  1. Great finish!
  2. The live broadcast link is working for you guys? It will not on Firefox or Chrome for me. Here is where I am going: https://www.bassmaster.com/video/bassmaster-classic-live-2017
  3. I think it will be all over. My wife has never been to NY state and she has the typical idea the state of NY will be all city. I have been up there a couple of times and would like to show her differently. I talked to DVT tonight and he recommended Hancock and upper Delaware, but from there we will go west to Cooperstown, Ithaca, Finger lakes, etc. (Plus, I imagine DVT will want a reload of some flies I tied for him a year or so ago so I will catch up with him.) Thanks for the offer to help, Wdy
  4. Hey everyone, I wanted to ask you guys for some advice. My wife and I are planning a vacation to New York state the second week in July and I wanted to do a day float fly fishing trip, while she wants to do some spa day. Since she is not writing this post, I want to get recommendations for location and possible guides up there I should check in out that could fore fill my needs. Any help is greatly appreciated! (I know this is not for awhile off, but I am a planner and dont really care what websites say, only the people that live in the area say.) Thanks, Wdy
  5. SoFlo, Welcome to the forums! And Congrats on attending Macon (I assume that is your college). But, some quick places to look for, Echo Lake (down 295, off Staples Mill), and probably run to Pony Pasture, or Huguenot Park (down 95 S to Chippenham through the city to Cary St. and take that to across the Huguenot Bridge there just up river from the bridge, that might be a stretch. Since you're from So Florida I assume you have bigger heavier rods say for flipping. VA has a lot of finesse fishing tatics employed for bass. But, to help you out, green pumpkin is one of the most successful colors around here. If you have a spinning rod, definitely get out on the James and wade for smallies when the James warms up. Also, go to Green Top, they know their stuff and have a HUGE selection. Hope that helps! Wdy
  6. Yeah, it can be tough. But, if they bite you can mop up there! I am only saying that Rapala yellow perch jerkbait was my best producing lure there. I would much prefer to catch them on senko type baits. However, finding them in the middle of the day is just impossible. I fished one time off the boat dock @ Lee Hall (I dont have a kayak or anything, I was across the street from the ranger station). One guy showed up with a watermelon senko, cast for 30 minutes in one specific hole and caught three. It was really impressive to watch.
  7. I'm not sure if that is true for say lakes or LMB, but the smallies in the James River behind James River High School, yes. It really is an incredible display to see early in the mornings. I know a lot of people state there are not any fish in that part of the river, but they are wrong. The problem is reaching them from the shore. Wdy
  8. Luna, I might be moving back down to NN, I have a house down there I can't sell plus I am out of a job (engineering). Sam, Got out to Robious Landing Park about 30-45 minutes before sunrise and you will see a topwater display as you will never see anywhere else!
  9. Sam, These fish are way out there in the middle of the channel. Plus, I have caught one with a canoe putting in right in front of me. Lets get your boat out there one early Saturday morning and you will see what I am talking about before I sell off my bass gear. It really is impressive!
  10. Casting = Quantum Exo 100 HPT Spinning = Shimano 2500 Symetry
  11. I went to the river yesterday, fly fishing from a pier. I saw them, but they were out of my reach. That will change next time because I'm taking my casting rod/reel then. Great catches! Good to see the bass are starting to show up. I guess the groundhog was wrong this year. I'm ok with that.
  12. ^ YEP! Rapala Yellow Perch jerkbaits do well at NN res.
  13. Luna, was that Newport News Res? Great place to fish, difficult to figure out until you do and it will rain bass.
  14. Yeah, I still have my 200 E5, 50E, and will use them every once in awhile. I just passed an engineering test and see that Diawa Zillion SV TWS calling my name, she purtttyyy!!!
  15. I have 4 Powell Endurance rods, and one 3-D Max. Great rods, tremendous hook setting power!
  16. Yeah, I am loaded on what I need. Nothing really jumped out at me either on this BPS flyer.
  17. Not Rick, Welcome to the forums. This subject has been talked about a few times before. Please use the "Search Forum," box to find other threads similar to this. (Top right, about 1 o'clock on the page of the "Rods, Reels, and Line" Forum.) You will get to see what more people say about your question. Some people have been on this site asking questions at almost a "spamming," like pace. I hope you're not put off by some of the response so far, this is a great community with a ton of knowledge that can be gained. As far as your question, which reel feels best in your hands? I own neither, but know there are many fans of both reels on here so, you probably will not go wrong with either choice, therefore it will be personal preference. Good luck, Wdy
  18. yes, the pistol grip or skeletal reel seat is only a small difference, but I noticed it quick because I always, always use my Endurance 723.
  19. I own the 3-D Max 734, great rod! I mainly use it for topwater and squarebills. But, I also the Powell 723 Endurance for weightless senkos. There is a difference that I am not crazy between the 3-D Max's and Endurances. That is the pistol grip. On the Endurance it is through to the rod blank, not that on the 3-D Max.
  20. Thanks, Sam knows my story the best and for clarity on his remark, Paper moon is a gentleman's club. I cant consult from home and yes I am linked up with a prommoinate (engineer's stink at spelling) networking group here in Richmond, VA so, my resumes are getting out there, but because of the disconnect in work years and my background (work experiences) I doubt many engineering firms will be wanting to take on an engineer like me.
  21. Hey everyone, I am looking to pick your brains here. I have been on disability for about 3 years now (various heart related issues and surgeries), looking to get off of it and head back into the work force. I have a Mechanical Engineering degree, but do not think I will be heading back into that field. I had a seizure on 8/14 and in Virginia when you have a seizure for an unknown reason you lose your drivers license for six-months. So, that has been the latest hurdle I have had to overcome. (well, I get it back on 2/14.) So, what do you think about direction of careers I should look into? I can't stand too long, so working at a tackle store is kind of out. I just dont know where or what ex-engineers do, it's kind of the only thing I know. Any opinions are welcome. Thanks for the input.
  22. I have two EXO's and love them. But, Quantum's, IMHO, seem to be an acquired test. Meaning, the bearings in the EXO spin up really, really fast! So, backlashes can and will happen, and if you get one, chances are it's going to be a nasty one and you're done. But, if you can learn the reel, it will cast a long way!! But, it's your reel so, if you dont like it, you probably will not use it to fish and going fishing is the most important thing.
  23. Another one to the RVA crowd here! Welcome!!!
  24. DP82, When I was practicing with the Tatula I think the TWS gave me more confidence to be precise and accurate with each cast. I seriously picked it up and one practice flip told me everything I needed to know. After that, it was a constant 10'-15' no problem at all. (there was a casting weight at the end of the line, not sure the weight).
  25. I would try a Tatula 8 to 1, or Abu Garcia Revo Rocket. I have the Rocket and man, she is fast!!! Once you get good with that combo you will flip and pitch so fast you will be machine like. I do not own a Tat, but have practiced pitching and flipping with one in a local tackle store and it was easy with the TWS line guide system.
