  1. Thanks for all the tips and help. I usually do have the schematics nearby and take pictures when I'm not sure. I apologize for not mentioning the reels. They're a shimano curado 201d and a shimano chronarch d7. You all have been very helpful. But, with taking off the levelwind do I take the E clip off first? And if so, what's the best way to?
  2. I'm looking to maintain a couple of reels. I've usually taken them apart and clean with rubbing alcohol and and oil and grease. This time I would like to complete tear down and give them a good cleaning before adding lube. Before doing that I need a little help with taking apart the levelwind worm gear. what's the best way to take out the worm gear for cleaning? Also would soaking the reel parts and bearing in alcohol or simple green be good enough?
  3. i would like a little info in regards to the revenge flip jigs. i understand they work great for brush and rocks. how does the jig handle in grass?
  4. thanks for the responses. im certain that they're both great reels. it's just at the store the chronarchs handle, when clicked over, didn't spend as long as the curado. i guess, i just wanted to justify the $100 difference...and didn't want to pay more for something that was similar.
  5. I've been taking a look at these two reels. What are the differences between the two, besides the price difference. I've handle both reel and the cheaper price curado seems to have a smoother and more free handle. I'd appricate any info. Thanks.
  6. thanks for everyones help. it does make more sense to use the rod then the reel for getting fish out of cover. it's just a habit of mines to use the reel instead of the rod. i'll take the ipt into consideration also. i mainly fish with plastics and lipless, just started fishing with jigs this year. i've read that a higher gear ratio or ipt would be better for the application, just wasnt sure with the torque of a higher ratio.
  7. i'm considering a new reel. i've been looking at some reels and they have high gear ratio, 7.1:1. i'm more of a 6.2 or 6.4:1...being that its in the middle and i can speed up or slow down when needed. anyways, to my understanding is, with high gear ratio you have less power or torque...that is to get fish out of cover. how much is lost with higher gear ratio, say compared to a 6.x:1 ratio?
  8. I'm in the same boat also... How does chronarch D hold up with casting light lure, beside the reels mentioned?
  9. kickstand thanks for the thought. but i'm more interested in the c3s and c4s. i'm not sure on the 4000 series, i'll have to check one out. i'll be planing to use the reel for catfish and stripers ever now and then. rooster sorry to hear about your reel, but i'll keep what you mentioned in mind when i do end up getting one and switching out the gears.
  10. thanks for the replays and help. the reel (5600 c4 elite) rooster mentioned seems like the reel i'm interested. did it come in a left hand model and are the gearing interchangeable to a 5:1 gear ratio? i was also wondering about one of the new abu reels and switching out the side plate to one with a bait clicker, but was wondering which way would be easier and cheaper to do?
  11. I'm interested in a abu round reel with a bait clicker. I know that the newer reels in the 6000s and up have bait clikers but i've also heard that some older smaller round reels were produced with bait clickers also...I was wondering if this was true? I've tried searching the web but came up with nothing. I'd appricate any help thanks in advance.
  12. i've read and heard the same thing to. i personaly like the metal piece that holds down the reel, to the rod. does the new and old have the same guides?
  13. i recently just purchased a used loomis imx rod. at first i was a little unsure of the rod. this is becuase i didin't know that g loomis had switched a couple of things on the original imx compared to the current imx's. my imx has a metal ring on the reel seat. i think its called a wiebie reel seat. anyways i was wondering what's the main difference between the newer and older imx's? it's my first higher end rod and i can say it's awsome, compared to anything ive ever used, even if it is a older model. ;D
  14. sounds like a great setup, good luck with it. ;D
  15. thanks for all the replies and advises, it was very helpful. i know its not ranked up there with the high priced reels, but i like it. besides it's caught lots of fishes for me and i also like to keep my gears running well and maintain. thanks again for the help ;D
  16. the reel is a abu garcia cardnial 101. it's never been fully cleaned since i've bought it last year. i ran into a little problem when i was taking it apart. the picture below is where the problem is. i'm unable to take off the plate with the abu logo on it, does anyone know how to go about this...please help and thanks in advance. :-/
  17. i have two clarus in the 6'6'', one with a curado, and they're great...IMO, light and sensitive for the price.
  18. check out this striper fishing story, that most fisherman would like to have. http://www.fresnobee.com/sports/outdoors/fishing/story/1396200.html
  19. i apologize, but how would i go about using the fish scale to test out my reel?
  20. thanks to everyone for the replys, i'll give them a try and see how everything turns out. ;D on a different note, does anyone know how i can test out my drag pressure. i want to see if my reel produces the 24# it's rated.
  21. no i'm not using braid and the reel was serviced locally. i'm assuming the drag had been greased...
  22. hi eveyone. i'm having a little problem with my revo. technically, its the drag on the reel. with the drag cranked all the way up, i'm still able to strip line off as if it's set on low. this happened after one use, and after being completely serviced. i'm at a lost here. any advice will be appreciated. thanks
  23. i do a little striper fishing every now and then. i was just wondering if anyone has a good suggestions for a good round baitcasting set up with a medium heavy two piece rod set up. i'd like the baitcast to have a bait clicker on it. maybe in the $100-120 range. cheaper would be even better, used or new...thanks
  24. thanks for the advises. with all the great review i've read on reel mech, i'm sure he will do a great job. i'ts just i've done some maintenance on my older curado but this is a new revo reel. i'll have to give it a little thought to see if i'm confident enough, to take it apart myself.
