  1. Grease. It is there so you can apply it to the main gear and keep it and the pinion lubed without having to take the side plate off. However I find that after the yearly service I give mine I don't have to put any more grease on the gears.
  2. Largemouth on the lake- zoom green pumpkin finesse worm Smallmouth in the river-yum mighty bug 3"
  3. I use them a good bit. Never had any problems with them. They are probably not quite as good as the top name brands but more like eagle claw laser brand. They actually may be that specific brand under a different name.
  4. I have used a lot of hook remover but the best by far is good ole needle nose pliers. I like the cheap ones from harbor freight because it seems like with the cheap components it makes them lighter. Also it doesn't hurt my feelings if after i done removing the hook I toss the Fish on The deck of the boat and the pliers in the water. (Yes that did actually happen Lol).
  5. Rod-h2O xpress ethos 6'8 medium power. $59.99 Reel-BPS pro qualifier 20 $70.00 $130ish for the setup and its been great so far.
  6. I own both carbon lite and veritas. Both rods are well built and will serve you well. My preference however is the veritas. The difference being the Eva grips on the veritas. The carbon lite rods have a rubber foam filled grip(at least mine does) . I also like the aesthetic appearance of the veritas over the carbon lite but that has no bearing on performance. Bottom line you will not be disappointed with either of them.
  7. Went to the one here twice and will not go back. It cost $8 just to get in the door and all the "vendors" you can find at the flea market on the weekends. Not to mention the guys that pour pathetic plastics out of there garage the week before just so they have something to sell.
  8. I will give a big X2 on this one. I was actually thinking of gettin one before I handled it in the store. I swear it felt like they filled the inside with lead. After handling it there was no way I was spending money on it.
  9. Yep it's called the pistol minnow. Awesome little bait. Finally got to trying out a couple of weeks ago and caught 5 nice ones when they started chasin shad to the surface. Only thing is the hooks they worked fine but did get bent some.
  10. BAM! Nailed it. The pq is an excellent reel for 100 and on sale is even better.
  11. According to the book knowing bass the research showed Deet as " repulsive" to bass. Even the smallest amount was able to be detected by bass.
  12. Yes I have tried it and it does work well. The above mentioned skin so soft is also a good choice. I use a thermal cell when out in the summer fishing but If I didn't have that a dryer sheet is what I would use. Do not use any insect repellent that has deet while fishing.
  13. H2O xpress ethos cranking rod.its an academy exclusive rod which means if it breaks just take it back to academy and they will replace it. Usually around 59.99 retail and sometimes can be had at 39.99 when on sale. It's a composite so it should work well. I have several of the ethos line and they are above their price quality rods. http://m.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_148117_-1
  14. They flex when under pressure which causes the gears to not line up properly.
  15. I have seen a few posts that I am having trouble understanding so maybe someone can help me clarify 1st.. cutting the butt and tip section of a rod will slow the action of the rod.. I can certainly see the tip section but how does trimming the butt section slow the action? I know a rods taper affects the action but most rods I have seen have a parallel butt section up until about where the reel seat is. So the taper starts from the reel seat to the tip so trimming the butt section should have no effect. Also when holding the rod you do so by the reel and not the butt end so the reel seat is basically the fulcrum point. As long as it is not trimmed above the fulcrum then the action or power of the rod should not be affected. 2nd. The longer the rod the more line you can move when setting the hook. I believe this is only the case if the distance between the reel and tip of the rod is longer. Not just because that the rod as a whole is longer. A 7' rod with a 10" butt section will move te same amount of line that a 7'6" rod with a 16" butt section. The only reason I say this is because I had a 7'6" rod that had the same distance between the reel and tip as my 7' rods. So the line movement theory didn't apply. So what am I missing something on these 2 things?
  16. Oh my. The predictions are true then, the end of the world is here! H*** just froze over and pigs are getting ready to rule the sky!!!
  17. Who you tryin to kidd , you would never let a 50e outta your hands....you'd cradle that thing like a new born baby..haha....but I am going to Japan in a couple of weeks so maybe I'll take a look at some of the JDM stuff while I'm there. :-)
  18. Can't go wrong with either of those choices but I'll put my vote for the AG cause I Like pure fishing products.
  19. Academy h2o ethos rod for 59.99 and the mettle reel on sale now for 29.99 reg 49.99. Cannot beat the quality of these 2 products for a retail price $110.00. I will give props to the above mentioned orra combo. These would be my second choice.
  20. Just what I was thinking!
  21. There's a big difference between twigs and trunks vs an ounce between rods. I have to agree with LMG in the fact that an ounce of weight isn't that big of a deal. Usually rod mfg's get into these wars cause it is what the public wants and what sells not necessarily that it's making huge differences in performance. Just my $.02
  22. Just thought I would update this. I got out for about and hr a casted it around. This thing cast like a bullet. Easily got 30-40 yds out if a cast. It walks extremely easy and leaves a nice trail. I would recommend these to anyone and I will be picking up a few more myself in the future.
  23. Without a length and girth measurement it's just gonna be a guess. I would say around the 3-4# mark. If I recall you have to use the full editor if you want to attach pics to a reply.
  24. My pleasure man!! Here's another. ..... When you meet a complete stranger and take them out fishing for the day and get out fished from the back of the boat on your home lake and then try and convince yourself and your spouse that it was on purpose!......lol. Good times LMG!
  25. You already have what you need. Use your crank setup for all treble lures I'd go with #12 yozuri on this one,, worm set up for single hook lures id go witb #15 fluoro on this one and the spinning for shakey head drop shot or other finesse applications id shoot for braid with a fluoro leader.
