  1. not very.
  2. 1.5 hours to go. Thanks to all the respondees and your well wishes. Have a fantastic day tomorrow.
  3. Here's a fellow from Lakeside, OR which may or may not be close to you. However, in any case I am sure he would be glad to help steer you right for your area. Ron Buchwald RBuch999@aol.com
  4. I do so like that watermelon!
  5. What physical components are in the eye of a bass can be seen during an autopsy. What can't be told is how they function when the fish is in the water alive. The principle that most are conveying is keep it simple. Dark stained or muddy water calls for dark colors and clear water calls for light colors, except for when the bass change the rules, which can occur anytime you are fishing. Have some dark and some light and you can't go wrong.
  6. I don't agree with the "leave the rod at home" theory. I do agree with leaving when it is time to do so. The youngster will tell you when. I see many fathers trying to force their kids to like fishing. If it's not in them don't force it. Not everyone is destined to enjoy this sport, however if they don't when they are 8 perhaps they will when they are 12. Let them tell you what they want to do.
  7. Buying gifts especially for a fisherman is quite difficult since most fishermen have specific desires. Buying a gift when you are a youngster is hard as money is definitely an issue. If he really enjoys fishing, a gift certificate to your local bait and tackle is quite appropriate. Then Dad can pick and choose what he wants and what he needs.
  8. There will be outstanding opportunities to fish I would imagine. Who's the outfitter? I have caught some huge bass out there. Bring plenty of bug spray as the mosquitoes can be something else. Are you launching from the east coast or the west coast?
  9. A: Gators are frightened by people and boats so don't worry about them B: Plan carefully as wind is an issue that time of the year and your equipment isn't going to handle open waters. Look for a lake that has plenty of coves and such so that you can be out of the wind.
  10. Have a fantastic Holiday Season Twas the night before Christmas, when out on the lake All the Bass were a studying all the lures not to take. The Chug Bugs, the Senkos, the spinner baits too Were some to look out for, these but a few. While back at my house, I was snuggled in bed; As visions of big ones, danced about in my head. A cast to some stickups, a cast to some weed Produced bass after bass, it was a Mecca indeed. I arose in the morning, tree lights twinkling bright My eyes full of dream dust, I was quite a sight. I gathered the family, and sat them down near For the tale of the bass trip, I wanted all them to hear. I regaled them quickly, with all that I caught The big ones the little ones the lunkers I fought. Their eyes were like saucers, as they listened with glee But there thoughts were on presents beneath our great tree. As I finished my tale I heard from my wife Merry Christmas dear family, And George, Get a life.
  11. Kids fishing: Nothing can replace it: the excitement and joy is a treasure to see as youngsters learn what fishing is all about.
  12. Worse than having spelling errors in a post, would be to come here reprimanding those errors with reams of grammatical errors in the chastisement. Redundant superfluous eloquency is most unimpressive. Winter fever is definitely settling in.

  14. I believe in most states if the bluegill is obtained by legal method it can be used as bait. In other words, if you hooked the gill then it's legal, if you netted the gill then it's not legal because it's not legal to net the gill.
  15. 1. Have enough fishing experience to actually be able to help others - more fail for the lack of fishing experience than for any other reason. 2. Have proper licensing based on State and Federal requirements - State requirements can be answered by your Fish and Game. Federal requires an OUPV, (6-pak) license for any federally navigable water. 3. Insurance: Commercial insurance is required no matter where you are guiding. Standard insurance does no cover any commercial activity with your boat. 4. The hours are long: the only reason for going into this guide thing is for the love of doing it. Your reason, (to make money), is the number one reason for failure in this business. Burn out occurs rapidly and most fall by the wayside. Guiding is not just providing a boat to get to areas of water that everyone knows about. It involves dealing with people and giving insight into what has taken years to learn. Filling the boat needs and the licensing is easy - Truly having the fishing experience to enter a tournament every trip is not so easy. Yes, I said a tournament, and it is one you must win. There is no second or third place in this business. You either produce or you lose.
  16. "In the U.S., are you allowed to keep on fishing when you have caught and kept your limit?" Fishing limits are set for those that you keep. There are no limits for those that you catch. Des limites de pêche sont fix ées pour ceux que vous gardez. Il n'y a aucune limite pour ceux que vous attrapez.
  17. To answer your question: how much do you know about the spot. Are there fish there? History doesn't put fish there now. This is a pressing decision that I have to make on a daily basis. I have learned over the years that the solution is simple. If you absolutely know that you are on fish then don't leave. Do what you have to do to make them bite, but don't leave fish to find fish. If it is a case that the bite is off for the moment, it is off in that other spot also.
  18. You may be a drop shot expert, a Carolina rig guru, or a pitching fool, but if your skills are lacking on finding fish then all the other skills aren't going to help. Learn about the biology of this fish, it's known habits, and seasonal cylcles and you will be way ahead of the game. When fishing hone your observation skills, and your concentration and you will put more fish in the boat.
  19. Senko? Who ever heard of a Senko? I call them fishcatchers cause that's what they do. T-rigged with or without weight - wacky rigged - soft jerk bait - c-rigged - you name it they produce. You can try to duplicate it, and you can try to replace it, but in the end you will be back to it because it does the job. By the way: don't get caught in the do-nothing hype - this bait is as versatile as your imagination will allow it to be. As Mr. B; , and RW say - it's the bait that "gits er done"!

  21. Not sure of the time, but it seems everything is back up and running. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
  22. A few already said it: pay attention to what is going on. So few do! It is easy to say, but much more difficult to do. What are the birds doing? Where did you catch that fish? How did you catch that fish? Perhaps there are more waiting right there. Concentrate, and pay attention to surroundings and events!
  23. nwgabassmaster, You seriously need to talk with a fishery biologist. It is highly unlikely that any good hook will rust out anytime soon. Through the gill removal of the hook is safe method that gives the bass the best chance of survival. Obviously, anytime you work around the gills you need to use care. If you do leave the hook it is highly recommended that you leave a length of line outside the mouth. This aids in keeping the hook, shank outward. It is one thing to disagree, but to disagree in what is universally accepted both by the layperson and the professional doesn't make a lot of sense.
  24. Matt, All manufactures, all models - talk to any tech at any company and they will advise to listen for clicking to check if your transducer is working. The clicking can be heard out of the water, but it of course is louder in water.
  25. All transducers make a clicking sound and it is quite audible in the water. However, it is highly unlikely that this will bother the fish.
