  1. Great Photo, avid. And if they make any further sequels to "The Fly" you're assured a place in the casting call.
  2. I watched a show on the National Geographic Channel where they caught one of these. They stretch a heavy duty net completely across the river and wait until one hangs up in it. Getting it to the bank is the hard part. I think the one on the show was 9 feet. (Maybe it was this one in your picture.) They have a big long wooden contraption that they have built and they tie each end of the fish to the contraption and then they pull it out of the water. It took quite a few people standing chest deep in the water to do this and the show stated that the possibility of injury was great with a giant 9 foot fish thrashing its tail and body.
  3. When it comes to rocky bottoms, is there any bottom that is too rocky to bump your crankbait against due to hangups? If so, where do you draw the line.
  4. Intellicast.com and Weather.com.
  5. If you get the job, make sure you tell all of us Metro KC boys and girls so we can come by and take advantage. You did say something about discounts for BassResource.com members? Didn't you? I could have sworn . . . . . :
  6. Good luck, Huskertko! However, if you get this job and become one of the agents of corruption for the Bait Monkey, we will no longer be able to trust you. I assume this is the store in Olathe? I drive by it on my way home from work in Gardner. Soon, I'll be moving to the Sprint Campus so I won't be driving by there at that time. Hopefully, this will help me deal with the temptation.
  7. Great explanation, Glenn. When I agreed that an explanation was appropriate, I was thinking more along the lines of "From a business perspective, this is not feasible at this time." I don't think you should have to explain the technical details to everyone on the site, but thanks anyway.
  8. That 2 lb 15 oz is a fatty. Sounds like you and your Dad had a great day, fourbizzle.
  9. What kind of rod are you using? Some mediums can be on the lighter side of the action spectrum. Are you making long casts with monofilament? The combination of a lighter medium action rod and long casts with stretchy monofilament could all be contributors to your problem.
  10. That's cool, ww2farmer. I'm happy for you.
  11. Yes, the walking the dog lures are great for largemouth bass.
  12. Shad_Master, I agree with you that a response to your question from someone "in charge" would have been appropriate.
  13. I agree. This is an intriguing question. I use Rogues, Husky Jerks, and X-Raps the most but the Pointers are coming. I've noticed the differences in action of these lures, but I've never thought about which would be best for colder water.
  14. I'm not a moderator but I see the wisdom in the way this site is run. A free forum is always the best idea. There are plenty of members and guests who frequent this forum. The vendors know this, so Glenn can make revenues from their advertising. These two work hand in hand. You get more hits on the site and the forum since it is free, which draws more advertising dollars. And the vendors can pay more than any member fees would ever generate. Changing colors? I've thought about that, but I've noticed that everyone who knows me and observes my monitor recognizes this site from all the other sites I look at. ("Oh, you're on that bass fishing site again?") The colors tip them off. It's a good business decision to have colors that make you stand out from the crowd. As for the other suggestions I've seen here, I like some of them too, but time and money rules when you're trying to make a living.
  15. Speak for yourself, Paparock. I am not human, but I do notice that you earthlings do have flaws. Understand that it is this way on my planet as well. I was just considering buying a Lemar Ultra Death Ray for hunting the Mammoth Trogloditian Tigerdog, and my wife told me I shouldn't be so selfish spending all of this money on myself. Go figure. We'll see if she changes her tune the next time she faces one of these loathsome creatures with her nuclear powered spinning needles.
  16. I agree with what you're saying Chris. The spinnerbait is truly one of the most versatile baits in your arsenal and can be fished slow, fast, like a jig, like a crankbait, helicoptered, waking across the surface, etc. Read up on when to use willowleaf, Colorado, and Indiana blades, which blade colors to use in murky or clearer water, how to tune the bait to veer left, right, or go straight, and how the length of the arm affects the bait. Then practice. I do agree with RW, that if you're fishing a highly pressured lake and everyone is using a spinnerbait, something different might be in order.
  17. Like fivebasslimit, I need to work with tubes. I've used them a little bit, but I always go back to plastic worms and creatures. I also plan on working with the drop shot rig a lot more.
  18. I've been a big Zara Spook man for years. Over the last year or so, I've started to try out other walk the dog lures, because I've had great success with the Spook. I guess I've kind of been stuck in the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" groove.
  19. I disagree but then again, I am somewhat biased when it comes to Albert. Have you heard how Albert practices? I hear he is extremely intense with his concentration in batting practice. I think Albert would handle the pressure better than ARod. I guess we'll never know until he is in New York, which I hope never happens.
  20. Good points from Catt and the others who have shown some understanding for this rule. If you work for an organization and they are the ones providing you with a paycheck, they are going to tell you what you have to do in exchange for that paycheck, within reason. It is that simple. Also, look at the NFL, Major League Baseball, etc. Athletes aren't allowed to bash referees and officials of the league. If you become a member of any organization you are subject to that organization's rules. If the rules are too big of an issue for you, then you leave that organization.
  21. It has been stated many times on this forum before that the most important thing is location, location, location. Once you locate bass, based on the structure/cover they are relating to, the water temperature, the weather, and the seasonal pattern that should be in play, you narrow down your lure selection to the few that should work under those conditions. Of the lures that I narrow my selection down to I tend to start with the ones that will work best as search baits and then work down to the slower more subtle baits. I know these are general statements, but if you're fishing where the fish aren't you won't get any bites. And nboucher made a good point as well. When the water gets really cold, there are some days when getting one bite is an accomplishment.
  22. Good story, RW. Those drum can pull pretty hard.
  23. I like small Mom and Pop stores. I also realize that none of us would have the standard of living we now enjoy if small operations had not become big corporations. I realize that corporations like Wal Mart have some problems they need to address, but they also provide some benefits to society. If you look at the facts you can't paint big business with one broad stroke as either completely bad or good. They are both. Comparing BPS to Wal Mart is a big leap. Go to BPS.com and click on their store locations link. They have 35 - 40 stores now with 20 - 25 future stores planned. That's no Wal Mart.
  24. I agree K_Mac. I think we often forget that Albert is still only 26 years old. He's just a pup and he's handling probably the most successful first six years of a baseball career in a mature fashion for the most part. Like any young person, he sometimes doesn't think before he speaks. Heck, I'm 46, and I often don't think before I speak.
  25. Twelve to fourteen inch crappie are good solid fish where I come from. Around here, there are occasional seventeen and eighteen inch crappie and they usually weight more than 3 lbs. I haven't had the privilege of catching one of these monsters yet.
