  1. so looks like one kistler and a couple avid series right now... am i to assume that the avid series is just a great series since it is used by all different applications
  2. what rods are yall using for crankbaits
  3. are the rods shipped in a tube because If so i am about to order one from them
  4. thanks ill go with the size 10 then. Just sucks that bass pro didn't have em. ill e-mail TW and see how to go about getting price match
  5. sounds good. I love the way the reel itself feels. Just need to figure out whether to order a size 10 or 20
  6. went to bass pro to compare the 10 and 20 and purchase whichever one was better suited for a 6'6'' L action rod for crappie and inline spinners for bass. They only had a the display of the 20 so I was unable to compare. Anyone have any advice as to which one to go with because I am just going to order it online now.
  7. i was talked out of the UL because everyone was stating the L action would be better suited to handle bass
  8. anybody? I am purchasing one tomorrow and would love some input. If no replies because of the rod pick, then feel free to add but please atleast say why
  9. As many times as I have said in a few post here lately that I wanted an UL setup, everyone else said go Lor ML instead. I have decided to listen lol. Just help me out with a rod. I pretty much have decided on a St.Croix avid series but do I go with a 6'3''ML XF (lure weight 1/16 - 3/8, line weight 4 - 8) or a 6'6''L F (lure weight 1/16 - 1/4, line weight 4 - 8). It is critical for it to be 1/16 ounce capable because I throw 1/16 rooster tails. I am buying a soron STX 20 tomorrow at the spring classic to go with it. It will have 4lb yo-zuri hybrid ultra soft for the line.
  10. ok well i just watched some videos on you-tube and realize what i call shaky head actually isnt that lol. I use jig heads like spot remover or luck "e " strike jig heads with the spring you screw your worm on to. So trigs and whatever you call this is what i am looking for a rod for it
  11. these rods have been suggested to me for a trig shaky head only rod... are these rods all comparable or do the dobyns and loomis blow out powell because there is a significant price difference between them. IF they do... what is the better of the dobyns or loomis. ALSO where do say stcroix ltb and avid series fit in
  12. I use 1/8oz and 3/16oz slip sinkers on my t-rigs and 3/16 shaky heads. I have decided this is going to be my only application specific set-up because it is my favorite technique. It will have an Abu Garcia Revo STX on it and don't mind spending around 250 on the rod. I currently am using a 7' MH cheapo from walmart. I would like to not go any longer than that. Many places I have seen are using M or ML for shaky heads and light T-rigs but I have always used MH and been successful so I assume that is fine. LET THE SUGGESTIONS POUR IN. lol
  13. Anyone have any experience with these. Looking to get a spinning reel and I use abu baitcasters so wondering about their spinning reels.
  14. On the thread about showing your tackle. i see alot of people take there plastics out of the bags and put them in the plano type containers. does this not make them dry out faster
  15. thanks guys especially RW. Now i just get to start choosing the exact equipment now that i have the generals outlined. Its a big relief though knowing what I need though
  16. So the set up I already own....: All Star Team Series - 7'0'' Medium Heavy Fast Abu Garcia Record: RCN50 (6.3:1) Yo-Zuri Hybrid (12lb. - Camo Green) would work great for Texas rigs(1/8weight and finesse worms), spinnerbaits, jigs, frogs for now? This rod is extremely stiff for a MH so between what you posted here and the link I came up with that I need a MH or H for these applications so a really stiff MH falls right in there. Then for crankbaits topwater: 7' M/M cranking rod Abu Garcia winch Then for crappie/small pond bass(1lbs. just fishing in backyard) 6'6'' UL spinning reel(have no clue what spinning reels i want) Then eventually for t-rigs only set up: 7' MH/F Abu Garcia STX HS when you say soft plastics on the ML spinning set-up... what soft plastics lures are you talking about. With a finesse worm and 1/8 worm weight I can cast on baitcaster very accurately so I know its not too light. any examples please?
  17. Heres where I am at equipment wise: All Star Team Series - 7'0'' Medium Heavy Fast Abu Garcia Record: RCN50 (6.3:1) Yo-Zuri Hybrid (12lb. - Camo Green) I use this set-up for primarily T-rigs because thats just about all i'm good at right now. Very comfortable with the t-rigs and know what i am doing. I need to expand and start learning new techniques. I bought some crankbaits and topwater lures. so I assume I need a M action moderate speed rod and a 5.x:x gear ratio reel. For spinnerbaits I planned on using my t-rig set up. (will that be alright? I don't want to put too much money into application specific setups until I know it is something I will use alot.) Lastly I have a many little pond in neighborhoods around here that have small bass and crappie. They tear up little roadrunner jigs and 1/16 ounce rooster tails. So I want to get a nice UL setup going. any suggestions
  18. I do mean UL in the since of UL. I am going to be using it primarily for crappie and small inline spinners for little bass in a few ponds around here.
  19. I am going to set-up an ultra light rig and need some help deciding on rod and reels. I am going to list everything in consideration and see what you would pair. Granite i know there is some pretty big price differences between some of the things but still i am stuck Reels 1. Shimano Stradic FI 1000 2. Pflueger President 20 - micro ultralight 3. Pflueger President 25 - ultralight 4. Abu Garcia Cardinal 501 5. Abu Garcia Cardinal 601- (Not sure of differences between the 501 and the 601. And if these are not the ultra light versions then do not consider please. I use abu baitcasters so i figured i should include these) *I did not include any daiwas because even though some are listed as UL the line capacity makes me think bigger than UL Rods 1. Falcon Original 5'6'' UL 2. Allstar team series 6'4'' UL 3. St.Croix Avid Series 6' UL 4. St.Croix Avid Series 6'6'' UL 5. St.Croix Premier Series 6'UL 6. St.Croix Premier Series 6'6'' UL If there is just something amazing you feel should be in my list then you can throw it in there
  20. I am about to purchase a powell max casting for my t-rigs,shaky heads, and light jigs ... i heard that powell's ratings were not quick as stiff as others so i am wondering if i should go with the 703(MH) or 704(H)... thanks
  21. actually lets make it up to 140 bucks ... ive been looking at a powell 703cef (mh extra fast) and right now i believe thats what ill go with ... if anyone has any ideas which would be better than my selection please chime in. im not worried about the weight of the rod due to the fact that the reel weighs so much . any help?
  22. thanks guys ... any thoughts on the allstar team rods
  23. i just bought a record reel size 50 ... its 6.3:1 ratio gonna use it for my texas rig,c-rig, and jigs ... which rod for around 100 do u think would be best. i was thinking the mojo bass jig n worm...
  24. I once read on this forum that if you send broken rapala crankbaits back to them they will send you new ones. I was unable to find that topic through the search. So if anyone has done this please reply and tell me what you did and where u sent them. I bought two rapala dt's: one lip broke off on the first cast... and the other after the third cast i was pulling weeds off of it and notice it was cracked on both sides about half way down it.
  25. thanks guys ill go and get one of the bigger sizes to try and learn... thank you
