  1. The two things that you want to fish for are on opposite ends of the spectrum. You will probably need 2 different set ups one for each kind of fishing . If you can only have one set up and want to keep it inexpensive (as much as you can without sacrificing a whole lot of quality) the get a 2500 spinning reel and a 6'-7' medium power spinning rod. Something like this http://www.basspro.c...10205073/138696 you will be a little overpowered for bluegill and a little under powered for catfish but it should work if you can't have 2 rigs.
  2. Made it on the local news all the way down here in sc. Great speech with a lot of truth to it.
  3. You are on the right path. 6.?:1 is an all purpose ratio. 7:1 are good for jigs and worms. 5:1 are generally considered better for cranking because the reel has more torque and doesn't take as much effort to turn the handle. This is especially true for deep diving cranks.
  4. Looks like a good time and great idea. Just FYI you can do some serious fishing from a kayak
  5. I believe that is Silstar not Allstar. From what I can see its a inexpensive combo based on the graphite body and spool. Also I looked it up on eBay here's the link to the reel http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=320914703832 . For bluegill it will probably be ok but catfish you might have problems. On a side I have a coffee table that looks just like that. Does the top lift up so you can use it as an eating table while watching tv? I
  6. I'm just asking for individual opinions. If you spent $100 on a reel at what point do you feel you got your monies worth? And the same for the other price points.
  7. We see it all the time in post on reels... probably won't last to long or you can find better reels for the price that will last longer. So my question is how long do you expect a reel to last? Let's category it by saying how long do you expect a $100 and under reel to last? A 100-200 reel ? 200- 300? 300 and up
  8. I bought this one http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_296051_-1?N=581132415 Last winter. Finally got to take it out on the river memorial day. I was extremely happy with the way it performed. The large cockpit opening was a blessing when gettin it and out. Especially when nature called. The only mod I did was to install a bungee to hold the paddle when anchored The molded in paddle rest did well for short period but I wanted something to hold the paddle outta the way when fishing and for long periods of time.
  9. id say 5-6...looks like shes takin a poop on ya ....nice catch!!

  11. Man that stinks...sounds like his license needs to go from "restricted" to " suspended".
  12. Both are an amazing job painting wise. I agree the fatal shad color might be better suited on top or sides just because i think thats what the fish see most on a crank. The topwater is super nice and i don't see a fish passin that one up anytime soon!.. Great jobs!
  13. Congrats Jeff !!!!
  14. The avengers hands down! That was a awesome movie not just action packed but funny too. My wife hates superhero movies but she owed me one after I watched the hunger games (yawn) with her. She hasn't stopped talking about wanting to see the avengers again.
  15. It's a decent reel. I never had to much problem with mine. After about 2 years it started getting noisy when cast but didn't affect the performance. I pulled in many of 2-5 lbrs with the biggest topping 8 and had no problems.
  16. The new mini Reeses are awesome. Also the Hershey drops. Back in the day it was mallo cups and whatchamacallits.
  17. Happens allot in the rivers i fish. throw a bait in there and its like a machine gun going off on your bait. I had to switch to yum money craw so i wouldn't blow thruogh 2 packs a day. The claws on those are much thicker and i don't get nearly the amount of lost claws due to bluegill.
  18. Good luck!....the bass are feeding on spawning herring on points..be at the right place and right time and you'll get some good ones!..
  19. no not yet. Didn't even know that was available. I'll try that out ..thanks!
  20. I was kinda hoping to not spend $ on another paddle .. the length was a minor inconvenience certainly not $80 worth
  21. Anybody made a homemade one? i finally got to take the kayak out memorial day and everything worked great but it would have been better if i had a longer paddle. I think i have a 220 carlise magic plus. any ideas? would like to extend it about 6"-8". I'll try to get a pic up later but in the meantime Heres a shot of a SC smallie i caught
  22. This might suit your needs. Have 2 of this line of Rods and love love love them http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_148119_-1?N=101394130
  23. LC is offering higher quality components for a higher price so if you look at it that way then yes it's worth it. But for me personally I would rather have 3 lures for $15 than 1
  24. Reminded me of the "alien autopsy"..lost interest after a few minutes
  25. Well their are no absolutes in fishing. But for spinner baits a 6'6" mh/f is fine and a 6'6"-7 mh is generally ok for most techniques. . I generally try to keep it simple This is how I determine what rid get what technique. 1: single hook lures get a mh or sometimes heavy depending on cover. 2: treble hook lures get a M. Now length. You need to look at what you' will be doing with what. Techniques that require accuracy I go with a 6'6" -7' With the exception being top water and jerk baits I also use the short rods for those cause I don't want the rod slapping the water on the retrieve. Open water techniques get a longer rod. Such as as a Carolina rig or casting a jig. I'm not so concerned with accuracy as I am with throwing the lure a long way. With this system it has made it easy for me to purchase the rod I need. So let's say you wanna buy a worm rod. A it's single hook so you'll need a mh. Now if you are fishing cover and need accuracy go with 6'6"-7. If fishing open water structure an need a long cast go with 7'3" -7'6".
