Sam that is some good insight. I would like to take a step further and ask the reel mechanics what they actually use for there fishing adventures. It would be interesting to see at what price do they perceive the point of demishing return is and the brands they have the most confidence in.

Sam i have never seen a peacock battle a snake before but after watching what those two dogs do what they did to that snake I have to say it puts me a little bit more at ease. I don't think I will have to worry about stepping out in the yard a having mr no shoulders sneak up on me.

I agree 100%. I tried to use a 4.7:1 for lipless cranks and felt I was working really hard to get the bait moving as fast as I wanted it to. I switched to 6.4:1 and left the 4 to deep diving duties only.

My dogs killed 2 snakes yesterday in the back yard. I was there for one and have to say labs are pretty viscious when they want to be. One would distract it and the other would grab it by the tail and fling it around. They did this a couple of times until I was able to get them to stop and move them away. The snake was done at that point but it didn't stop me from shooting it Just incase.

You can get 2 h2o cranks for the price of 1 kvd. Also the h2o line is very diverse and well done as far as color, much better than the kvd. The durability of both are about equal in my eyes. H2o wins hands down for me.

Tiger has done that pretty much since he has been on tour. Also pro's especially the good ones have contracts that read that they have to only use a certain number of clubs from the sponsor. Usually this is somewhere between 10-13 leaving a few opening for " favorite clubs". Bass pros and their equipment are not as close to the public like the golf pros are. I would think that they don't upgrade because they don't have to. If it ain't broke don't fix it kinda of thing. I've also wondered that if they are not allotted a certain dollar value for sponsored reels. Something like you can have $2000 worth of rods and reels. If they were completely free then it seems all the pros would be using the absolute top of the line gear from their sponsor or why wouldn't some one like ish be using completely blinged out top of the line daiwas instead of just regular zillions and steez.

This kinda of topic usually turns out not so well. But maybe this one will be different. I voted bps and Pflueger. Both pretty much the same reel internally and construction wise. Maybe you could Change the bps, pflueger, Abu parts to just pure fishing and then it would be a more accurate poll. just a suggestion. I do have a shimano scorpion 1000 and it's a good little Reel although I don't see any noticeable difference from my other reels at this point . I need to put in more time with it though to give an accurate comparison.

The dicks sports here is pretty decent for fishing no where near a bps but they dont have the square footage either. They do have awesome specials though. I will say now that I have an academy here, the desire to go to bps is somewhere between slim and none.

Good point with the longer rod length but I forgot to mention in my op that I am restricted to 7'3" or less as that is the longest rod length that will fit in the rod locker without bending. Thanks for the input

I need to get a rod that will handle crankbaits anywhere from dt16 to Norman's dd22 and SK 6xd. TW has a sale on the Rc cranking (thinking maybe the 7' heavy?) and the daiwa ballistic 7'2" MH cranking. It will be paired with a PQ 4.7:1 reel. Which one would you choose between these 2? It will solely be between the 2 models. I am not interested in saving up money or buyin any other rod.

No intake no output. They are only on the water for 8 hrs I would I guess they do their business before they go. The guy that announces the British open every year stays in the same spot for 12 hrs without ever leaving his post. When asked how he does it that's his reply " no intake no output". Always got a kick out of that response.

It is nice to know that the academy line is produced by a quality mfg. seems like other than the braking system they are very similar. However I'm not sure why you want to order replacement parts when you can just take the reel back to academy and get a brand new one. Thanks for finding out the Info though!

I'm not saying automatically charge him but I would certainly let him Know that if he decides to pursue that path then I would press charges In A minute. He would be clear where I stood on the subject and if he decided to do it anyway he had been made aware of what the consequences would be. It would be his choice. It takes 2 people to date. Violence solves nothin. What happens if this kid you went to lay a whoopin on kicked your arse? What then, you gonna get your bro to help? What if this kid just decides to pull a gun and solve it that way? Are you solving problems then? And maybe you actually to Lay a whoopin to him and he sits around and decides to just drive by a lay a stream of bullets inside your house ? Is that ok? He's only a teenager right? Sounds like the kid has already made poor decisions you think he won't make a few more? You think this kind of stuff doesn't happen, it happens everyday. Running around taking action before you think of the consequences usually ends up making you a statistic. As far as your personal life I'm not touching that question. That's usually the kind of thing that leads to more than just open discussion.

I have to disagree with ya there bud. If he takes your advice daddyo will be the one in jail for assault and battery. Laws are put in place to discourage this sort of behavior. If the kid can't keep his hands of a 15 yr old then he has no self control. Letting him be will only encourage his and possibly those around him behavior. Sending a message may prevent someone else from doing the same to Someone else's kid. I was 18 too once but was smart and had enough control to keep my body parts to myself or at least those over 18.

Practice, practice, practice. You have to remember that pros eat drink and sleep fishing 8+ months a year. It's not something they do as a hobby after work. Every lake must be their local lake and they spend countless hours mulling over topo maps, weather forecast and who knows what else. Never would I even think about making a living trying to outsmart a brainless creature only to lose time after time

Would y'all hush!!! I bet the academy people are readin this right now thinking how they need to raise the price next week. ...lol.....no seriously these are great rods. Glad to see the original versions are starting to come in different lengths and actions.

It's a good starter rod. Nothing fancy and is not going to be extremely sensitive. It is not on par with the vendetta as mentioned above but If you want a really good rod that IMO surpasses the vendetta and is cheaper retail get the H20 ethos (I own both)

I have been looking for a alternative to the mighty bug for fishing river smallies. I use the mighty bug because the bream eat the claws off all other craw baits ( including Rage tail) and the thicker claws of the mighty bug are the only ones that will stand up to them. In your opinion how do you think the claws of these would do? I like the thicker ends but my question concerns the actual junction to the body. Also it doesn't give a size . How long are they?

I hate to sound negative on this but really what would be gained by 1 tournament ? Could they say they were the best I the world? Only for that week. Many events feature bass and flw tours stars already. Ttbc paa mlf umf to name a few. Also I think it would diminish their on "major" tournaments such as the classic and flw cup. Just my $.02
