  1. This is gonna sound crazy, but add 2 trailer hooks and speed up your retrieve. This is a trick that Randall taught me and will kill them in the fall. Here is an article that I did with GON magazine about it...... http://www.gon.com/article.php?id=1758&cid=117
  2. Prayers sent Frogtog.
  3. I don't know the construction of the Red Eye Shad, but I know with the original Rat-L-Trap, you drilled a hole in the bottom right in the middle of the two hook hangers. Either take the lead shot out, or fill with glue.
  4. I'm a huge cigar fan. My ex-gf's dad gave me a nice humidor to start with and I'm slowly building my collection. I love to try a new one every time, but so far I know I like the Connecticut shades. My two favorites so far are the Gran Habano #1 and the classic Romeo y Juliet. I just bought my first triple flame torch and I just recently was given a cutter signed by Rocky Patel. VaTech, any suggestions for new one's to try?
  5. Those are tight. I'm definitely going to be ordering these for my new rig 8-) Thanks for sharing Ring Fry ;D
  6. I fish flukes all year in water with 6-10ft visibility and I like the alternate between smokey joe and baby bass. I know most people think color doesn't make a difference, but when you have every part of your presentation correct, color can make a huge difference. Good luck man
  7. Man what a bummer! Next time get your drag set right before you head out to that honey hole. The good thing is you got her to bite, so that means you can do it again.
  8. DockMaster, rather than sounding rude in your reply, how about providing a link for him to the other thread so he can get the answers on the hooks that he is looking for. Bassin, I would get the link for you, but I didn't even know that this question has been asked. BTW, I haven't seen them yet but $10 seems mighty steep for hooks.
  9. Burley, I had a boater at Lake West Point ask if I could hold him by his wrists so he could hang his @ss off the side of the boat and drop a deuce. I just laughed, but he was dead serious.
  10. Using braid helps tremendously. Give it small pops rather than a longer pull like a spook style bait. I like trimming the legs up pretty short just to make the bait a bit more compact. It doesn't seem to effect the walking part, but I just have more confidence that the fish will eat it better with shorter legs. I usually leave about an inch for the legs. When you get good at the walking, you can basically keep the frog in place and have it moving like crazy. Good luck
  11. Probably the truest thing I have ever seen on this forum. Aaron is an incredible angler and is completely chill. The moment he mutters some stuff under his breath it is played over and over.
  12. X2. I am about to get the 05 Tahoe and I have heard nothing but good things about the way it pulls and it's fuel economy.
  13. I'm shocked that no one has mentioned the Bomber Long A. Those things slay the Striper for me. Don't do anything but reel and they will slam them.
  14. Haha. Wow. Totally forgot about that swimbait thread. Sorry to break it to ya Captain, but that bait is long gone. I completed it over 2 years ago and ended up losing it to some submerged timber. I don't go to the tacklemaking section much and I just forgot to complete the thread. It's amazing someone even found it. Anyway, if I get some time I will do another one.
  15. Definitely the jig. The jig catches big fish consistently and can be worked in the water column from top to bottom and around a variety of cover
  16. If it is just the hook hole where water is coming in, fill it with gorilla glue. Then make a 1/4" slit with a razor blade lengthwise down the bait, right between the eyes on the top of the frog. This will let the air out, and since it is above water most of the time, keep your frog from filling up. The tip 4biz gave you is the solution. I do this with all my frogs and it works perfectly. I've always wondered why some frogs sink more than others but it's just the way they have always been.
  17. If your cranking brush, you really need to be checking the knot every cast or two. Is the bait breaking at the knot or above it?
  18. Go with the Powell. They are the best rods under $200 IMO. I haven't had a single problem and the only time I ever returned one was because I broke it in the car and they took it no questions asked.
  19. Go big or go home. This frog is gonna kill them when your trying to imitate larger forage. I can't wait to give them a try and throw it at first light around some grass mats.
  20. It sounds like your fishing a lake where the jig cant be used in it's traditional style. What you can do is take the jig and retrieve it just like a spinnerbait. It's called swimming a jig. Try using a white jig to match shad, or a green pumpkin to match bream. Good luck dude
  21. Flechero - The new suit is extremely buoyant because it is made entirely of polyeurathane or however you spell it, while the top of the line Speedo is still made of a fabric. The increased buoyancy increases your speed dramatically. I don't know if the German took steroids or not, but 7.5 seconds off of your mark from the previous year has to raise an eyebrow. Matt Fly - FINA is in the process of banning the suit, but couldn't complete the ban before the Rome races. The german racer may have "peaked" this year, but is it possible for his peak to increase his previous time by 7.5 seconds? Also, if I understand correctly, Bolt was new to the Olympics and was relatively unknown. The guy who just beat Phelps was just an average Olympic swimmer in the past, now he shatters the WR and destroys his PB from the year before.
  22. The guy who beat Phelps said it had a lot to do with his suit. Everyone at the 08 Olympics were wearing the same suit Phelps wore, and Phelps blew them away because he is the best. The German who beat Phelps yesterday wore the new suit that is not made by Speedo(which is why Phelps can't wear it), and broke the world record AND beat his previous time by 7.5 seconds!!!!! Tell me that isn't the suit. FINA is in the process of eliminating the suit from competition, but couldn't remove it from this one. There is no doubt that when Everyone is wearing the same thing, Phelps is the best by a landslide
  23. Really like em Bobby. That Mud Bug is gonna whack them good. Have you tried wacky rigging the Wing Ding?
  24. Cade, again, congrats man. I was so pumped when I saw that you had won it. Proud of you dude. See ya on the trail soon!
  25. Congratulations Wayne!
