  1. Ditto. If it is parasites, they can treat it.
  2. DVL has smallies, not sure how abundant they are. Heard rumors some years ago that they hang out around the USS Relief ( restroom ) going toward the dam. Flutter spoons and bladed jigs, not to mention hair jigs would be the baits of choice.
  3. And that's why I never ever filled out any of the raffle tickets. ?
  4. Have a look at the Irod Gen III 7'7" 775c. I have a few Irods, fish way above the price point, and customer service is Excellent.
  5. P & F was being used long before the high speed reels came out, imho the 7 speed will work just fine.
  6. Glad you got it sorted out Chet.
  7. Just drove by another Chevron station this evening, and noticed that Premium was $ 5.39 per Gal. I use to use Chevron Diesel all the time, not a fan of them any longer.
  8. My SLX mh is for sure more stout than other rods I own with the same rating. Mainly I find the tip isn't as soft.
  9. I've used 2.8 Kietech's on mine, they work just fine.
  10. Owner Flashy Swimmer, it has an underspin which I like.
  11. Went to the Chevron gas station tonight to fill up with diesel, the tank took a tick over 24 gals. at a cost of just over $ 124.00, which just erks me, but to top it off, the automatic shut off on the nozzle failed, I had about a quart or more of diesel come out of my overflow, and it poured all over the concrete. It was after hours and no one to complain to. These petroleum prices have to stop, charging way higher prices due to shortage, or breakage is ridiculous. I'd go on, but that would go into political territory......
  12. I hate fedx, every package they have delivered has been either tossed over out porch gate, or left next to our yard gate, which anyone could reach over and take it. UPS on the other hand always brings the package up on our porch and SETS it down. We keep our yard gate locked to prevent anyone from wandering in.
  13. They also worked pretty dang good in the city park ponds/lakes. Caught more than a few good LMB. The water in those ponds/lakes were all stained water too.
  14. Don't overlook the Diawa Tatula 300. In the past I used a Shimano Curado 301 E 7, was a great swimbait reel, and trouble free. I would say the Tatula is on par with that reel, and why I chose it over the 2 mentioned.
  15. BTW, I almost forgot to give a tip for Cabrillo, if ya want to catch Spotties, long walk if you dare, but at the end of the jetty that goes out to the light house, on the inside of there is where you can catch spotties all day long, and good sizes too. However, I would suggest using a float tube or a yak, cuz ya want to cast right to the rocks. Lures with lots of Red in them work best.
  16. Fish the swimjig with a 3" big hammer just like a swimbait, Cast it out, let hit bottom, then give your rod a small pop, so the bait is bouncing off the bottom about a foot, then repeat. Fishing the football, or arky style jig, although you could use the swimjig, with a craw trailer, by doing the same thing, but you can also crawl it on the bottom, let sit for a few seconds, then give your rod a slight pop, bringing the jig 6" to a foot off the bottom, and again, just repeat this, for this you want to use skirted jigs. One thing I didn't mention was, I never really targeted sandies. BTW, at Newport Harbor one day, I was smiling a skirtless swimjig with a 3" big hammer and hooked into a 6lb white sea bass, on 8 lb, mono line, talk about a good fight, very good fighting fish. Anyway, between me and Tom's advice, this should keep you busy for awhile, and hopefully you land some nice fish. I don't fish the salt any longer, just freshwater. Good Luck.
  17. Both Calico's and spotties will bite on lures that imitate crab colors, i.e. browns, reds and orange. Also swimjigs with 3" Big Hammer swimbaits work well, for those, the more red the better. And yes, you can catch all 3 types of bass year round. I use to float tube Newport, Los Alamitos bay, Huntington, and even Cabrillo. Another bait that the bay guys hardly ever use, but can be deadly on salt bass, is a 1/2 oz green pumpkin jig, with a craw trailer, especially when the bite is tough. For the trailer, use one that has some red, or orange in it if possible. Me a few years ago at Los Alamitos.
  18. Here in L.A., the city park lakes/ponds are getting to the point where it's no longer any fun to fish. I've had grown men cast over my line, some will stop within 20 feet of me and start casting. One park lake in particular has let the toolies grow out of control so that the east side of the lake is no longer fishable. Makes it hard to get motivated just to go fishing.
  19. Very nice.. Saw the firecracker, looks good, but I'd rather have a painted head like the one Allen pictured, also skirt is more true to color of a trout. I know, nitpicker..lol
  20. May sound weird, but I'd like to try a double willow spinnerbait 1/2 oz in a rainbow trout pattern. If Allen or anyone would care to make one, or 2, I'd be more than happy to compensate you.
  21. My Diawa Tatula's, both in the 200 and 300 models. 200's toss everything from a frog to 6" swimbaits. 300 is for the larger swimbaits.
  22. I'd be willing to bet that are more than a few DD bass in there. Here's the tough part about fishing a pond, especially from shore, Finding the dang fish. If you haven't done so already, instead of casting straight out from shore, fan cast from parallel to the shore outward. Vary the length of the cast's. Also helps if you happen to fish there on a regular basis, and at different times of the day. Here in So. Cali, all of my biggest bass have come just before noon, and most of them after noon, maybe different in your area. Anyhow, hope you find a solution to getting some big girls.
  23. How big is this pond.? Reason I ask is cuz, a 4 acre park pond I fish on a regular basis, had the DFG come in a shock the pond to get a count on the bass. Turns out that there were 10 Bass 14 lbs , 18 were over 10 lbs, and something like 2 dozen were in the 6 to 8 lb range. The majority of bass caught by the locals was 2 to 5 lbs. Needless to say they were shocked " no pun intended " to hear of the number of big bass in there, so ya never know what is in that pond.
  24. Larger swimbaits, to include glide, and wake baits. There are others, jigs would be up there also.
