  1. I should have an idea of where this is being in VA as well, but I do not.
  2. ^ What he said. Right on the $$. The biggest problem you are going to face, well I think all of us fly fisherman is line management. Learn to pay attention to where, or much line you have out. Especially if you start fishing on a river! Bluegills can be a lot of fun. I wouldn't use a fly smaller then a size 10 for them. They can really suck a fly down if that want it enough. Fly fishing for bluegills is pretty basic, find shaded shallow water, or throw against a bush in the water. Also, since you got an Orvis package you have the braided loop at the end of the fly line. If you are forced to buy a straight end leader, just make a loop through the butt of the leader and you're set to go!
  3. Well, it's talked about on Tackle Tour. Looks like 3 reels at different price points and WOW they are heavy! http://www.tackletour.com/previewcarrotstixspectrareel.html
  4. Because they work.
  5. He was the man! The Miracle Boy!, RIP Sir.
  6. I wanted to ask if anyone in here is using Python? I just started taking a class on it and have no clue what is going on. I have got v3.3.2 64 bit on my PC and just starting to kick it around. Thanks, Wdy
  7. Yes, thank you. I'm getting to use a lake house out there in late April, early May (for a weeks use) and was wondering how the fishing was. Thanks for the report, great catches!
  8. Expensive hobbies, yeah, I play guitar, love cars, tying flies, and am married. So, no $$ for this guy! Bait Monkey is part of the dark side, but the part that lets you have cool stuff!
  9. Yep, DVT is 100% right! He did a deep polish on my 200e5 & e7 and I could really reach some distance! Boca Bearings are great, but I think a good deep cleaning by DVT is sufficent. The one benefit I did notice with my 50E that I had Bocas put into was precision of flipping. I could repeatedly hit the same target with a lot more confidence.
  10. 4" weightless senko in the summer and Zoom Green Pumpkin Speed Craw, some luck with flukes as well. has anyone used a Gambler BB cricket for smallies?
  11. Yeah, you are not going to go wrong with a Curado. But, if you are open to other suggestions, look at Lew's. But, for that $$ you are taking about spending, stick with a name brand, go with a reel that has the features you want and feels good on your Loomis. You'll be fine with whatever you go with. PS, since it is your first casting reel, I would recommend say 12 mono, and spool your reel up to about 80% capacity. Mono is not as expensive so, if you do birds nest it, not that much $$ lost. Also, reels seem to be more forgiving with lesser (not at max capacity) when getting familiar with a new reel.
  12. I just started using a Powell 3D 734, so far it seems to be a great squarebill rod. 7'-3" 1/4oz.-1oz. a lot of backbone in it!
  13. I went out yesterday for a little bit to Echo lake, but the lake still had ice on it at some parts. (No bites, using a Chili Craw KVD 1.5) I'm waiting for warmer constant weather, I always get excited too early and therefore get frustrated not to fish when it is the best.
  14. Yeah, but I know Sam and this happens every year after the RVA Fishing expo. He's only joking if you believe him.
  15. ^ This guy has the right idea. I can cast to the limit of my hook setting range/power of my Powell Endurance rods so that is all I need. To me the rest of this is just a "Urinating," match. Reels would be designed a lot different if max distance was the only thing in bass fishing.
  16. Yeah, out of those three you listed pick up the Curado. If you're open for suggestions look at Lews. Good luck!
  17. ^ Yes it is. I think we have about 14" of snow up here. Lots of wind as well!
  18. Yep, you are correct Darren. I thought there would be some.
  19. Hey everyone, I just read a story on CNN.com that closing Walmarts maybe selling things at up 50% off. The list of closing stores is in a link in the story below. None are near me, but cheap hooks, KVD 1.5s, and other tackle. Pashing along what I read. I hope some of you guys can take advantage of this. Wdy Link to story with link to closing stores in this story. http://money.cnn.com/2016/01/22/news/world/walmart-store-closings/index.html
  20. Yep, 12"-18" of snow here in Central VA area. Well, I am on the North West side of the city.
  21. Fail i wonder if these reels will cause a rod breakage when you set the hook.
  22. Also, I recommend Greentop Sporting Goods for your local tackle needs. BPS is up there as well, but Greentop has some lures that are not main stream.
  23. Welcome! I think there was a fish kill in Rooty lake. Also, look up Echo lake. It's tough, but are some healthy fish in there. Green pumpkin plastics, plus it's a fairly shallow lake so. We will talk more. There is a good central VA contingent in here so welcome again!
  24. I got stung Saturday by Bait Monkey. Ugh, i had been doing well to fight him off! Anyhow, a local fishing expo had a Powell rep there with buy one Powell 3D Max @15% off and get a Disel rod and Powell hoodie for free. Ugh,
  25. I'm a Powell rod loyalist so, I cant give an opinion on the other brands. But, I just picked up a Powell 3D Max 734 Saturday. It is supposed to be their Spinnerbait, C-rig, Topwater rod, and I think that one would do fine for chatterbaits. So, that 7' Medium Mod Fast tip Powell might be able to fit your need.
