Love my veritas winch rods. Purchased 2 of the medium 7' and have thrown lipless and square bills. Very nicely made and handle the lure very well. Will probably go exclusively to the veritas series based on the performance of these rods.
Something is preventing it from rotating with the crankshaft and handle. I would take of the handle and turn the crankshaft to see if I could see the drag star backing off. Then take the drag star off to see if the round portion is bent or has a dent in it and also inspect the inside of the drag star.
I bought an old town vapor 10 from academy for $350 and have been very pleased with it. The perception is also a great looking kayak with a strong reputation. It will probably be my next kayak purchase.
I'm actually gonna chime in on this and throw a pflueger president in the mix! Yea I said it a pflueger..... It has been an outstanding reel for me and I would not hesitate to buy another one. I currently have 4 pflueger reels (1 president and 3 asaro) and they have performed well above my expectations.
Had a chance to meet up with a fellow forum member LMG ( LgMouthGambler). We met up at Lake Murray for a couple of hrs. LMG is a class act and knows his stuff...and yes he does love those Shimanos... ..Had a great time and hope to get to do it again one day . On to the fun part, here are some pics of the catches (mostly LMG and my little dinky fish).
One thing that needs mentioning is that while you may replace components and get some better performance you cannot change the tolerances to which it was built. That is gonna be the differance between higher dollar reels like Shimano, daiwa, pfluegers , or abus vs the pq.
Got both of my winch rods i ordered on the 9/27 today. They were packaged very well and in great condition when i received them. Can't wait to get back out on the water this weekend to try them out.
I would say the rod is most important but a reel will always cost more. They just have more components and moving parts which require more engineering. So a 100 rod should be paired with a 150 reel if you are trying to match quality of rod and reel if that makes sense. I guess an example would be a $80 vendetta rod matched with a $130 revo sx.
Are these the newer versions?? I have not had any of my PQ's come with carbon drags. Even the carbonlites (gold ones) that i have did not have carbon drags.
I have upgraded 2 Carbonlite (older gold ones) and a tournament edition with the carbontex drags which did make the drag smoother I have not tried any bearing upgrades as I feel I get good distance with the stock ones properly cleaned and lubed.
The congaree does have bass I have caught a few. It also as a very small poulation of smallmouth although you will find more of them up in the broad river. I'm guessing that you were at the ramp off of bluff road?
