  1. All places above are where I would go. I graduated from VT and familiar with the area. McCoy is great, although access is limited from when I was at VT. What about that little pond in the nature park just west of Blacksburg on 460W?
  2. I’m not passing that test first time out. Plus, she fell last night on her knee she had the ACL surgery. (Clumsy wife)
  3. Firetiger crankbaits, or chartreuse spinnerbaits.
  4. If you’re willing to make a small run. Newport News Park, about mile marker 250 on 64 east. Loaded!
  5. I have been out of work for about three-years mostly do to health issues. I have been picking up contract jobs here and there, but hoping the PE will put me over the top to help me get full-time employment. Thank you, Wdy
  6. I’m taking the PE in April. Have you taken it? Any tips, hints are certainly appreciated. Wdy
  7. Hey everyone, I was just curious if there any Mechanical Engineers in here? Thank you, Wdy
  8. Pline, Berkely lines, Sniper. It all works for me.
  9. My father died in April and he always used them. Needless to say I picked up several from him including one still in the original Mann's packaging!
  10. The braking system may take a little getting used to. Those PT bearings spin up fast. Report back once you get some time with it and let us know what you think. I am thinking about getting one as well. Wdy
  11. I love my EXOs! No problems at all with them. The only thing I noticed is my EXOs consume oil, but I’m ok with that.
  12. I have not caught anything on them, but that is basically do to lack of time with them. I think they look great and should do very well! Thanks for the reminder, I have a couple of packs of them hiding in my tackle boxes. Wdy
  13. I will not be able to make it Sam. Let me know what you see that ends up being good. I would love to see the G-man!
  14. Has anyone gotten their hands on one to test? thank you for your opinion Wdy
  15. All of those reels should be fine for distance. I would suggest going to a longer rod vs. looking for extra distance from a higher performing reels. I see this as a physics issue vs. mechanics of a reel. Moment = Fulcrum arm (length), x Load. (Fulcrum arm being the length of the rod, and load being the lure weight.) If you are using a 7'-2" and could go to a 7'-6" yeah, you're going to throw farther. What about spool capacity? I assume you are filling your reels all the way up. I read and agreed with several points, but I would go the route of longer rod. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
  16. yes, and love fly fishing for shallow water/sight fishing.
  17. Hey, I am sure others will be along to give their opinions. First, I would look at the Finger lakes in Suffolk. You can fish from the bank, but you have to pay $$ to enter the park. Second, Mt. Trashmore lake is a waste of time from what I have been told. Also, go with shad colored crankbaits for bass and pike/chain pickerel down there. Also, black & blue in the winter. Good luck, Wdy
  18. G, What type of gear do you have? The reason I ask is I lived in Louisiana for 2 years and (to me) fishing in the southern states and Virginia are almost night and day different. Meaning, 10# line up here is the 15# line down there. A fair amount more pressure up here also. But, the good news, when a cold front hits VA it does not shut the fish down. You still can catch bass up here in the cold fronts.
  19. Sounds like a plan. You're a hop, skip, and jump from me. I'm down by Chesterfield County airport.
  20. Hey 68, Sam just called me and while I have not read all of this thread yet. I know there are some fish in there! Give me a minute to look at the maps and I'll share what I know. Also, what part of Chesterfield are you in 68? wdy Okie dokie, First, there are bass in Swan Lake. About mid-September I went out there with my wife for a break and ended up talking for a local angler there. How showed me numerous pictures of 5's, 6's, and even an 8 coming out of there. (The background of his pictures matched so, I know he was telling the truth.) About 5 minutes of talking he walked off he went back to fishing. Then, he called me over to show me a 4 cruising the shallows. I think he said he did a lot of damage on spinnerbaits and senkos (he had a red & black one tied on) there. But, the lake is in the city, it has some trash in it, and most people go there to exercise, picnic, feed all the thousands of Canadian geese, i.e. no pressure. Personally, I would use a chatterbait in a nature color. Skip Fountain & Shields lakes, nothing but wasted time is in there. Shoot me a PM if you want to meet up, maybe we could drag Sam out as well. Wdy
  21. Good to hear Quantum doing it right! I love my EXO's and Smoke! I think a lot of people are thrown off by the bearings first couple of times casting. But, they cast very far! Wdy
  22. Justin, yes send me a message with your email address please as Sam said. He, Sean is really the guy to talk to, in fact from what it sounds like you guys might actually be fishing the same water. He lives in VA beach and his backyard ends to a lake that is private. Also, from what he says, it is crazy clear. Sean is not on here much, working, going to engineering school at nights, and his wife is having health issues. But, I can send him an email and let him know you are requesting some information. Dont worry, we will get this figured out for you. Fishing down in that area can be difficult, but once you got it, yeah........(just saying.) (There are two main problems there, the color of lures seem to play a more important role in VA beach, and the fishing pressure can be ridiculous.) Wdy
  23. Jy, I think you hit a good day. Granted, I love the Tye, but have not fished it in awhile. I believe what drove me away was all the land owners starting to put up No Trespassing signs. But, I know exactly that hole you are talking about. Glad you knocked them out that day! Wdy
