  1. ya i saw it, definitely interesting i keep hoping I'll see my grandfather in it.
  2. For you guys whose school have a fishing club what kind of things do you do other than the T's I'm trying to start one at my school but I know its gunna attract lots of saltwater guys so I'm not really sure what other kinda stuff we can do. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks
  3. Ya, that sounds like a plan I have experience and also enjoy saltwater fishing and being in Rhody a ton of guys do that as well, so I think I'll be able to break into it that way. Probably talk to the fisheries and aquaculture guys and see what they think. Thanks for the help. lemme know if you got any other ideas. Thanks -Mike
  4. Technically you only need yourself and another person. True, but I'm pretty sure that you have to have a registered club/team at your school and at my school to do that i believe you need at least ten people, but maybe I'm mistaken I'm definitely going to look further into it.
  5. This is something new for me, Fishing a hump or what I think is a hump. I don't really know how to go about it because the bottom is covered in snot grass, so that pretty much throws jigs, crankbaits, and soft plastics out the window. Background info: Alright, the lake I'm fishing is in RI it's got an average depth of about 9' with a maximum of 40'. The water clarity is good, and the lake is by no means muddy. The hump: About 200 yds offshore, the bottom comes up to about 6 1/2 ft. Directly on top of the hump and facing North is a stream, the hump drops down to 8' and then gradually the bottom comes back up shallow to the shoreline where stream is. Facing South, the bottom gradually drops until you eventually hit the middle of the lake and 40' of water, but that's a long ways away. Facing East and West is where it gets interesting both sides drop off dramatically till about 15' of H20. The drop is not vertical, but its definitely not a gradual slope. Once it hits 15-17' the bottom levels off for some distance. Basically I'm just looking for some help on learning how to fish structure like this eg. What to use, does this even hold fish, boat position, different ways to use electronics, marker placement, anything that you guys think will help, Opinions, etc. I've had some luck, on it with Rat l Trap type lures and weightless plastics, I found this place at the end of summer so i haven't had much of a chance to fish it. I have the feeling it will be a good prespawn spot because directly NE of the hump is a shallow sandy flat where spawning usually takes place and to the NW is a rocky point. I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys think. Thanks MW
  6. I Like most basspro products but i'm not sure bout this one. They weigh a ton.
  7. I feel like FLW is the way to go for college fishing, they give you an allowance as well. I'm thinking about tryin to start get my school into it but i don't really know many people at URI who bass fish.
  8. I have the spinnerbait model. I love it. Although i have know idea which he was using for the scrounger there is a bigger thread about these rods back a little ways.
  9. while driving to URI everyday i realize .... college is closer to my house then my high school.... time to go north a the towers or maybe south of charlestown. I dunno i live in a box. Get me outtttttt.
  10. ya but its a Super paddle tail shad
  11. I gotta get outta here rhody is bummin me out
  12. I dunno about you guys but im ready for some cold weather and some hard water. Hopefully we actually get some cold weather this winter, i need a break from fishing. Has anyone been up north (Vermont, Maine New Hampshire) for some skiing yet, i know Mt. snow opened a few weeks ago. Some a you Northerners let me know how the weather is lookin up there, im itchin to snowboard. Any of you RI guys if you play hockey your welcome to join for the annual yawgoo pond, pond hockey T.... If it ever gets cold. Let it snow.
  13. there we go those are some nice fish, where have you guys been gettin em? I've been havin some luck on the northwest side around those big boulders.
  14. Has anyone fished Indian Lake lately, I've been out there a few times recently. Mostly Afternoons after class, I've caught a few good ones on jerkbaits but thats about it. Anybody been out there lately or got any ideas? let me know.
  15. has anyone seen or tried the new bps swimbaits with the bristle fins and tail?
  16. kinda typed that fast sorry about the mistakes.
  17. For me its all about taking my time, recently with the colder weather i've been throwing tubs on 1/8-1/4 jig heads. After i cast i pull about a foot or so of like off the reel and flip the bail by hand. for me this works and i don't get any tangles it also helps to slow down your fishing when its cold and your working a finesse rig. This is with 6lb bp xps flouro, i don't use any conditioner, maybe that is something you could look into, some people swear by it. What brand and lb flouro are you using?
  18. i have the 8' flippin stick. I have nothing but good things to stay about it. It is strong and i have total control of the fish. the only negative i have found with these rods is the placement of the hook holder... my line tends to get stuck around it every so often.. but that is nothing major and i would recommend this rod to anyone
  19. i have an orginal carrot stick 7'3 mh with a 7:1 pro qualifier. its a real nice combo, light but has enough power to rip a fish out of pretty much anywhere. I deffinetly think its a good rod although i think its a little over priced. i just got a new skeet reese rod and honestly it comes close you should look into those. but as for carrot stix i think its a matter of personal opinion.
  20. I bought the spinnerbait/worm rod about two weeks ago. Since then i've used it several times, i have it paired with a pro qualifier. The two fit together nicely. imo it felt better than the mojo but the thing is its just so soft the rod bends so much it almost makes a better crankbait rod than spinnerbait. So far its best use is 1/4 tubes. Overall its a light rod comfortable and cheap. I want to buy the pitching/flippin model to compare. Theres def. better rods out there but i recommend this rod. cant beat it for the price
  21. If you could spend a summer on one major body of water, to perfect your skills, understand big bodies of water and just over all better yourself as an angler what body of water would it be? Any major resevoir, lake or river system in the U.S.
  22. hi guys i go to the University of Rhode Island and am currently majoring in environmental horticulture and turfgrass management and planning to eventually become a super int. at a golf course. After working at a private course for two years im starting to see how stressful this job can be as well as time consuming. I've been thinking about switching my major to fisheries but im worried that the jobs out there are limited. If anyone out there has any ideas on what i should do or any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. -Mike
  23. i think i brought this up earlier but is there any URI guys on here? let me know- Mike
