  1. I have this rod and find it ok, not my best contact rod. Yes, it is stupid light, but my Powell's are better for contact lures. Too be honest, I find this rod for me for small square bill crankbaits.
  2. I suggest taking a look at the Powell 3D Max 723C or a Cashion rod. I have a Powell Endurance 723 (last generation rod) and it is outstanding for bottom contact baits.
  3. Powell's are usually a little bit heavier (weight speaking) then most rods, but the hook setting power I find to be more in Powell rods. Just my opinion though. you're not going to go wrong with a Powell 3D-max though. PS, there was a screaming deal on the Flea Market for a Shimano FG 2500 a little while ago. Not sure it it's still there. But, that should be lighter then 10 oz. Good luck!
  4. They are great rods! I have 4 Powell Endurance rods and the 734C 3D-Max rod for topwater and squarebills.
  5. I did the same swap with my 50E through DVT. It was a great modification!!
  6. Thanks for the responses everyone. I will probably pick up a Tat CT Type-R to increase my allotment. I do like the 9 to 1 gear ratio, but maybe it is me however I think it is so fast that when I use it for a senko or fluke fishing it just seems too fast for me.
  7. Good Afternoon everyone, I am looking for some advice. I currently have a Revo Rocket for flipping, but to me that thing is just too fast! So, I am debating about selling it off and buying a Diawa Tatula Type-R and upgrading the bearings (and worm shaft worms, if I remember correctly, the original Type-R had a plastic sleeve on the worm shaft). I have used the old, generation one Tat at my local tackle store with a casting weight on it, just flipping for practice and it made flipping very easy. So, people how have the Rocket, do you also have a Tatula Type- R, and pros and cons of each. Also, the Diawa fanboy club, what would be the best upgrades to enhance the reels performance? Thanks for your time in reading and responding to my post, Wdy
  8. yeah, I also think it has to do with intended use of the rod. I have multiple Powell Endurance rods and to me, generally, they are heavier then their rates. But, my squarebill rod and my senko have the same ratings, (as I remember), but I have a lot more faith in overloading my senko road then my squarebill rod. Good question.
  9. The Pro-G should be awesome. I have the Tournament Lite, discontinued from a year ago. I added the 95-mm carbon fiber handle to it, but that 6-pin ACB centrifugal braking system on the G (and the Tournament Lite) is phenomenal. You're not going to go wrong with any of the Lew's you mentioned, just a matter of preference.
  10. Claytor is tough! Crystal clear water, I would definitely go finesse with fluorocarbon lines.
  11. I have a Lew's Tournament Lite and Quantum EXO and can kind of understand what you're saying. The with the different materials on the Lew's side plate compared to an Aluminum sideplated reel, yeah I agree. But, my Lew's and EXO have done well for me. So, IMO I think it is a feel thing and confidence thing vs. actually how the reel will last, or perform.
  12. I know there are some bass in that lake next to BPS. Also, when spring comes, try renting a Jon-boat from Mariner's Muesum, granted, if they still rent them. There are some healthy bass in there! I'm pretty familiar with Newport News park, tough place to get a bite, but when you do, it will be worth it.
  13. Rod: Powell Endurance 723C Reel: Quantum EXO HPT
  14. Post that picture of that nice bass you caught Sam.
  15. We will get them tomorrow Sam.
  16. Lol, no, he bought them at $60/piece, after the election I offered to buy one at $50, hahaha!
  17. Powell all the way. I have 5 of them and do not wish, or want to own any other rod from a different company.
  18. I have gone through two Supreme XT's. So, I can see a lot of people will not agree with this response, but mine just flat broke. They were great reels when they worked, but I barely used them. If you are set on one, go for it, they are light comfortable and will cast a long way. The Pure Fishing customer service was great for me so you should be taken care of there. Wdy
  19. Thanks for the input everyone. I have not bought one yet. One of my roomates is a HUGE gun person and went out and bought a bakers dozen lower AR-15's before the election so, I might get one from him. But, if I did buy one (whole/completed gun) now it would have gone on the credit card and that was the last thing I want. Also, yes, the 5.56 bullet/barrel is now what I am leaning to. Thanks again! Wdy
  20. Have you looked to see if you can find and EXO for that $100 price?
  21. I dont have a 70, but the one thing I like the 50e has is the lower gear ratio (6.4 to 1). I used mine for a lot of squarebills and senkos and I just caught more fish with it, like a lot more. Then, I increased it to 7 to 1 for flipping and just not the production. Now it's not all related to the gear ratio alone, I know that, but 6.x to 1 is a ratio that fishes better for me. Not sure y. I dont think you can go wrong with either, it's a Shimano.
  22. There are some good fish in Southlake! I've popped a couple of 3 lbers. Black and blue senko to the right of the "land penninsula," just left of the really shallow cove. If you need more directions message me. "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure," Air Guitar Solo!!!!
  23. Hey everyone, I am thinking about acquiring an AR before the election and looking for opinions on either AR mentioned above. Does anyone have either, or can share pro's & cons with either? The first, and well only thing I notice off the bat as in the difference is the barrel length is shorter on the Spike's by 1.5". I am looking to be accurate at about 250 yards, certainly I want to be dead on from 100 yards in. Any opinions is greatly appreciated! Thank you, Wdy
  24. I read a little about it, not having my hands one, but I think the G series just has a longer handle. I also have a Tournament Lite SS, great reel, but the 85mm handle was replaced quickly when I got the reel.
