  1. Hey Thanks for the reply. I'm just the next state over from you. Another couple of months and we'll have open water again
  2. Hey Guys, thanks for all the replies. I want to try this technique out this summer.
  3. What type of plastics do you guys use for this system? Is the hook point exposed, texposed or skinned?
  4. Yes the paint does build up on them. I use the Teflon pins once, then when I take them out of all the painted jigs, I just bend them a little and the paint cracks off. This is the easiest way to paint jigs. Also you can use the Teflon pins to pour. If you are not using them to pour you are doing yourself a disservice. They are so much better than the metal pins. No more fighting with the pins and stabbing yourself.
  5. PM sent.
  6. I got the same color from fishingskirts.com and yes it is $2/10 tabs like 00 mod stated. Unfortunately you will have to pay shipping as well.
  7. Yes it can be re-melted.
  8. Hey Smalljaw67, Great write up and thanks for all the good info.
  9. I have not seen them in my hands or on a jig yet, but I'm going to say it's cosmetic. They do look nice, and maybe several strands would change the looks of a regular silicone skirt..
  10. BassAssassins14 Not to be a P.I.T.A, and reiterate safety again, but I had my 17 year old nephew help me last summer for a couple of days. In working with him he wanted everything done right away and my biggest concern was that he was in too much of a hurry. It made me nervous watching him pour, as he didn't seem to have a care in the world. I'm not saying that you are like that and you won't be careful. But since there will be no one there to mentor and teach you I'm just a little concerned. Also if and when you pour, put up a small sign next to your workstation, letting everyone know that the pot is on and it is hot. Leave this sign on before, during and after you are done pouring to make sure the pot cools down enough. You don't want anyone grabbing a hot pot when you are not there, or if you step away for a minute. Accidents can happen to anyone. I have been burned by lead, nothing serious, however we are all repeating this just so you understand that lead is really hot and you don't want to get burned. Enough said. I don't want to sound like your dad. LOL
  11. There is too much info to post on this subject. Go to tackleunderground and read all the safety precautions on pouring lead in the wire bait section. My biggest concern for you depending how old you are is getting burned versus lead poisoning. Here are some pointers: #1. Don't smoke, eat or drink when you are pouring lead #2. Pour in a well ventilated area. #3 Do not pour in the house, preferably in the garage #4 Make sure you wear, eye protection, face shield, long sleeve shirt, long pants, shoes and socks, even in summer time #5 Pay attention to what you are doing and make sure you have no distraction when you are pouring ( ie kids and pets running around) #6 When you are done pouring, wash your hands several times in cold water. Above all lead is very hot, don't get burned, because if you do it is serious. Your dad has every right to be concerned for your safety, if that is you in your avatar, you seem like a young guy, stay safe and take every precaution, so your dad can see that you are responsible. We were all young once and wanted to do things. I am not concerned for you about lead poisoning as much as getting burned, as younger people have a tendency to want to hurry and get things finished so they can do other things. Take your time and think things through thoroughly. Plan everything you are going to do, so you don't make any serious mistakes. If you have any questions ask first to get all the facts before you attempt this. If you want you can PM me or I can call you to help you with any questions. There are many other things that will come along the way but I stress safety as #1.
  12. x2 Pouring lead is serious business. This is the best advice I would give as well. Also make sure you don't have any distractions like, pets or little children running around. Stayed focused on what you are doing, and set aside time to do it. Do not rush to get things done. This is where accidents happen. The rest is all experience. Mainly stay safe and think of everything you do before you do it.
  13. Top Notch ever since they were bought out a year or so ago.
  14. Some guys do. I would advise against it. Also you get a better paint job without the weedguard.in the jig. This is JMO.
  15. I fish from shore when I put my boat away in November till ice up, and then again when the ice starts to melt in Spring until open water. I have never had success with top water. The fish at this point are very sluggish and will not chase bait. You can try slowly dragging a rattle trap, and I mean really slow, till the point of hardly moving the bait, but I found this technique works better in Spring when the water is warming as the days go on. Your best bet if you have to fish would be to throw out a bobber with a live shiner or golden roach on it if you are looking for northern pike. All other species of fish now want a slow to no presentation. You see I ice fished for years and use to watch the fish come up to the bait with a camera. Many times they would strike on a still line where there is no movement, and the bait is doing all the action. This is just my opinion.
  16. I had a power drive on my other boat, and I also had to replace my pedal. When I sold my boat I had already replaced the pedal 4 times. I would never buy another power drive.. Mark, Try to save up for a Terrova. That motor will work really well on your boat. If you ever get one, you will wonder why you didn't change earlier. I love my Terrova. I put I-pilot on there and I rarely use my pedal, except in heavy winds.
  17. 1989 Bass Tracker Magna 17 fish and ski. With a 90 h.p. Merc and a 9.9 kicker. Had that boat for 17 years. The guy who bought it from me still has it.
  18. Those are covers to keep the grease from spraying all over your trailer and keep all the dirt from going onto the grease. I believe those are all bearing buddy covers, as I had them on my Tracker boat. Yes replace them and put them back on, they are supposed to be on the bearing hub.
  19. Live and learn I have been down this road with vices as well. I now have a vice like Smalljaw and Jig Man you can't get a better vice for the money. I had a BPS vice when I first started tying, I quickly grew out of it because it really was useless for tying with thread. I tie my flat rubber skirt tabs on my jigs in my hand. I don't use a vice for that.
  20. I sure do like the one in your hand. That is a sharp looking jig.
  21. I like the second ones better as well.
  22. I personally like a little blue, yellow, orange and a tad of purple surrounded by watermelon green. Try to keep the light colors on the bottom of your jig if possible. Most bluegill are very colorful. Depends on what you have in your lakes. Anyway the jig looks really nice and will catch fish. No really wrong or right way, just depends on what you like.
  23. You link doesn't work, but I looked up the link. It looks like to me that you get (10) tabs not skirts. You will need 2-3 tabs per skirt , also you will need rubber collars or wire to tie them on your jigs. Also there are 22 strands per tab. You have a PM from me.
  24. blk/blu jig with trailer green pumpkin jig with trailer rootbeer/orange jig with trailer rattle trap husky jerk or crankbait
