  1. Welcome to the forums. I have been fishing the James a lot lately so, here's part of what I know. Finesse spinning gear, 8# line and Pop-r's in the morning, with weightless senkos, and small craws. Zoom Ultra Vibe speed craws do well for me. As for places, Brown's Island, Pony Pasture, Texas Beach and Hollywood Cemetery. My best success comes early in the mornings, like once the sun clears the tree line you're done. Gotta find a new place. Go exploring at those places listed above, you should run into some there. Hopes this helps, I usually go Sunday mornings before church let me know and we can meet up and I'll show you a couple of my spots on the James, Wdy
  2. Hello everyone, I am looking to replace my old Shimano Sedona with a higher speed spinning reel. My Shimano has been great, but at 5 to 1, yeah I have to catch up a lot to the lure. I am thinking about either reel mentioned in the title and looking for recommendations of people who have used them, or own both. Any help, opinions is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Wdy
  3. Ok, Sam and I will differ here. Southlake is good in my opinion. But, the fish are very picky! Plus, it's difficult b/c of all the slime on the bottom. I've caught a couple of really good ones out of there, biggest I think was 4 and some change. But, there is a lot of pressure, but mostly from worm drowning bomber fisherman. Also, Tackle Express has closed up. I know there is one idiot that goes there and catches about 20 bluegill and takes them home to eat. (Yeah, I would rather go hungry then eat a fish out of there.) Finesse tactics all the way and get a little luck, you're $$ there.
  4. It can be productive if the conditions are right. There is a guy on here that lives next to the lakes, he usually chimes in on these posts.
  5. ^ yeah, good point. My 50E is now a 7 to 1 with a 100mm Hawtech handle, bearings, and supertuned by DVT, but at the $$ I sunk into it, get a Curado 70, or something along those lines.
  6. Yeah, I have a 50E I modded and thought about selling it, but just cant. Those are great reels! That sounds like a good deal to me.
  7. What about the new EXO? I have two older ones and hanckering to view the new model. Love me my EXOs!
  8. Check the Flea market here. I know there are flipping sticks and fast reels you can get here.
  9. Go to the Lake off Southlake, down Midlothian. I fished that Walton park lake as well, seem to be little fish, also it is a fairly shallow lake.
  10. yeah, I used to fish that area and I know people would take a 9.9 hp engine cowling and up the carb making it like 15hp, and keeping that 9.9 cover.
  11. Anyone have any ideas for where and when to fish? It would be great to others input to make sure this event is enjoyable by all.
  12. Quit fishing and send your stuff up to me here in VA Josh.
  13. With a TS 808 out front, yes, yes she does. Think Allman brothers sustain with SRV tone.
  14. I popped a 5 out of there a couple of years ago. Gambler EZ swimmer, bass colored, top lake, way in the back on my buddies jon-boat. I think the fish have made a great come back since the d**n broke. I would go with the top lake, the bottom one looks nice, but with so much brush in the water, you are going to get caught, lose lures, or not catch anything. I love the lakes there, but never caught anything out of the lower one. Post how you did will you.
  15. Yeah, I dont have a Tournament G, but knowing Lew's it is going to be good. I do have a Tournament Lite SS, great little reel. I would recommend getting a Lew's with the ACB casting control sytsem on it. That is the BEST CASTING SYSTEM I have ever used. Much better then my 6 pin Cuardo 200E's Shop around, the guys are right, deals are everywhere on the internet for these reels.
  16. I have a Hamer with Lindy Fralin "Undbuckers," coil tapped 8k & 9k pickups.
  17. Ok, well I can help you out with both cases. I also have the Lew's tournament Lite reel. great little reel, it casts are on par with the length I got on my Exo. Also, search in here for "EXO 100pt" or something close, there was another thread started by someone asking how are the EXOs. The upper End Quantum's seam to do well, but for me, I noticed one or two more adjustments had to be made to them to understand the ACS III cast system (fine tuning, Confidence casts). One thing I will say, I really, really like about the EXO is the ergonomics of it, holding of the reel, the handle, just very, very comfortable for me. For instance, the one knock I have against the Lew's reel I mentioned above is the standard length, 85mm. So, I bought the Lew's 95mm carbon fiber handle. The Lew's handle is a little more "angular," then the Quantum one, and it just feels "mechanical," in my hand compare to the Quantum one that is more fluid in my hand. That's kind of weird probably to read, and try and think what I mean by it, but the Lew's with the 95mm handle just does not feel as connected to me as the Quantum. For guitars, I have a couple of Fenders, Am. Tele and Standard Strat. I have one or two acoustics, but the action on the electrics are lower then acoustics so, that helps me out. Hope that helps!
  18. The EXO is the better one, the casting controls on the EXO have a better range. I also feel the EXO can reach greater casting distances.
  19. Gulf is the best to answer that question, but I know the 200 7.3 to 1 IPT is on par with an 8 to 1 IPT reel.
  20. Yeah, I endorse the sentiment on the EXO's so far. I have two, 100 sizes and LOVE THEM! I did not pay the $250 for them so, yes, you are on the right track keep looking around. I believe Quantum is coming our with a Rev. 2 of them soon so, the prices of current ones should drop. The first couple of casts when you are starting out with the reels can be a little tricky. The bearings spin up a lot faster then most reels. Put the indicator about half way (in the side plate of the reel) and about 1/2 on the tension knob. After a couple of confidence casts start playing. Put a 1/2oz rattle trap on it and enjoy. (Yes, Cabela's had them for $99 on Black Friday, I think they are all gone though.) I dont know anything about the new Curado 70's, it's a Curado, I am sure it will be good.
  21. you should buy more of those KVDs.
  22. (^ the EXO is alive and well you sold me!!!)
  23. I think he would be fine. Yes, fish will float when dead so, if you dont see him for a couple of days, he's good. That's one thing I do when releasing. I make sure I drop him into the water, from say about 6". I heard, or saw on a TV show, that if you do that, it kind of shocks the fish out of it's phase and he just swims off. From the ones that I drop as opposed to ones I hold the lip and swim back and forth a little. The ones I drop into the water ALWAYS swim off like a rocket after being released. I hope that means they are better to survive.
  24. I thought the England Made reels were worth something. I had a CFO 123 made in England once, sold it 10 years after I bought it for what I originally paid for it.
