  1. I love the Rock but if you've never fished Grand, you need to. Just my 2 cents!
  2. I had the same question so I went out for a little while Saturday fishing from shore. I ripped it through grass, weeds, and laydowns and it performed the same as a regular spinnerbait. I'm really curious as to how it'll do when the temps start dropping this fall.
  3. Has anyone else tried the Death Shimmer spinnerbait? I bought 4 of these lures and I really can't believe how many fish I caught on them. On my stop & go retrieve or burning it back to the boat, it felt like I was fishing a crankbait. The vibration is unreal. Obviously that twisted up wire arm coupled with a #4/#5 CO blade just increases the vibration from a standard spinnerbait exponentially. I caught fish using a stop & go retrieve, burning it back to the boat (which was actually really effective with all of the extra vibration), slow rolling it, and yo-yoing it--which may be the most effective on a tough bite day. I'm curious what results you guys are getting with the Death Shimmer, where are you fishing it, and how are you fishing it? I really think this is an innovation to a classic bait that will catch average Joes like me a lot more fish.
  4. Hi Guys, I'm in the Raytown Club and we are taking on new members, both boaters and non-boaters. Here is our website address: http://www.raytownbassclub.net/ Our next meeting is next Monday night, March 14, in the Conservation Room of the Bass Pro Shop in Independence, MO. It is open to anyone and you should definitely come check us out.
  5. I switched from Chompers 1/4 oz to Megastrike 1/8 oz and my catch rate has nearly tripled. I believe it is because the jig always stands the bait up properly. I have tried many others--spot removers, Picasso, etc. and to date, nothing compares to the Megastrike jig.
  6. We fished Melvern Lake in Kansas today (August 7). Even though the temperatures have been hot and the lake level down, we still had a successful day on the water. We launched just after 6am and began throwing topwater lures on main and secondary lake points. Most of these were rip rap banks and/or chunk rock with substantial structure found from 6 to 10 feet deep. One good bite on a pop-r was all we could manage in the still, early morning hour. My boater caught a sauger on a spinnerbait. We ran toward the dam and had bites on crankbaits and soft plastics but we still had no bass in the boat. We then fished the dam and finally my boater caught a smallmouth bass. We went into a cove and fished a breakwall next and I caught a largemouth on a shaky head and within 5 minutes I caught a Kentucky on the same set-up. We noticed the bite really picked up as the breeze got stronger and there was some chop on the water. We finished the morning with both of us catching largemouths and smallmouths on crankbaits, senkos, and Texas-rigged soft plastics. As we were scouting the lake for a youth tournament tomorrow, we packed it in just before noon with both of us catching a limit. The water temperature was in the low 80s and clarity was near 2 feet at the dam and muddying up the further you ran from the dam.
  7. I'm going on a recon mission to Melvern Saturday morning. Any areas that I should definitely hit? Any areas to definitely avoid? Thanks!
  8. I would throw it without hesitation--and I will be throwing it in similar conditions in a couple of weeks.
  9. Daiwa. But I like my Shimano Citica and Shimano Symetre spinning reel.
  10. I send my reels to David. AKA the Reel Mechanic. He does amazing work. In fact, I just shipped 3 of my reels to him this morning. His turnaround time has to be at or near 3 days now--discounting shipping time. I'm sure as we get closer to warmer weather that time may increase due to the number of reels he will have to work on but check with him, he'll tell ya! Not only is his work great, but he has a wealth of knowledge that he is more than willing to share.
  11. I've used their tubes. Nice baits, interesting action and a lot of bites AFTER I added a tube rattle. I'm probably going to fish more of their lures this year.
  12. Welcome. It's always good to see a fellow Kansas Citian on the boards. If you ever want to check out a local bass club, give me a shout.
  13. T-rigged plastic--virtually any plastic and almost always with some black & blue/bama bug/green pumpkin If that don't get 'em, shaky head 1/8-1/4 oz jig with too many worms to choose a specific brand or size because they all work depending on conditions.
  14. No problem, Valkyrie. Just send me a marked up map or GPS coordinates and I'll be sure to stay off of those spots!! LOL!
  15. I've got a tournament up in the Gravois in October. That gives you guys plenty of time to catch some hawgs and release them up there! 8-)
