  1. 1. Dobyns Fury 765c -Daiwa Tatula CT TACT100XS 2. Dobyns Fury 705cb - Daiwa Tatula CT TACT100HS 3. Dobyns Fury 705cb - Daiwa Tatula CT TACT100H 4. Dobyns Fury 735c - Daiwa Tatula CT TACT100HS 5. Dobyns Fury 734c - Daiwa Tatula CT TACT100H 6. Dobyns Fury 702s - Shimano NASCI 2500 That's exactly what I would choose and I would never feel that I'm a disadvantage with them. Also, check the "bidding" sites for the best price on the reels, you can save a ton brand new.
  2. If I had to, Maxima Ultragreen.
  3. I use this rod for my squarebills and I've also used it for spinnerbaits. It does work well, it's a bit more stout in areas than the standard crankbait rod.
  4. 3/8 and 1/2 oz, open water... 744 Champion. If you're putting it in heavier cover go 735c Champion.
  5. $109 is a little above your range but my choice would be a 702s or 703s Dobyns Fury spinning. Depending how heavy an action you like on your spinning rod one of these would be my choice.
  6. It's different for everyone. Quite frankly, when Dobyns hit the market I think they had a staff that was too aggressive and left a bad taste in a lot of folks' mouth. A lot of people have held onto that really strong (not that I blame them) and have written the company off altogether. There are a ton of things I hear about the rods that I just don't think are true and that's ok. We all have our opinions. My crazy opinion is the NRX is the most overpriced rod out there and everyone thinks I'm crazy for it. That's just an example of how opinions can differ. I trust the Dobyns Champion and DX or Champion Extremes. Even the Fury is now an awesome rod. I see a lot of rods recommended as better constantly where I just can't help but disagree... but it's all opinion. We all look for different things because we all tend to do things a little differently. I trust what I have and I trust what it will and will not do. That is what it comes down to for me. I don't care how a rod "casts" a bait.. could hardly care less in most instances. I also at times am fishing for a class of fish that some people will never even hook or put their bait in front of. Let alone some areas I'm throwing a bait into. It is all preference.
  7. Are you fishing your jigs in open water? Or doing the pitching/flipping around wood and grass? Two completely different things and different rods for me. I use a 744dx extreme in open water for jigs 1/4-3/4oz. I wouldn't use the same rod with a 1/2oz jig pitching around cover however. I agree with the others... if you're fishing around cover the 735 is what I would lean towards, if not the new 744c Champion is what I would get.
  8. 7 foot, medium heavy graphite made for a crankbait.
  9. The color-c-lector maybe?
  10. It becomes pretty clear that when people start using words like "nano" "extreme" and other keywords on their fishing equipment as a gimmick.. They haven't been that interested in it long enough to remember many of the TRUE awesome gimmicks! HAHA
  11. Man, I had forgotten that one!!! Seemed great as a concept! ha
  12. If I were choosing a rod to throw both topwater and ripbaits/jerkbaits on it would be a graphite 705cb. Of the two you mentioned I would still opt for the 704cb. I strictly like a longer rod though.
  13. Personally 10lb has always caused management issues for me on spinning tackle. 8lb works however! It has been a while though and I have thought about going up to 10lb fluoro in the Sniper just to see if it would handle ok since it is so thin. It just comes down to me having a lot of confidence in the 7 and liking the line overall from all aspects.
  14. I apologize, as a main line. Straight 7lb fluorocarbon. It can get a little sketchy around some docks with 6+ lb fish, but I still trust it. Great line that I have just built a TON of confidence in. I just can't fish a bait that sinks on braid very well, I've never been able to get used to it personally.
  15. I tend to like 16lb Sniper Sunline as some others here have stated. If I'm fishing in HEAVY wind... sometimes spinnerbait blades and fluoro don't mix. In that case, I will go with 15lb Maxima Ultragreen mono.
  16. 7lb Sniper Sunline myself.
  17. It is nice to finally hear from someone who agrees that the newer reels are in fact just as powerful as an old 5:1 gear ratio. I'm so tired of hearing... Have to have that 5:1 for more power... I just can't agree with that at all. I've never had a problem torquing a fish out of heavier cover than most people who say that have ever put their bait into. WRB you make a lot of spot on posts... you're awesome!
  18. Rod preference 7'11"-8'0" rod personally. I like graphite that feels more like glass. My personal rod preference is an RM805cb Dobyns Champion. Favorite baits: Norman DD22 (color selection is awesome) Strike King 5 and 6XD Spro Lil John DD.
  19. Winter has set in. I am happy I live in California and can fish year round. OP: I haven't fished extensively with both of the reels so I can't offer much difference in hand myself. I will tell you my opinion is I really can't notice a difference in real world fishing PERSONALLY between the two. I have two good friends who have both the citica I and curado I. One of which has been fishing much longer and at a different level than the other. Long story short, they both are not able to tell a difference when using the reels side by side throughout the day. One of these two is my team partner and I trust him as much as I trust myself... He is hard on his gear and has never liked Shimano reels in the past, but he is a huge fan of the I series. Hope this is helpful. ibobped: I don't think you were too out of line with your response. Hope you'll still participate in other threads.
  20. When I'm throwing squarebill crankbaits around things like docks, grass and heavy wood, basically things that I can break off around... I use 15lb Maxima Ultragreen (mono or copoly) OR Sunline Sniper 16lb fluorocarbon. I use baits down to 3/8 oz regularly (KVD 1.5). This line casts without worry and is very strong/abrasion resistant. If I'm throwing a deep diver or mid depth bait in basically open water, I will use 12lb or 10lb fluorocarbon Sunline Sniper... I would say it depends what kind of crankbait and how you'd like it to run, as well as what type of cover you're fishing around. I hope this makes sense, please let me know if you need any clarification.
  21. I have spent much more time with a chatterbait than a swimjig. For the Chatterbait I use a Dobyns 734c Champion, 7:1 Curado E, and 16lb sunline sniper fluorocarbon. I really have a hard time feeling I could do much better than keeping them hooked with this. I really do "horse" the fish in and keep my rod TOTALLY loaded. It's all about finding a system that works for you. I'm not quite to this level of confidence with a swimjig yet... I tend to use either a Dobyns 744dx Champion Extreme, or a Dobyns 764c Champion, I go back and forth with Braid or Fluoro on these rods.
  22. I am personally a big fan of the 7'4 rods. I do not own a 743 in the casting model, but I've spent some time over the years with a buddy's in that model. It would compliment the dx745 well. The dx702 is a great model as well I'm sure, I just prefer the 7'4 rods myself. What type of baits are you looking to use it for? Let me know if I can answer any more specific questions please.
  23. Buzzed bait already asked the important question, which baits are you planning on throwing?
  24. Removed, didn't read post correctly.
