  1. I totally agree with you. I tried them several times in different sizes and found them cheap and inferior in skirt, quality and hook point. I went to a similar almost identical alternative and am very happy. As far as trailers go, I use black/blue, brown and green pumpkin jig heads, and have never had any issues catching fish with all kind of different colored rage tail or paca chunks trailers. They all work
  2. I have (2) Wagner digitals for 5 years and still use my first one, second one is a back-up. The multiple heat lets you do multiple colors without burning the paint. I would not do without mine. I would stay away from Menards tool shop brand, bought two of them to try out. One shorted out as soon as I plugged it in, the other went out after 2 days. Wagner also private labels if you can find them. If you want something basic, then deifintely a high, med low heat setting. As far as toaster ovens go. Buy the biggest you can afford. I have an old B&D spacemaker oven that is serving me well.
  3. So I was going to pick some up this weekend. Out of the three scents, is there one better than the other? If not what would be your first scent choice and why? Just looking for some good solid info. I would hate to buy all three scents and then find out that they all don't work as well as let's say the original if that would be the concensus
  4. That's very interesting.I fish mostly WI lakes, I will have to try that. Thanks
  5. Comfortably Numb, Ok, so if I may ask, have you or anyone else used this color on trailer craws like the Paca chunk or Ragetail style plastic baits. If so does this color work well on that also?
  6. That's funny because I was going to BPS on Saturday at the Gurnee store to get some of these Netbait Dirt Dogs and try them this year. PM me your full name so I can ask for you when I'm there.
  7. Thanks, Do you mainly fish at night on both of these lakes? If so would you mind sharing some spots off line. If not no problem.
  8. That's good to know. I've seen some pigs in Delavan especially in Spring. What is the current state record in Wisconsin? BTW: What does " " stand for?
  9. Thanks for the tip. BTW you and I both fish the same lakes religiously. Delavan and Geneva top notch!
  10. Thanks, I'll have to try to find some and use them this summer.
  11. I was just curious. I have heard of the electric blue as well and tequila, however never fished them. It's good to know that these colors work so well. I would have never thought that. Pics didn't come through on your second post above mine.
  12. Yes, Jigman it is an industial powder. I spoke to a powder manufacturer several years ago, that private labeled their powder for Harbor Freight. I don't remember who it was, but I want to say that it was IVC that made the powder, however don't quote me. I have never used Harbor freight powder paint, so I can not comment on its quality. However I only use Pro-tec powder for colors I can not find, or if someone requests a certain color. For those who want to know, all my powder paint is industrial powder paint. The industrial powder is just as good as Pro-tec, and a lot cheaper in cost. To name a few, I have used, Dupont, IVC, Columbia Coatings, Sherwin Williams, Tiger Drylac, and all of these powder are no different in quality than Pro-tec. Some are a little heavier than Pro-tec, but chip resistancy and pencil hardness are just as good if not better. So save yourself some money and look around for less expensive powder. If you need help PM me and I will give you more sources.
  13. Pretty cool looking. Have you ever caught anything on that bright of a blue?
  14. Nice looking jigs. Are those Owner #5304 hooks? It looks like them, but yours seem rounded off. Nice umbrella rig as well.
  15. Hang in there, everything gets easier the more you do it. It all comes down to spending a lot of time practicing painting. Patience is a virtue and you will need plenty of that as well.
  16. Don, All said and done, it goes back to you as a builder and wanting to take the initiative to want to learn. Catch some big ones on it. One last thing don't blame me if you get too addicted to making jigs. LOL.Finally if you ever need help you know where you can find me
  17. I put suspend dots on my crank baits or jerk baits to get them down deeper. Does not affect lure action at all if centered properly.
  18. x2, I use them mainly in Spring and Fall when the water is colder and getting colder. As stated excellent tight wobble. Definitely not a jerk bait. I use the Husky Jerk for that. Another excellent bait from Rapala.
  19. Good looking jig Don, I'd throw it.
  20. Very nice, hope you catch some big ones with those.
  21. Matt, I am looking in their catalog and they have a whole buch of wire forms all the way up to 2oz heads. In their catalog, it is on page 107 in the 2013 catalog. I also just went on their website, and if you type in wire and then look for looped wireforms, a picture of the looped wireform comes up, click on the arrow next to the picture where it says select. Then a whole pull down menu pops out with all the sizes . They are there.
  22. You can bake them a year later if you want. That is not a problem. However if you are going to wait a year, I would put them in a plastic bag so they don't get dusty and dirty. Just some info for you if you don't have the time.
  23. They are easily available the last time I checked. Go to Barlow's, Jann's Netcraft, or Lure parts on line and look for closed loop spinnerbait wire forms. They will all have different lengths on the arm and on the herad along with different wire diameters. If you can't find them. I'll look into it for you. But I do know that they are available.
  24. There you go lookin' good. Gotta love those Owner 5304's.
  25. Guys, I never try to dissuade anyone from doing what they want. Maybe your hobby will grow like mine did into a hobby/business. I started out making my own jigs because 9 years ago the jigs in the stores wre garbage. The paint came off, hooks were poor and they just didn't last. At that time, I was fishing walleye in the rivers and going through a lot of jigs. Fast forward 9 years and you have some pretty impressive jigs now in the stores. Many jigs have good hooks and there paint is far superior than of years past. The nice thing about making your own jigs is you can customize it to what you want. If you want a 2/0 hook instead of a 3/0 or you want a Gami instead of an Eagle Claw, well than you just go and make those jigs. If it is something you really want to do, start out slow and ask a lot of questions.
