 MH baitcasting rig, flouro or mono I fish 2 types of worms in my mind: Horizontal and bouncers Speed worms or ultravibe worms I fish horizontal and with a light weight. I will cast this into weeds or pads and swim it over top of the grass. I bounce ribbon tails or paddle tails along them bottom usually with heavier weight in any depth of water. I'm usually looking for ledges or deeper grass for this presentation. I fish smaller worms in more shallow water, bigger worms in deep water. For example I may bounce a MAG II worm in 3 foot water, step it up to a 10" worm in 10 foot water or something like that. Both these methods work for me, it keeps things simple and worms plain out catch fish
  9. Whether people admit it or not, they have learned this lesson the hard way (me included...ie my post above). This thread will now do what is intended in this forum. Make somebody else a better angler! Or at least save them the embarrassment in their first tourney when they can't reel their senko back to the boat so that I...I mean some other dude haha....has to winch in his senko by hand! I was hoping I...I mean that other dude didn't catch a lunker that cast haha
  10. I started tying all different knots depending on line type....until I fell in love with the san diego jam. It is great for flouro, mono, and braid. The only thing I change is the wraps. For instance for heavy flouro maybe 3, for slick braid maybe 8+ etc. My "failures" went to 0 last season. I also acknowledge the fact that it comes down to whatever knot you tie the most proper
  11. I'm not sure if I "feel" the bite on a slack braid line....but I do see the braid jump or twitch and thats good for me! So I think that complicates the comparison of the slack line bite btw flouro and braid Personal preference I guess is what it will forever come down to. Best jig fisherman in my parts uses only braid...Denny fishes flouro...Hack fishes braid...I fish whatever I can afford (ie not flouro) hahaha
  12. x2 If you could get braid on that 7' rod then you could use jigs/frogs on it 6'6" with mono/flouro for all purpose (spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, whatever) Spinning rod for soft plastics Something like that?
  13. I just got a Revo Winch on a clearance sale price (the store didn't want it anymore, good for me b/c I wanted it!) I added a bit of lubrication to the thumb bar and it is loosening up a bit. But that is the ONLY thing I could imagine to complain about. The feel and retrieve is otherwise incomparable to a lot of other reels (in a good way) I'm normally a shimano guy but this was a top notch reel I couldn't turn down. I am glad I got it, it seems to be the right tool for the job! I bet you won't be disappointed with one either dude
  14. I done it on spinning gear before a tourny haha, I forgot to back and first cast I couldn't reel back in!
  15. senko zoom ultra-vibe craw zoom mag II worm
  16. yep they stink!
  17. Spinnerbait or crankbait I will always have a rod with each rigged....I will cover water with both until I get bit and start figuring what the bass want....I won't use a spinnerbait in clear calm water tho Fluke in really clear water or in grass/cover that is too heavy for the other two. I don't use this to cover water so much. I'll pick apart a productive area with this
  18. Those would be huge!! I'd be happy catching 16" bass! haha
  19. you guys rig it so the paddle/tail is parallel to the floor ?? I always have, does it kick side to side if rigged so the tail is perpendicular to the ground??? I was going to experiment
  20. Sounds like you got a nice combo bro!
  21. I should mention I use a leader for smallie fishing or finesse fishing (spinning gear) for largies...I don't break off, but I also don't use the same hookset as my jig rod. It's not that I think it's a knot failure issue but just a preference for straight braid on my jig rod. My opinion changes depending on the rig I fish mainly grass lakes and consistently find bass pitching with braid. I break off 20# fluoro to easy so I just go straight braid. Of course this is just all personal preference. Chris Lane just won the classic flipping/pitching with mono! haha
  22. Ya I figured he was kinda jk, just came across as a lame excuse the way he phrased it I won't hold it against Ish haha oh ya I saw that video when I was watching the tourney....that crappy merc just smoked that yamaha! I noticed different boats tho, I wonder how much a difference that makes to
  23. probably MH would do good You could go H but make sure you got some flex in the tip..especially if fishing with braid but for other lines to. I don't think you want a broomstick type H rod
