  1. The Shimano Citica E will throw a 1/16th oz crappie jig with no backlash. I'd still go with spinning gear.
  2. Do any of you guys use suspend dots on your deep cranks to get them down to depth? If so what's the best location and weight? I use 12lb line and don't won't to go lighter but still want the bait down 15-20ft.
  3. I use Zoom Finesse worms on Buckeye Lures Spot Remover 3/16 heads with no problems. I agree you should use a longer worm. I like the new Zoom magnum shakey head worms in watermelon seed.
  4. I broke my 7th Rapala Saturday. This one was a shad rap but I have broken 3 DTs in the past. I don't bounce them off rocks or timber nor do I slap them on the water. I use 12lb mono or 10 lb flouro and a 'glass rod so violent hook sets aren't the problem. Everyone I've had Rapala has politely replaced for me but it is a hassle to break my last of a color on the water.
  5. I have never had to fizz one from less than 40'. It really depends on how fast you drag them up. They seem to require less fizzing in the winter even from 60-70' but I can't explain why.
  6. G Loomis SHR822S Quantum Energy PTi 4000 30 lb yellow Sufix braid 10lb Berkley 100% floro leader Buckeye Spot Remover 3/16 or 1/4 in deep water or Owner Sledhead Zoom Mag Shakey head, 4" dead ringer, or hand pours I use yellow so I can see the line move easier and use the 4000 series reel because the bigger spool seems totwist less and I like the extra weight.
  7. I had a '86 procraft 16' with a 90 Johnson that porpoise bad when cruising. I put on a hydro foil and got a better hole shot, no porpoising, and didn't lose any top end. I actually think with a higher HP motor you could gain top speed by lifting the bow more.
  8. They can be caught at night but most guys I know catch them during the day. We catch them best May until late September down here. The hotter the water the better the garring. The is a local guide down here that could answer all your questions. http://www.westpointlakegargrabbers.blogspot.com/
  9. On braid I horse them in and play them on flouro and mono. The lighter he line the more you have to play them. Even if I'm not in a tourney I want that fish off and the bait back in the water fast as possible.
  10. I use a G. Loomis 822 SHR and love it. If you are looking for a cheaper rod my nephew has a BPS Pro-Lite Finesse 6'8" ML that is really almost as good as my Loomis. I think most medium rods are too stiff. I also changed to a 4000 series Shimano Sustain. I found I get a lot less line twist with the larger reel and the extra weight isn't noticeable.
  11. I use 30lb PP or Sufix on all my spinning gear and never had a problem. I think Power Pro actually casts farther than the same diameter mono. You do need to watch the bail close or close it manually to make sure it doesn't wrap over the top and if you get a twist in the line do not open the bail until you get it out. The pros far out weigh the cons
  12. I have a Shimano Citica 5.0:1 that needs a new rod. I will use it to fish mainly medium to deep cranks and 1/2 and up spinner baits. What do you guys suggest for $50-$80? Also should I look for graphite or fiberglass since it's mainly for crank baits?
  13. I have been using the Zoom 7" shaky head worms in watermelon seed. In cold water I down size to a 4" dead ringer on roboworm.
  14. 3/16 Spot Remover
  15. I have a tourney Saturday and I am not really sure were to look for the fish. Last week the water was 64 degrees and we caught them very shallow and in the backs of creeks. Since then they have drawn over a foot of water out of the lake and we are expecting 2-3 inches of rain. If it was just the draw down I would think the fish would be pulled back into the creek channels and deeper on secondary points. The water temp should be as high or higher than last week. Since they have drawn it down but it will shoot right back up what will the fish do? Where would you start in this case?
  16. I fish braid on my worm rod so I just reel down and just flick it up fast like RW said. With mono I'd probably drill him though.
  17. As a property owner I don't mind telling people about the brush piles around my dock. I do have a problem when these KVD wanna bes try to flip between my boat and the dock. I have a collection of lures I have pulled out of my boat carpet, dock floor, and even the dock roof. Only time I have ever run anyone off is once an idiot threw a crank bait within a foot of my nephews head while he was swimming so I arranged for the marine police to check his cooler. He was charged with boating under the influence and I haven't seen him since.
  18. I think brains are the most important thing but it does take some athletic ability to survive the schedule they fish. I would like to see a show like Day on The Lake where the pros come take my boat and sub-par tackle out and try to catch fish and I take their fully equipped rig on the same lake. I'd still get beat but it would be interesting to watch.
  19. I night fish year round. I love having a 30,000 acre lake all to myself. I use a lot of the same baits as day time except a SK red eye shad that I painted black.
  20. Lucky Craft Sammy and SPRO bronze eye frogs.
  21. FAQs are directions and men don't read directions. ;D
  22. Crappie, yellow catfish, and white bass. Spotted bass aren't bad but I like crappie the best.
  23. I live north of Atlanta and would like to find some places to fish that I can take the kids and catch some bass. Any of you guys know of any public places? I prefer places I can go after work and don't need my boat.
  24. I fish a crank baits on 20lb green Power Pro to get maximum depth from them and good hook sets but for slow presentations I use a fluoro leader.
  25. Sorry to hijack your thread but I was wondering if these could be skipped on a slider head like a tube. I love skipping piers in the summer and these look like they would work.
