  1. Definitely some nice looking jigs. Keep it up
  2. No need to modify, they will work fine. The 38109 hooks have spring in them and they will fit fine unless you go too big. Let me know what size hook you want to put in what cavity and I will check fit for you.
  3. For me any lightweight jig and a Paca Chunk. Jig color blk/blu, desert sand, brown/crayfish, and grn pumpkin. Chunk color all of them except, pink and white.
  4. I will tell you from my personal experience, that I have had better luck with slower fall jigs than throwing a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jig. My personal preferance is a Snootie and a Poison Tail jig. I rarely throw any jig over 3/8 oz. All my jigs are 1/8 oz up to 5/16 oz and this covers water up to 10 feet for me. I strongly believe that these jigs get bit more than others. This is just my personal opinion. I have been making jigs for 8 years, and I can throw any one of them but I don't becuase I catch more fish with the small profile jigs mentioned. With that said, the Snootie jig I throw was crafted after the Strike King bitsy bug. I used to throw the bitsy bug, but the quality was poor. So I modified the Snootie to take it's place. Now from my scenario, up until 3 years ago, I never threw a jig of any kind I was a crankbait guy, all day long rain or shine. Then one day a guide I new told me that I was missing the bite. He and I fished side by side with my cranks and his jigs and he just kicked my a$$. He taught me jig fishing with lightweight jigs and I never looked back. I literally catch more bass not necessarily bigger fish than I have in the past. I can honestly say that I've doubled my bass catching going to a lightweight jig. So yes going lighter makes a difference in my opinion. Nothing like a jig and a trailer.
  5. I only know of two hooks. The Mustad 38109 a 45 degree flat eye hook and it will fit in every Do-It mold that accepts a flat eye hook. The other hook is a Trokar TK815. This hook is thicker than most and may not fit in the Do-It molds unless you modify the molds. Now the Trokar was designed this year to fit a special mold that Do-It made for this purpose. This special mold is a Do-It Football model #FBS-5-ATK. What mold do you have?
  6. Keith, Nice paint job on those jigs. I especially like the orange on the belly of the first one.
  7. Tbone, Just out of curiosity where is your first tourney. I notice you are in the Chicagoland area. PM me as I don't want to hijack this thread.
  8. Quillback, I agree with you 100%. I throw a jig 90% of the time and I have had many 20-30 fish days in the Chicagoland area. I mainly fish weed edges and docks and when that bite is on which is most of the time in summer, double digit days are very often. As far as Rage Chunks and Paca Chunks, my first choice Paca Chunks for the cost savings, however they both work phenominally. There is not a better jig and plastic combination in my eyes.
  9. I would like to know the process as I have a lot of plastics like craws to melt. If you are willing to share the process please PM me.
  10. I do something similar to what Jig Man does. I take regular long nose pliers. Grab the tag end and bend it over into a loop. Now I take the tag end and make sure I overbend it so it sticks past the existing wire by an 1/8". At this point I take that overbent tag end and bend it back into the wire so the tension is held up against the original wire. This will avoid any gaps in the two wires touching, thus keeping the ball bearing swivel from ever falling out.
  11. tbone, You can get your copper wire at Hobby Lobby, Jo Anne's or Michaels. It's in the craft section by the beading material. It comes in smaller spools and its around $2-$3 per roll. You can buy many colors, from red, green to copper. I use 22 Ga (.024) diameter thickness and use 2 or 3 wraps. You could go a little heavier however the heavier you go the harder it will be to twist and conceal.
  12. Tyler, What this means is this. You can not buy any leass than 10 tabs per pack. One jig uses roughly two tabs. One tab has 22 strands, so if you put on two tabs ( which is pretty common), you will have a jig with 44 strands of skirting material. So one package of 10 tabs is enough for 5 jigs and this will cost you $2.50 for a pack of 10 tabs. That is 25 cents for each tab.
  13. Hey Tyler, I used to fish Lake Michigan,. IL side and also the IL river. Fished a lot of northern lakes in IL including "The Chain". Anyway depends on where you are mainly fishing, the most luck I had on the rivers, is blk/red, blk/blu. grn pumpkin. Skirts you can buy from fishingskirt.com. Jigs, any swim jig will suffice as you can use them for pitching, swimming and bouncing on the bottom. If you are going to fish in the rocks for smallies, use a football head. Trailer I would use Netbait chunks or Rage tails. The colors are numerous. If you want to talk local fishing PM me I can give you some good tips on local waters, that is until the ice melts.
  14. I sometimes use (2) tabs, and that would be a full skirt for me on spinnerbaits but many times I go thinner. However on jigs I use 22 strands of a slilicote round skirt with 1/8 to 1/4 oz jigs and a 15 strand weedguard. Much better action for sure with less strands. However that is a personal choice. I don't know of many guys throwing 1/8 oz bass jigs either and I like my skirting on my jigs to be thin
  15. I have tutorials on how to start everything if you would like, and I will help you get started. It is really easy. PM me your e-mail.

    Jig Molds

Yes it is. If you click on tholmes's link, that is the place I am referring to.
  17. Nice color choices :thumbsup4:
  18. It is phenominal fishing. Many times 20-30 fish days, especially Geneva and Delavan. I've never fished the Mississippi River, however I have fished the WI River for walleye and sauger below and above the dam. Another good body of water where you can usually get big numbers of fish and very often some sturgeon.

    Jig Molds

Best prices for molds is Zeiner's in Kansas City. Call them up and speak to Jim Zeiner, he has beaten everybody's price on the web that I know of. Best flippin jig for me is the Snootie jig with an Owner deep throat hook. Never lost a fish on that hook or jig.
  20. I belong to two bass clubs and fish a couple local tourney circuits up at Madison Chain, Big Green Lake, Lake Geneva, Lake Delavan and a whole bunch of smaller S.E Wisconsin Lakes. Some great fisheries in the southern end of Wisconsin.
  21. Where abouts in WIsconsin? I fish a lot of South East WI lakes.
  22. This is a personal choice, but I use the same jig for swimming my bait either on the bottom or ticking weeds as well as bouncing it on the bottom. All of my jigs are no heavier than 1/4 oz. I use this jig in 10 f.o.w.or less and I always use a Paca chunk trailer. Colors are blk/blu, green pumkin/sand and brown.
  23. Definitely a rubber coated net will end your frustration.
  24. I powder paint all of my weights. It's a personal choice.
  25. You are absolutely correct. It is all about how a person fishes and what he has confidence in. Just because I fish it doesn't mean it will work for everyone.
